Nothing happened so I thought "Hmmm... it must not be turned on". So [wait for it] I grabbed hold of the wire to test it and ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT - got the shock shicked out of me. :-)

Tim the best time to water is at night or at sunset or early morning. If you water during the day when it's hot out. You can lose up to 50% of your water to evaperation.

Maybe mount the fencer closer to the top the the post. Then place a 5 gallon bucket over the top of it to keep it dry.

a tip for improving an earth for electric fences is dilute agricultural salt in hot water and pour around the earth peg. an earth peg needs a good mineral content soil and the salt does the job I had to put 7- 4 foot pegs in the ground but it wasn't till I put the salt round that the earth peg worked, hope this helps

To save your wire from year to year make a spool (your design, what ever works for you) with an axel that will fit a battery powered drill chuck. Insert the axel in the drill and connect the end of the wire to the spool. Turn the drill on low speed and use your free hand to guide the wire onto the spool like a fishing reel. In the spring just hold the spool in your hand as you unreel the wire around your garden. Warning!! remember to wear a good pair of gloves. I learned the hard way, LOL.

Hoss drip irrigation. Go to a welding shop and ask them to save a large mig wire spool, I use them to wind up Christmas lights

Howdy Christy and Tim !!!! Great stuff !!! I have used a lot of electric fence in the past !! I always used a wooden stick about 18 inches long , according to the amount of wire going on it , to roll wire on. Simple but works good. Solar fences work good too. To test my fence I stick a metal rod in the ground close to the wire. Then take a screw driver to short fence. Usually you can see or hear the arc jump from ground to fence power ! Tim I can’t get corn to grow here in my garden in Louisiana. Always a low yield. Tried a lot of different methods with no drastic improvement. The video of the sweet corn patch at your family farm made my mouth water.

You can use a old tire rim to wind up the wire or take a 1x6 an cut a v in each end to wind up the wire.

Critter Control, I love electric fences, put cans from sardines, cat food ect on the wire, to zap the nose and tongues especially of bears. Always wanted to super-charge an electric fence with the picturetube transformer from an old tv. My house is on an animal path, house cats, deer, bears, raccoons, ground hogs, rabbits, squirrels, foxes and coyotes, not to forget birds of every variety. They set of the outdoor security lights all night. Last week I put together a Motion Camera with InfraRed Illuminators. Put it in one of those 'Bobble Head Owls" for gardeners or lawn ornaments. The Owl has been on my porch over a year with no effect, moving ir numerous times. The night I turned on the camera with the IR illuminators, all animal traffic stopped. Not one animal came into my yard. The outdoor security lights stayed dark all night. not one animal was seen in the IR camera file on continuous record. They did not come in the daytime either. I turned the IR camera off and waited, it took 4 days before the first rabbit returned. then another day for the deer to appear, still have not seen the fox or coyote, they are sly anyway. If you have some patients, a little skill and handle frustration it is really easy to make for about 70-80 usd in parts, using a RaspberryPi computer, a camera module, an Owl of course. If you have the power for the electric fence, plug in there. I am now putting them in little Bird Houses, with battery pack and solar charging. You can have more than one camera on tiled on the monitor screen, all being recorded as you like, full time or only when the motion is detected, email or text alerts to notify you too. it is quite a little package. and it works for Critter Control as well as home security too.

We use an old garden for hose real for the wire. Our garden is about 1/4 acre and 4 strands of wire. You can also put a 5 gallon bucket over your charger

Need to try using an extension cord winder or roller for the wire and we always used a 5 gallon bucket to cover the energizer. That kept it from getting hot.

On our ranch in Texas we have large metal spools that we roll the wire up on and it’s very simple to reuse. I think you could probably use something similar to an old car rim as a spool for wire storage. I’m definitely getting some of those tpost insulators, they look so simple to use!

When you take the wire down after you fence is no longer needed you can wrap it around a bucket or something round. Ive done it around a big empty oil drum before. Old farmer trick.

