Crochet Basket Tutorial - Country Cottage Basket Crochet Pattern

The Country Cottage Basket features amazing texture and fun stripes to create a beautiful and useful crochet basket!
This basket includes 2 side handles, and a sturdy shape. I used 3 colors for mine, but feel free to use as many (or few) colors as you'd like! You Can also adjust the size to be any width and height!
Finished Size: approx. 9.5" x 9.5"
Difficulty: Advanced Beginner

You've answered one of my prayers Ali! And I kept my promise by clicking and watching start to finish! I actually NEED cute baskets to organize things at home, and I will certainly follow this tutorial next week for sure! If you haven't done so already and would consider doing so- I'm also looking to learn how to make SQUARE storage baskets, the same or similar to the ikea sized ones! it seems that you move the increase stitch placement of the round at the beginning and end of the round. Am I right? that must have a better look to the end product.

Hi! (sorry for the late reply) Yes this was something new I tried, starting the increase in different spots each round, it is supposed to give the basket a perfect circle bottom. When you start the increases in the same spot each round, it will make the bottom more of a hexagon shape.

don't be fooled you don't need two strands of bulky yarn to make it stand up or 4 strands of medium or worsted yarn. all these will stand up straight on their own its down to the technique. the only difference is the basket will be different thickness just like the weight categories are thicker and thinner strands from each other.

No one is being fooled. The directions as given will give a sturdy/robust basket. If you use a, let's say, a 4 size worsted weight yarn, the basket will be nowhere near the size or as sturdy.

Definitely not true. I’ve made several baskets and the ones that didn’t use numerous yarns or bulky yarns were floppy and did not hold their shape, regardless of the technique (and I’ve attempted several).

I would definitely be cutting my yarns when I change colors. Those loose strands would get caught on whatever you toss inside the basket. And this is just my opinion, but it looks unprofessional. Sorry. The pattern otherwise is very nice!
