This video demonstrates how to do a double crochet cluster stitch. There are 3 different ways shown here.
I use American terminology. In UK terms, the double crochet is called treble crochet.

I commented on your Bobble stitch video about a cluster stitch, using instructions in a pattern from 1978. It makes clusters close & go into a sc next to the cluster, creating a big bobble or popcorn look that puffs out on one side only. Like your bobble, you y/o but pull thru as if about to make a dc, hold until you do 5 dcs halfway, then y/o and pull thru all 6 sts on the hook. When you sc in the next stitch, you have a nice big bobble. Not the same as your cluster here, but it's a nice look.

Thanks Beth for showing us. I knew about the first one but not the other way. Finished my granny squire lap blanket for Hospice. It was fun and now I am doing another one but a different pattern. Loving it. Also making a head band with 2 colors tunesian crochet like you showed us. Thanks for all your tutorials.Happy crocheting.

Thank you so much for explaining this! I've been stuck on a patterns that says, "Working over the ch 3 from the previous row, work 3 dc sts into the center ch of the skipped ch section of the starting chain directly below..." and now I understand.

Thank you Beth, you are a doll :D I took the bull by the horns this morning & I think I figured out the pattern. There was a ch3 in the middle of the 2 dc cluster & I could not find a pattern anywhere that had those extra chains. Also, silly me...I wasn't suppose to crochet into the fpdc itself, duh! I'm gonna check that off as a "newbie" mistake. I tend to OVER think things :p Have a Great week-end! Patrice

You make what is in the ( ) all in the same stitch. It's similar to the corner of a granny square or the peaks in the ripple stitches.

Hi Beth! Hope it's a nice day in Tx, it is here in Ky :-) I actually do have a question about clusters. I am working on a sunhat & just before the brim part there is sort of an eyelet look. This is what it says in the pattern: This is under the abbreviations...Beg 2-dc cluster - work (ch 3, dc) together.

Wondercul video. Very helpful. I'm wondering though when closing the cluster with a ch 1 does that chain 1 count in the stitch count. For the next round/row to we concider that a stitch or hop over it to the next stitch?

@cindysbiz Each pattern is different. These videos are to give you an idea of what your pattern might be trying to depict. The popcorn stitch is super 3 dimensional.

This is the row here that I'm stuck on: Round 3: Ch 2, yarn over, insert hook in first st, yarn over and draw up a loop, [yarn over, insert hook in next st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook] twice in next st, yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook (counts as first 4-dc cluster) ch 3, *work 4-dc cluster over next 2 sc, ch 3; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first cluster-8 clusters.

i am doing a hat pattern that calls for the double treble crochet stitch cluster. When i am doing these clusters with the dtr cl, my first loop on the hook always gets stretched out and way too big no matter how hard i try to tighten the loop on the hook before i do my three yarn overs. what can i do to tighten this up? it looks sloppy when you have to put stitches in it on the next row. it doesnt seem to happen as bad with a dc cluster.

I have a pattern that calls for a 4-dc cluster that is like the last method you did. I was hoping you had room to do four. I would have really liked to see that. The pattern is a pineapple square throw that calls for 12 pineapple square motifs. It starts out with a magic ring.

I am just new to this and my pattern reads R1- (RS) Dc in the 4th ch from hook (beginning ch counts as dc), * sk next 2 ch, (3dc, ch1, 3 dc) in next ch, sk next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch; repeat from * across, turn-4 pattern repeats. I think I understand everything but the (3dc, ch1, 3dc) part...is the cluster that you talk about in this video similar to what they mean by this?? It is best for me to watch someone do this...reading a pattern, not always easy for me! thanks!

