I LOVE using basic math to avoid making mistakes and also to ensure proper proportions. I can't believe I never thought of this! When designing knitted hats, I often wondered how much height the top decreasing would make (ofcz It depends on your decrease but this provides a nice baseline). I never ventured into designing crochet hats for just this reason, too. Thank you + thank you + I'm subscribing = I look forward to seeing more of your videos!

Thank you, I love making my own patterns but I have had problems coming up with an efficient way to figure out stitch layout for hats and resizing for different head types...this helps so much. I honestly don't know why I didn't think of it since my dad taught me to love math...I guess it was a forest through the trees type moment...anyway thank you.

FORMULA IS : circumference of circle=pi*diameter, therefore d=circumference/pi, if circumference=22inches the diameter= 22/3.1416=7,,,,value of pi is given as (22/7=3.1416)

Hi, I've been struggling with a hat I'm trying to crochet and I thank you for the explanation and the math lessons, which I needed. I have one question, what if I want a beret and not a beanie type of hat, should I not make the diameter a little more than 7 inches if I want a floppy beret? The type that can sit on the top of your head and you can put it sideways or pulled back a bit. I hope you understand my question? I guess I'm trying to ask you if it's the same for big berets that cover your ears. Thank you for making this video, I really appreciated the math lesson.
@JoannesWeb
@JoannesWeb Жыл бұрын
I love berets! I used to wear them all the time. What you do, is kee on adding stitches the same way for about 12 inches or as wide as you want your beret to be. Then just go around a few rows and take off often, until you have the size of your head. I usually finish mine with a ribbing (double crochet front and back post)

Hello... I did crochet a hat based on tutorial. And the diameter of hat is 16cm. So I try to calculate the round of the hat by this formula. Then I measure the round of hat that I crocheted. And.. Tara... The result is different. If I use this formula the result sould be 50,2656. But, when I measure it the result is 54. And now I want to crochet the different size and I confuse about the size. So what do I do? Does the motif or pattern and yarn give the influence on it?

Hello, I was wondering if you could please help me knit a hat that fits nicely. I'm trying to knit a hat with a 19" circumference (for a young child). That means my diameter is 19/pi=6.04~~ roughly equal to 6 inches in diameter. But if I am knitting, how do I know how many stitches to cast on to match this? I know that I knit 3.5 inches per stitch using the yarn and needles I am using. However, if I simply multiply 3.5 inches/stitch by 19 inches, that will give me roughly 66 stitches, and that is far too much. I knit a hat with 54 stitches and it fit an adult woman. Could you please help me find out how many stitches I need to cast on with my current gauge to match a 19" circumference, please? Thanks!

So i measured my husbands head around. it measured 90. i divided by 3=30. ok...so at the beginning do i chain 4 and after i slip stich that chain ro make the circle..how many in side double crochet in that circle do i put in it? would it be 30? if so afterwhich do i just begin normal crocheting? u just dont understand why professional crocheters just cant explain things much simpler. very frustrating

kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGnNhHppadB0iK8 My dear, I doubt a person's head can measure 90. It's usually 21 to 24 inches. You divide that between 3.14 and the diameter is usually around 7" Please watch the link on top for the vintage cap.
