Yes, absolutely, you can use any yarn and any size hook... 3 strands of ww would make quick work of crocheting a pillow (cushion).... (I never know what to call them.)

I don't remember, but looking at the photo, it looks like I worked around 38 rows.

With every slip stitch at the end, I seem to be decreasing the total number of stitches. I started with 28 and a few rows later I now only have 24, am I missing something?

Hmmm.... count each stitch across the row as you work. The slip stitch should be worked in the slip stitch of the previous row, and it's tight, so it doesn't show up too well.

If you are seeing a decrease in the rows, then the most common problem is that you are not crocheting in the turning chain at the end of the rows. (Try counting the stitches as you crochet across the row, then you will be able to correct the error immediately.) I hope that helps! Kind regards, Emi

Are all the rows the same amount of stitches? It does not make any sense , how can a straight or rectangle piece become round like that? What am I missing???

Yes, all the rows will be the same number. The beginning and end of each row will be slip stitches, so therefore they add little length to the work. And you can also weave yarn through the center on each side, and pull to gather and close up the middle.
