How do you properly measure the head for sizing so the hat will fit?
@AmericanCrochetAssociation3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! I suggest using a fabric (soft) tape measure around the head. Here are some more details: americancrochetassociation.blog/219/crochethatguide/

My head is larger than normal. I had to have my hats custom made when I was in the military. Sometimes I get lucky with men’s hats but not very often
@AmericanCrochetAssociation2 жыл бұрын
That's exactly why I suggest measuring for the best fit when making hats. What do you think about our suggestions?

Can you use a baby doll to measure the head if you're in the business to sell?
@AmericanCrochetAssociation Жыл бұрын
Great question! You don't need a model (like a doll) when you have a measurement guide like this: americancrochetassociation.blog/crochet-hat-guide/ Also, size by age varies, so actual measurements will be the best way to get the best fit.

I keep following size charts and they never seem to be very accurate when I try it on the people they are supposed to fit. Not just "kind of" but some charts are WAY off. Is there a ratio that would work better when you know the circumference?

My granddaughter measures 20” at age 6. What size do I crochet?
@AmericanCrochetAssociation29 күн бұрын
Sizes by age can drastically differ from person to person, so size should not be determined by age alone. Here is a written version of this topic, with a cheat sheet to help: americancrochetassociation.blog/crochet-hat-size-chart/

I'm new to your channel, but I do have a question. My grandson is a big boy at 8 months. I took his measurements 17inches circumference and 8 inches from crown down to cover the ear and it seems his measurements are like in between sizes. What do I do?
@donyaw.14534 жыл бұрын
Also I'd love to make a cardigan for myself possibly with the bobble stitch throughout so I don't know what the multiples would be and where and how to measure for it. I pass up making so much stuff because of this. Also no cardigans with bobble stitch throughout the entire cardigan. Seems no one likes to work with it. Lol

Thank you for watching! The hat should fit the head, no matter the "age size".

I need to make a fourth of July hat for my nephew. His head is 19 ". I wanted to do a newsboy style with color changes. I have no idea how to get started. Please help.😁
@AmericanCrochetAssociation2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for asking! Follow a pattern that will produce a size that fits the head (don't follow sizes by age alone). After a quick ravelry search, I found about 80 patterns for newsboy style hats, here: ravel.me/bi6bun Enjoy :)

I have several hats made years ago. How can I reverse engineer to decide what size hat it is? Measure the hat opening?
@AmericanCrochetAssociation3 жыл бұрын
Good question! When you say reverse engineer, do you mean recreate? To find the size of a hat, you will just measure the opening (where your head goes). The size of the opening determines the size of the head it will fit.