Try using a extension cord reel or wrap for the fence. My local big Wally store has them for $1.00. They work great for strings too. Have heard of a ground rod driver? They make short work for driving in ground rods. Love your channel. Thanks for posting

That was funny Tim i have a old electric fencer that my dad had you would not wont to touch it like that you should use your back of the hand it has put me on the ground and my uncle was in the wood and took a pee and did not see the wire and the next thing he was seeing was stars i have seen it burn a 3" pice of wood and half ! but you did a great job hope it keeps them out of your corn mine is looking like yours we got rain to day so i dont have to water have a great week hope Katriel is having fun on here trip if she got to go ! and has a safe trip home ! Instead of using a sprinkler to water your garden (which spreads the water over the plants as well as the dirt in the rows), try installing a soaker hose along side the corn when you plant it. that way the water gets to the roots and is not wasted watering areas where there are no plants. We use soaker hoses with our cucumbers and beans and it does a nice job watering in 15-30 minutes depending on water pressure, soil conditions, and desired saturation level. Burying the hose slightly places the water down by the plant roots and keeps most the water off the surface of the soil where it can evaporate and not benefit the plants.

I used to use electric fence. We have to deal with raccoons and also a lot of deer. That is until I got motion activated sprinklers. I was skeptical at first, but let me tell you so far they have worked fantastic. Easy set up ( much easier than electric) and no pest problems. Also easier to perform garden duties without the fence in the way, trying to jump over it. Check them out if you haven’t... orbit yard enforcer is what I have.

I use a long blade of grass hold flat between fingers and lay on wire and slide towards wire closer you get to wire harder it shocks .

The corn I planted this year didn’t do much was to hot. I’ve wrapped that kinda wire around a short piece of pipe about 2” in diameter or 1-1/2” and tried to stay with the wraps within a 4” section so it didn’t get to bulky

Rap the wire around a. 2 by 4. Or what my Dad did use a 5 galen pail. Then put your posts in pail. Water in evening. Less sun. It gives the plant time to obsorb the Water.

When I was a kid I used to help our neighbors with their garden and they would use dried Deers blood to put around the garden To keep the deer and critters away they never really had any problems with that so I guess it did work

Enjoyed the video Christy & Tim. Y'all need some of our whitetail deer. On any given day we'll see 20 to 25 deer. We have a 10 strand high tensile wife fence around most of our whole yard that is over ten feet high to keep those pesky rascals out. Between the fence and Our dog Bella it works pretty good. I roll my wire back up on the spool every year. There are spoolers, but I just shove a rod through the spool and a long bolt on the spool and just roll it up. I run a solar unit, but have to replace the battery every year or so. Maybe I should look into an AC unit.

Like #104, to save the wire look at the extension cord reels at your hardware/garden centers, the little Orange ones, for your long pulls the 25' one, shortest that I know of, would do very well. unless you want to just make your own, I used a 1"x4" notched the ends so you have some left on the outer sides and wrap the wire in the notch, you can also cut a milk jug on the corners (4 of them) leaving the bottom and top intact wrapping the wire around it, easy to think of things once you see someone make something out of nothing, lol, nice video, TY, Later Tater, yep it was a bit Corny, lol

Ken, I go to Lowes, We only have a Lowes, I buy a roll of 6 mil Black Plastic 20x100 , I unroll and unfold the plastic, It usually takes 3 rolls for me, I place this plastic on my garden and anchor it down with 3" concrete cap blocks. After it's placed on the garden and pulled tight at each fold in the plactic is a row, We get 7 ,100' rows in a roll. The first year using this we cut a hole about the size of a coffee cup and space it accordingly to how we would normally plant, Using the Black plastic heats the ground during the day which makes plants grow more, At night the ground sweats under the plastic giving moisture, Also since the ground is covered by the plastic the only weeds that come up is around the plants it's easier to weed them, We plant Beans, Corn, Cucumbers,Tomato's Squash, Pepper's in our plastic, and the best part, No Hoeing

It seems like a lot of work But it makes it better, I bought the cap blocks years ago that gets kind of expensive, The 20 x 100 roll of black plastic is around $100, But if you use care removing it each year you can get 5 to 6 years out of one roll, , At the end of the season I use lopping shears and cut the Corn Fotter and then just pull up the other dried up plants, then sweep off the plastic, Then fold it up and store it in the shed til the next year. Also Mine Roof Bolts make great tomato stakes, or Rebar 1/2 round They never rot like wood does

Our pool winter cover used to have a plastic coated steel cable that was always a pain to wind. What worked best was using an old coffee can. We would duct tape the start of the wire to side of the can, roll up the cable and at the end run another loop of tape over the top and bottom of the can. Worked very well and kept everything nice and tidy.
