//FAQs??
-How many squares do I need for a baby blanket?
This can vary, it really can be however big or small you like, but i generally do 4x4 or 5x5.
This blog post might be useful: bit.ly/1UIobie
-How many chains shall I do for a *single/double/etc' blanket?
Again, this can vary. I would suggest that you do your chain and lay it down agains the bed you are wanting it for. It should be the same width. You should then ad a few more to make it a little wider.
This blog post might be useful: bit.ly/1UIobie
-How much yarn do I need?
Unfortunately, I will be able to answer individuals questions about how much yarn you would used do to multiple factors affecting it. Such as, your tension, the size of hook and the yarn being used.

I'm 71 years old and have been crocheting for 60 years. I thought I knew pretty much everything there is to know about crochet. Ha! I've always been unhappy with the look of joining new colors no matter how careful I am. Can't wait to use this excellent method. Guess you really can teach an old dog a new trick.

I've only been crocheting for about a year and a half, but I don't understand why we're not taught standing stitches as standard from the beginning. Same with turning chains. Chaining 3 for a UK treble leaves such ugly and bulky gapping because it's taller than the stitches that follow, and they're clearly not a stitch. I'm so grateful to have found tutorials like this early in the game so it can form as a natural technique for me. Thank you! 🧶

I've been crocheting for almost 50 years and I discovered this method about 10 years ago. It really does make the final "product" look so much better! The only thing I don't like about it is that the final "loop" gets pulled so big and "uneven" to the other stitches - especially with the longer stitches like doubles and trebles (US).
@bellacococrochet
@bellacococrochet Жыл бұрын
It's a great technique isn't it! 😊 I find if you use the knife hold to hold your hook you can use your index finger to hold the loops, and this can help stop them become too big.

Hi Sarah-Jayne. Great tutorial! I love these types of stitches! I rarely ever join a new color with any knot. I’ve seen a few variations and I love the look they make. I must say though that when you did it with the knot coming out on top it looked very neat and clean! Thank you for sharing!💞

Since this looks so much better, what's the advantage of doing a chain over using a standing stitch?
@bellacococrochet
@bellacococrochet Жыл бұрын
Lots of people find making chain stitches easier, but also if you were continuing using the same yarn at the beginning of each row or round you would need to chain as normal, otherwise you would end up with lots of extra ends to sew in 😊
@DementedDog
@DementedDog Жыл бұрын
@@bellacococrochet I thought perhaps you could use some sort of standing stick instead of a chain, when using the same yarn 🙂

If you’re changing colours you can do this in exactly the same way as you would when working flat 😊

Can this be used at the beginning of rows where you are continuing with the same color? So you already have a loop on your hook.
@bellacococrochet
@bellacococrochet 7 ай бұрын
If you are continuing with the same colour I would recommend chaining as normal, unless you want to cut your yarn and join it again; standing stitches work great for adding a new colour or starting a new ball of yarn 😊

Ok so here's my problem when I create the standing stitch without the knot , when I have to crochet into that stitch on my way back around , I'm finding the stitch is extremely lose and looks as though it will come out almost like there's nothing anchoring it down ughh
@bellacococrochet
@bellacococrochet Жыл бұрын
You’ll find that the top of the standing stitch is much looser compared to one with a knot, but if you hold the end of the yarn and give it a little pull you can tighten it, and once you sew in the end it will stay nice and secure 😊
