Thank you so very much for the excellent video tutorial! It's so clear and easy to follow and the free pdf pattern is super instructional. By the way our accent is very pleasing to the ear. After successfully making one following the video in teal and yellow milk cotton yarn, which came out so adorable, I am now going to make more with different patterns from the written pattern in thicker yarn. My first grandson is due in January in Northern California, the winter can be bitter cold there. With all the beanies I will make for him, he would be snug and cozy. Thanks to you sweet lady. 🙏 Subscribed!

You're so welcome, Linda! And I really do put some effort into these tutorials because I feel like we're at a disadvantage because we can't interact as we learn. Since you can't ask me a question and get an immediate answer, I'm trying to be proactive! This may be overkill for some so it's really hard to strike a happy medium.
@LGoodwillie
@LGoodwillie 5 жыл бұрын
Margaret Olander Your attention to detail is very much appreciated by me. ❤️ Those that are more advanced can take your pattern and run with it. From the point of view of a beginner I cannot tell you how much this helps. I’m going to explain something that may be taken as not nice to say (I hope not) but......I’m almost finished making a cardigan that is tutorial and free pattern on line. It was easy enough because the stitches are only hdc & dc. I have invested a lot of time and yarn on this project but cannot finish it because the sleeves are absolutely not coming out right no matter what I do. I have taken more sleeves apart than I can count. I have watched the video countless times and checked the pattern for accuracy as many times. I just cannot get it to work so finally after weeks of this I have finally put it away unfinished. I’m telling you this story only because this individual does no close ups of her work in the video, nor does she take us step by step with the sleeves at all. She merely says to look at the pattern and that they (the sleeves) are very easy to do as long as you get the increases right. I am doing the increases right. She gives no stitch count for the rows because even the size she made (which btw is the size I was trying to make) she did not go over that because she only made the cuff of the sleeve on camera. Also there are many questions about the pattern (even those that are answered on the video and if everyone would look at the pattern) however of all the many many questions I reviewed I only saw one answer from her and that did not help me. I only say all of this so that you understand how very much your time and attention to detail is so appreciated. In viewing your video I felt as if I was sitting and relaxing right next to you on your couch and watching you do this. Honestly, you made me feel immediately that I can succeed at this! ❤️ Thank you so much for your time Margaret and for your care that you put into your tutorials. Please never feel that they are over kill ever. ❤️😊

Yes... that happens from time to time. Once upon a time, we only had access to purchased patterns in books and magazines. Those have testers and editors that make sure the pattern is written correctly. We still didn't have access to the designer if we had questions but that's just the way things worked! Now is far better for the most part but there is no master editor out there to regulate the quality of patterns. Nor is there a guarantee you'll receive help just because we have a way to reach a designer! I know I get TONS of questions on those Addi machines and while I try to answer each and every one, it's hard. Can you imagine how difficult it is for those big KZbinrs who have tons of subscribers? I suppose if I ever grew my channel to those proportions I'd have to hire help but you never know what someone's circumstances are. No easy answer!

Hi, first time watcher here and I love this stitch, first time with this too. I've learned a lesson already that when changing colors to make sure you don't pull the v too tight or it is almost impossible to put hook through. But, I am going to push through it and the next row definitely will be doing looser stitches when changing colors. Thank you for a great video.

Agreed! What I was originally taught for the HDC2TOG is too bulky and too tall for HDC.

Well done, as always. You can make a visor using the brim portion and then adding a row of sc around top and bottom edges after joining the two ends together and add a bill using about a third of the center stitches. I love them, and make a new one nearly every summer.

I l ove learning new ways to do old stitches. Sometimes I use a particular way one one project & another way on a different project. Having a large repertoire of tips & techniques is important in any form of art or craft. Your version of the hdc2tog looked great, like it fit right in. I can't wait to try it! Thank you for sharing.

EXACTLY, Nancy! I love how you said that you may vary your technique from project to project. Part of what I love about this hobby is making creative decisions to improve or change a look. The way I was taught to do a HDC2TOG was too tall and bulky to stand in a row of regular HDC.

Fantastic tutorial, thank you. I have always hated doing the row around the brim of the hat, but the way you have explained it has certainly stopped me from being frustrated. I'm British and have never heard of waistcoat being said the way your dictionary told you.
@sheepishlysharing
@sheepishlysharing 5 жыл бұрын
I'm a firm believer that there's no "right or wrong" in crochet. You find what works for you and run with it! That's exactly what I do with that "sc around the brim" thing. And thank you for giving me a British insider's pronunciation of waistcoat!
