thank you so much for this idea!! i used it as a base for my corgi and then added gails and fins, so it's a fish hat. used 6mm yarn with 6,5 mm hook, so i had to readjust, but very clear explanation! can't wait to do something more for her, she's completely adorable haha

I decided a while back to make a hat for my dog because for some reason, one of the only things that seems to calm her down is putting random objects on her head. My other dog got jelous of me making one just for her about halfway through so I ended up making two. Most tutorials I found weren't shaped right for them, hurt their ears or had other problems, but this is such an easy tutorial to follow along and they both love it. Made them look like a chicken and pig, so cute!

Fiona, follow this but don't put the ear holes in. Do the neck the head with no holes. The one on the doll picture is the same design on Muttley without the ear holes.

Hi Alison! Sharon from Toronto here. LOVE your little Balaclava tutorial. I am going to make one for my little Puffin Lola (pug/brussels griffon mix). She is going to be a Baby Yoda for our costume at Woofstock here in Toronto in September (that is if this Covid 19 mess is over) we can only hope. I have been looking for a hood type hat with ear holes and yours is the best one I have seen so I will add Yoda ears to it. I was just wondering what size of crochet hook you are using for the Caron wool. I am so glad I found your channel. Stay healthy and safe.

Glad to help, just remember to keep putting it on her head as you work it so you can get the ear holes in the right place for her. I think it was a 4.5mm to keep the stitch small. you can use a size 5mm I don't know what that converts to in Canada.

Hi. How do you stitch the top together? I’m a beginner so I don’t know all the types of stitches that well yet
@andykenny91012 жыл бұрын
you could use your crochet hook (maybe a smaller one than you used for the rest) and do slip stitches into each single crochet on both sides, or you could use a sewing needle and just stitch the two sides together. I believe there are other videos on here that at least I find a bit clearer to follow but it didn't have ear holes so that's why I used this vid. good luck & enjoy!

Thank you!! I’ll try that

Hi Alison. I just came across this video. I made a sweater for my chihuahua puppy. He has a very small head and pointed ears. I used a 4 weight yarn and a size G hook. ( 4.25) will this hook make the hat a lot smaller? Thanks for this fantastic video, and your help.

Hiya! Great to hear a Scots voice! Recently learning crochet. Following exact measurements for my lurcher Eloi. (Bedlington X deerhound). Apart from missing a post during my first round of front post bk post which I'm aware of and cringing about (lol!) - have u any tips on tension as my work has gotten quite loose? I'm only on the 3rd row but am mightily impressed. It doesn't REALLY matter much as his lurcher neck grows in size as it joins his neck so I could work in a longer neck onto his hat in theory anyway 🤭 big hello and thankyou from Dingwall! ✌️♥️💪👏🏴

Use a smaller hook this is the best way to fix loos crochet my sister sandra always has to use a full size smaller hook than me even if we use the same yarm If I am using a 5.5 she has to use a 4.5 if you know what I mean. If you try that 1 would add say 3 more stitches and maybe do 3 extra rows to keep the hat the correct size. because a smaller hook will also give you a slightly smaller hat but just slightly smaller.

I would like to make a Balaclava for my Chihuahuas. Or maybe just a Snood. I won't need ear holes. I want their ears covered.
@shaniceleader2539 Жыл бұрын
That won’t hurt their ears being pushed down? I also have a Chihuahua but I was just going to put the ear holes much higher/closer together on the top

@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel5 жыл бұрын
Yes double knit and size 4,5mm this way it's nice and thick using double crochet (single crochet in USA) for the main body but you can do treble crochet if you want.

Alison I’ve had double fun watching this tutorial! Firstly, Muttley looks fabulous, he’s such a good model for the hat! Secondly I’ve used the CC captions for the first time and your gorgeous Scottish accent has completely flummoxed it! Every time you say the word “six” it shows “sex”!!!!! If you want a good laugh I suggest you turn on the CC captions and settle back with a cuppa!

just a thought but, the reason I want a hat for my dog when its cold is her ears are thin and FREEZE...I don't want a hat to have holes for the ears to stick out. Just like human hats for winter, they need to protect the ear.

follow the pattern but dont do the hole slots just carry on until you think its big enough.

Just hang a wee pom pom on it. I didn't sew mine into a point but a few people have and added a pom pom or unpick it and squish the end that goes into a point down a bit. I like the pom pom idea better though.
