HOW TO ADD A BORDER TO A BLANKET - ENCLOSED DOUBLE BORDER
In this video, I am telling you all about how to add a border to a blanket. In this case, I did the enclosed double border around my Havana blanket. The crochet blanket itself is not my pattern but the idea of the enclosed border is. And I also tell you all about the colours I chose for making this Afghan border.

Earlier than planned there is my take on the enclosed border. KISS, in all things and certainly here when the border is your last piece of the blanket to complete! Enjoy! Anja xxx

Just curious if you could explain two parts to me... 1) when doing the individual boarder sides, how did you do the corners? I know for Chevron Afghans you put three sitches in the top stitch to give it that peak, is that what you did for this? 2) when joining together, could you explain the process of joining the corners a little more? I understood the join and the two chains, but what was the part after that? I didn't really understand the explanation in the video. Thanks!

This is saving my project. I had a lot of ends and no patience to sew them in this week. The pattern calls for fringe and I am not a fan of fringe. So I am working an envelope border. I looked at a lot of options over the weekend and this is what I decided to try. Thank you so much. I will be using this again.

Just two other things I'd like to add. 1) I always go down a half a hook size when doing my borders. Sometimes even an entire hook size. For my latest blanket, I used a 4mm for the blanket and dropped down to a 3.5mm for the border. It eases the waviness and 2) the initial round of slip stitches can be done in a color that would blend in. My current project has a navy border. I did my slip stitches in navy as well to make them not as noticable. It wasn't as hard as I expected. But for someone who is new to crochet, it may be challenging. LASTLY... I just love Anja and her voice so very much! Such an inspiration to myself and so many others 💗💗💗

Perfect timing for me Anja! I agree HDC is better than DC for a plain border!! Thanks for that hint! If I end up doing the mosaic border, then I will follow those instructions. But I'm still waiting for my yarn to arrive, so I won't have to make that decision for a long time yet. LOL! This will help me to finish up my little swatch I'm doing. I decided to also watch your other enclosed border tutorial today too. Thanks again!!

Hi Penny, looks incredibly hard but it is made working in the back loops only for stripes and a double crochet to make the longer looking stitches. Tinna's tutorials are very clear and easy to follow. Have a go at a small doll size blanket using 2 colours. The pattern is on Ravelry type in Havana and look at the photos from other peoples blankets. Some have used a self striping yarn and a base colour. You'll become addicted.

Your blanket looks stunning! Love Tinna's design and your own border is great! I am making another of her mosaic blanket designs, and while it looks lovely, it seems to not go straight but rather slightly off to the left (I am left-handed). Usually it's solved by going front to back but with mosaic crochet you don't do that. Did you have a similar issue and was it solved but adding a border and a good blocking?

Thanks, it depends on what stitches you have done for your rows, for example if the last stitches are double crochets then over two rows I would do 3 slip stitches, not too many or it will go wavy when adding your border rows. I do however have a new way of doing an enclosed border, which I designed for the Greenway CAL which has no slip stitches, why not take a look here…kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqHHfGiNYq-koJosi=VDVf_1hXHZpLmikc Anja x

That looks like a pretty small hook - is it smaller than the one you used to make the blanket?
@OpheliaTalks

No it was the same size... it was just easier to twist this handle...

I down size my hook when doing my double borders and mine don't wave. Have you found that to be the true with yours?

Are using UK or American terms on your border as in DC and HDC. Im getting ready to do a border around a mosaic blanket. I have done mosaic and sc borders before. Im qurious about the HDC border, that's why I'm asking about the different terms.

Hi Anja. Just wondering, did you increase stitch count on your Havana when using dk. I have the pattern but haven't been brave enough to start it 🤣 It says to use aran, so I guess it would work up smaller in dk my stash is stylecraft dk. Also can you please tell me how many balls of graphite you used for background. Hope you don't mind me picking your brains. X K

Hi Kathryn, because the pattern is made by repeating a stitch count of 12, you can use any yarn, make it any width or length you like. Play with your hook size to get a fabric your happy with. Start with a small doll size blanket as a sampler to get you started.

yes my blanket tuned out really small because I did use DK. I think I used 6 balls of graphite and then more for the border.

The video is about the enclosed border, and this enclosed border is not just Tinna's invention. There are many more enclosed borders doing the rounds and this is my variation. Thank you for watching CJ Jebsen-Ross ! Anja xxx 💕🌈

Your blanket has inspired me even more than Tinna‘s ones and so last week I gave the stich a try. I made a lovely small bag, easy and quick. Before starting with a bigger project I need to get rid of one concern though: the *link side*. It ends up so wide, if I make a blanket it will be at least 50 cm longer on the left side (I’m right handed)! What do you recommend? About your live stream on Sundays, I do watch them either live or afterwards 😊
