Thank you young lady for your thoughtfulness. It makes me so happy to see some young people actually doing something constructive instead of on those phones😟

just a note to viewers, i used a much smaller gauge of yarn and hook, so I ended up having a chain of 43, and had 42 rows. I just kept doing rows until I thought I was close, then would stretch it to fit my head and obviously added more rows as needed. everyone will be different though. awesome hat by the way. my bestie and I turned ours into unicorn hats, and just made a cute horn that we attached later. thank you for the tutorial!

I can't always watch/listen to a video when I am crocheting, so I like to have a written pattern when I am crocheting. Since it wasn't on your blog, I went ahead and typed it up and I figured, since I went through all the effort, maybe you or someone else could use this too. Also, I corrected some terminology that was incorrect. Feel free to copy and paste it to your blog, but please don't remove my credit if you do. Anyways, here you go, hope it helps someone; Crochet Cat Ear Hat Pattern and video by Veronica Marie Written up by Amber Plebanek ((Written in US/Canadian Terms)) Abbreviations: BEG - Begin/start CH - Chain HDC - Half Double Crochet BLO - Back Loop Only REP - Repeat CONT - Continue RND - Round SC - Single Crochet SL ST - Slip Stitch ST - Stitch ( ) - How many stitches you should have Supplies: Super Bulky Yarn (Size 6 US) OR 4 strands of worsted (Size 4 US) 10.00MM (N15 US) Hook Yarn/Darning Needle Measuring Tape or a ruler Hat: BEG: Ch until you get to about 11” long (count your chain to keep track of how many stitches each row should be. This pattern used 22) This is your foundation chain. ROW 1: Ch 2, then hdc into the 4th ch from the hook. This will be the first two st of the row. Cont until you reach the end. Count to double check you have 22 st, including the ch 2. (22) ROW 2: Turn, ch 2 and hdc into the blo and cont until end. (22) ROWS 3 - 16: Rep row 2 for 14 more rows or until it wraps around your head. (Add as many rows as needed. Remember that half double crochet stitches stretch, so if you want a tighter fit, do less than 16 rows. If you want a looser fit, add one or two rows.) (22) Connecting: Once you are happy with the amount of rows, fold the work in half so that the foundation ch is laying on top of the last row with your hook to the right. Insert your hook into the first st on the foundation ch. We are going to st the first and last rows together using sl st. Sl st all the way to the end. (Count how many st you get, in case you want to add a brim/border) Closing the top: We are now going to sl st into the side of the rows to close the top of the hat. This isn’t an exact science. The stitches wont line up exactly, so you will have to kind of guess where to put stitches. The goal is to make this as straight and flat as we can. If it is wavy, then you have added too many stitches and need to pull some of them out where is it getting wavy. If it getting too scrunched up, then you too few stitches and you need to pull them out and add one or two more where it was bunching up. Go slowly and really watch the stitches and you will be able to tell what is going on. Once happy, cut and tie off the end and sew the ends in. Turn the hat inside out, making sure to really pop out the corners, as they will become the cat ears. Making the Ears: Taking a string of yarn (About 12”) and your darning needle, Starting on the right side about ¼ - ⅓ of the way down from the top, leave about a 1” - 2” long tale and sew diagonally towards the top, about ¼ - ⅓ from the right side. Make sure to leave a decent tale. Rep but start from the top about ¼ - ⅓ from the left side and sew diagonally towards ¼ - ⅓ from the top on the left side, making sure to leave long enough tails. Gently tug on the ends of each string to cinch the top and sides until you are happy with the shape of the ears. If you aren’t liking the way they are coming out, pull the string out completely and start that side over again until you are happy with them. When you are satisfied, using your darning needle, poke the tails of the strings through to the inside of the hat. Flip the hat inside out again and tie the ends of the strings for each ear together to secure the shape of the ears. (Make sure not to tie the strings from opposite ears together.) When secured, trim ends or weave them in to hide them. Flip the hat inside out one last time and adjust the ears. OPTIONAL: (Some suggestions from Amber) You can add a brim or border to the bottom of the hat by sc around the other side of the rows. Remember, this isn’t a set number of st. If you counted your st when closing off the top, you should be able to double that number and get a rough estimate as to how many st you should have. If it’s wavy, you have too many st, if it’s bunchy, you have too few. You can leave it at just that one rnd of sc if you would like. It gives it a nice finished edge. Or you can keep adding rnds and build out a brim. If you use only sc, they don’t stretch like hdc do, and might end up being tighter than you expected. I recommend using hdc into the blo like you did for the hat. It will have the same stretchiness to it and will have horizontal ribbing instead of vertical. If you are unfamiliar with working in rounds, search youtube, there are plenty of people who explain how to do it. Make your brim as long as you wish. For a warmer hat, sew on a fleece liner. A super cute pattern or solid could really accent your yarn and keep your noggin nice and toasty. Look up joyofmotioncrochet-dot-com for a tutorial of how to sew a lining into your hat.

Just finished my hat. It was really quick and fun to make! Took me about 2 hours working off and on. Tutorial was easy to follow. I should have made the hat a shorter than 11 inches as I feel it would have been more flattering on me with a smaller brim, but that's all personal preference. Because it's such an easy hat, I can remake it to my liking this time!