@AmethystRoseMs
@AmethystRoseMs 12 жыл бұрын
Then the pattern reads like this...Rnd 1: Beg 2-dc cluster, sk next 3 dc, ch 1, (2-dc cluster, ch 3, 2-dc cluster) in next dc, ch 1, [(2-dc cluster, ch 3, 2-dc cluster) in next FPdc, sk next 3 dc, ch 1, (2-dc cluster, ch 3, 2-dc cluster) in next dc, ch 1] around, 2-dc cluster in last FPdc, ch 3, join with sl st in top of beg ch-3. This sounds so confusing to me, I can't picture how it will look & also incorporating a cluster into a fpdc. I hope that you can help me :) Thanks!

Hi I am having trouble figuring out if the following directions make sense for the second row of a crochet skirt The First Row ended as follows: 9DC in 1CH, SK 3 SC1 CH3 and turn ROW 2: : Sk1, sc, '4dc Closters over the next 4 stitches. This seems to tell me I should do 2 DC's in the CH3 stitches after the SC and 2 DC in the beginning of the 9DC fan But that doesn't feel right ... Thanks this is new to me but i am having fun!
@Bethintx1
@Bethintx1 8 жыл бұрын
+Liz Hahn Sounds like you are making fan stitches. Usually a pattern will say 'chain space' or ch. When they say 'next x number of stitches', you usually skip the chains. Meaning you would work into the dc stitches.I couldn't tell you for sure without working the pattern myself. What is the name of the pattern? What is the publisher/ designer name? Are you on Ravelry? The designers are often on there to help. There are other folks who may have made the same item and have a project page for theirs with notes.

i am having trouble understanding what a crochet pattern means when it tells you to repeat a pattern (by putting *'s where to start & finish the repeat) it says to rep from * to last 12 chains, but the pattern they gave me isn't lasting intil the last 12 chains. does it mean that the pattern will end on the last chain, or to just do what you can until the last 12 chains, because it never ends up right and the next row doesn't add up either.
@Bethintx1
@Bethintx1 11 жыл бұрын
That means to stop when you have 12 chains left over.

Hi, my pattern says this under Cluster stitch, " in st indicated work (sc,hdc,dc)." I haven't seen any videos that have a cluster stitch that would single crochet, half double, and double crochet. Is this still considered a cluster stitch?
@Bethintx1
@Bethintx1 8 жыл бұрын
+meuamor1094 Some designers will create a group of stitches and generically call them a cluster of stitches. I am guessing this is what they meant. Without knowing which pattern it is, I can't tell you for sure. You can try and contact the designer. Most have a Ravelry page and a way to contact them.

You would work 2 double crochet into the chain-2 space, and one double crochet in the top of the cluster stitch, If it is too tight, work a 3rd dc in the chain space.

+Haley Comber I am not sure what the pattern writer means by 'next x ch.' Is the pattern designer on Ravelry? Is the pattern in the Ravelry database? If so others who have made it might be able to help. If you are not a member of Ravelry, you should sign up. It is the best site for crocheters and knitters on the net! www.ravelry.com/

Hi! To crochet the initial chain, is it a multiple of? TIA!
@Bethintx1
@Bethintx1 7 жыл бұрын
That depends on the pattern. I would say a multiple of 3 + the turning chain.
@BBknits
@BBknits 7 жыл бұрын
Bethintx1 thanks for replying, but what I'm referring to is the initial chain, which in this case you did a single crochet foundation. If I rather do a chain, how many chains do I need?
@Bethintx1
@Bethintx1 7 жыл бұрын
That is what I am also referring to. It depends on the pattern and the number of clusters you are making and how far apart you want them. This video is just demonstrating how to make the cluster stitch. It is not a pattern. If you want to place a cluster in every other stitch then it is a multiple of two plus 1 plus the turning chain.

I do not have a video on that nspecifically (as far as I remember! ) ... I do have tulip beanie, mitts and a throw video series'. This is from the beanie. You may get an idea of where to place your stitches on this. please not this is all worked from the right side. Your scarf is likely worked on the wrong side. kzbin.info/www/bejne/enLVmKR7jt6ia7M
