One of the best scenes in Miami Vice! Hackman kills the stage light operator and sets up his laser-sighted rifle, taking aim at Crockett. However, due to his belief that Crockett killed his wife, Hackman instead shoots Caitlin, who falls into Crockett's arms and dies.
From Miami Vice Season 4 Episode 21 'Deliver Us from Evil': Frank Hackman returns to make life hell for Crockett - in the most devastating way possible

One of my favorite scenes in the show depicting depression, or a feeling close to it, alongside how they portrayed Tubbs' sadness for losing his former lover, son and brother. It was mature, respectful, way ahead of its time and few media would see the male protagonists in such positions. I also give much credit to the work of Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas.

1. The music used by Jan Hammer in this scene... 2. Don Johnson and Phillip Michael Thomas... 3. The Dark Red special effect used when Rico is alone at the top of the boat. 4. The Dark Grey special effect when Rico tried to speak with Crockett at the end of the scene.... 5. Everything was PERFECT in this scene.

Don Johnson deserves more credit for his acting than he gets. I often wondered why Caitlin was never mentioned again. When Angelina was killed, everyone went to the cemetery. Even when Sonny went to visit his son, Caroline never said she was sorry to hear about Caitlin. It was as though she never existed.

This is one of Miami Vice most intense episodes from its later seasons. This showed that there was still promise in continuing the series and building on the Crockett & Tubbs relationship which is central to the show's success. Unfortunately the filmmakers behind these last 2 seasons screwed the pooch after getting cancelled by the network for poor ratings just scrambled to get the show finished and ended up sacrificing the quality of stories being told. If the network had not sidelined Executive Producer Michael Mann, who had big plans for taking the show into the 90's, the show could have lasted another 3-5 years joining the likes of long running shoes like Magnum PI and Hunter but alas it was not to be.

Sometimes I think it's better it ended when it did. Miami Vice WAS the 80's. It was everything 80's all in one package. Many years ago, I was in my late 20's, and a young man, middle school age, asked me what the 80's were like. I told him "Watch Miami Vice, that'll tell you most of it. The parts that matter, anyway." To push it into the 90's, I don't think would have worked. I think Home Improvement may have been the show of the 90's. As cop shows go, the 90's belonged to NYPD Blue, a show right up there with Miami Vice. There's a reason I have both on DVD.

A huge thank you for putting this type of more heartfelt clips. Sometimes, when I wanted to emphasize the emotional and dramatic side of "Miami Vice", people looked at me with perplexity, because some people only saw in this TV show the fashion side, pastel colors, nice cars, etc. With this type of excerpts, you prove the more sensitive and captivating side of Vice, which is one of the reasons why this show is still relevant today, even decades later.

-The thing that stuck with me forever about this TV show was its authenticity, something you rarely saw in TV shows of the 1980s. I was 12 years old when this TV show aired. Being a not very happy child, knowing that life is not always positive, when I listened to this series, I said to myself "Finally, a series which is not in the fake, which is true". In spite of the very present fashion side, often in this series, almost all the finales of the episodes ended badly, the bad guys won, and whether we like it or not, it is the reality; often the bad guys have the last word, and it is often why we can be unhappy in this life, and this tele-series had the emotional intelligence to note it, which made us feel more understood, less alone in this more realistic observation of life. This made room for a rare emotional involvement in a police series, with great musical choices to support the scenes, the emotional intensity of actors like Don Johnson, the editing work that was striking, the outstanding contribution of producer-director Michael Mann, it is no wonder that this series is spoken of as an essential reference, even today.

@ Gabriel Leao and Anto Erickson Thank You for reminding that Tubbs has been through as much loss (if not more) as Sonny has and is uniquely suited to discuss his depressed feelings with him. Through the course of the series run, Tubbs has endured the loss of his brother, Rafael Tubbs [S1 E1 Brother's Keeper], his ex-lover Valerie's sister [S1 E16 Rites of Passage], and his other lover Angelina Calderone and his son Ricardo Calderone [S2 E22 Sons and Lovers]. {BTW...the assumed death of his son Ricardo Calderone is a plotline that I believe the writers should have pursued in S3 E19 The Afternoon Plane and they failed to do so. Oh well...) Miami Vice--Greatest Cop Show EVER!!! FAN FOR LIFE!!!
