I listened to this song so many nights over a 2 year period while my son was undergoing chemo for very aggressive cancer. I cried to it, was in agony as I listened to it, let it pray words when I hadn't any. I don't know if I was thankful for the song, but when I hear it now I feel like it helped my soul reach out to God when I had grief so deep that it couldn't be silent. Gratitude overshadows my life every moment because God spared my son. Still I had to accept that he was God's first and, as Hannah said of Samuel, was loaned to me. I think sometimes music reaches and gives a sense of meaning to things too big for words.

I discovered Fernando Ortega in 2020 when my wife was in the hospital for heart surgery and I wasn't able to visit her because of the cruel lockdown. I didn't know if she would live or die. I have recently had my entire cervical spine fused and have other health problems as well. I am 83, and my husband is 85. He has terminal cancer, and I am his caretaker. This is the most challenging times of my long life. Listening to hymns in the evenings calm my soul, and I especially love this one. Although it's not actually a hymn, I love The Breaking of the Dawn because it has special meaning when my mother was dying in 2001. His music is a blessing to many.

My husband left for glory at 12:15 this morning. He had celebrated his 87th birthday on June 25th, and we celebrated our 65th anniversary on June 27th.
