Hi, I'm also trying to do this. Crocoblock told me there is no way to edit/create the relation meta data from the front end form. To do so, we'd have to recreate the relationship structure manually. My guess is using CCT to define the relationship and building custom SQL queries in query builder. Definitely disappointing. For anyone wondering my use case: I have a CPT (project) that shows a custom CCT (common tasks) list in a table using a many to many relationship. The relation meta is used to assign a number for custom sorting. So 2 CPT's can share many of the same CCT but the CCT must list in a different order for each CPT. It all works fine via the admin but it's cumbersome/unattractive for users to edit. And they need to edit other things about the CPT where multiple forms would be required alongside this form.

This was helpful, but it leaves me with a question. What if there was a frontend form to create the child? In this case, you can have the parent id, but you do not have the child id. Why? Because the child id does not exist until it is created. So, can we create a child item AND connect it to the parent on one form?

this solution should help you Please, follow the instructions outlined below: gist.github.com/Crocoblock/106f0a10fd4b40301d4c950326e84998 Let me show an example. I have a relation between CPT "Properties" (parent) and Users (child): prnt.sc/VvAKhmdIaEzu In the settings of the relation, I activated the REST API support: imgsh.net/a/yRsLOyk.png Also, I created a Text meta field named "test_relation_field" prnt.sc/5rfcmtE87YM7 Now, my goal is to display a form on the single post page of the property post that will update the relation meta field value between the currenly logged-in user and the current post. The first task is to configure a pre-set. To pre-set a relation meta field, we will use JetEngine shortcodes. Follow to WordPress Dashboard > JetEngine > Shortcode Generator and generate a shortcode that will return the relation meta field value: prnt.sc/lFtwMmA5Ppaf prnt.sc/P6JiQMahs5ah Now, you can insert this shortcode into the Default Value of any field to populate the field. For example, I added a Text form field and inserted the shortcode from the Shortcode Generator into the Default value: prnt.sc/BVYnH6L0UDEP The relation meta field between my user and the current post has this value: prnt.sc/0C2WfFgJTijr And so it is pre-set: prnt.sc/487_ploe3FHy The next step is to configure the "REST API Request" action. For this action, we will need the ID of the current post and the ID of the current user. You can retrieve them with Hidden fields: prnt.sc/DkSjaABhUH2_ Add the action and edit it: prnt.sc/hw6qDXew8Uis The REST API URL can be taken from the relation settings: imgsh.net/a/OXED3jx.png The example of a custom body can be taken from the Relation settings too. This is my setup: prnt.sc/9diwE6y0q2WT { "parent_id": "%current_post_id%", "child_id": "%current_user_id%", "context": "child", "store_items_type": "update", "meta": { "test_relation_field": "%_form_field_1%" } } The description of each property name can be found here: gist.github.com/Crocoblock/106f0a10fd4b40301d4c950326e84998 Basically, you need to set the "parent_id" to the Hidden field that contains the ID of the parent object (in my case, it is "%current_post_id%"), the "child_id" should be set to the child object ID (in my case, "%current_user_id%"). The "context" and "store_items_type" can be taken from my example. In the "meta" parameter, specify the meta field name (in my case it's "test_relation_field") and the value to set (in my example, I take the value from the Text field named _form_field_1). Note that if you specify form field names, you need to wrap them in percentage signs % and in brackets "", as in my example. Finally, set up the Authorization: prnt.sc/x-tGKFnE_WvM It should be concatenated from your admin username and your Application Password (can be set in WordPress Dashboard > Users > Profile > Application Passwords: prnt.sc/UNNhU9ry3MTn Now, it is time to test the form. I change the value in the Text field: prnt.sc/6LTujnBneIne And it changes in the backend too: prnt.sc/6FYn0pWhR_b7

Thanks for the tutorial. Ok.. I've tried adding the relations thing to a post creation form. It works. Just add the Connect Relations after Insert/Update Post Submit Actions. I can add children to the parent when creating a parent. Cool. However, is there a way to limit the list of children only to those that does not have a parent? It's a one to many relation. So the list should only display children with no parent. At the moment, the list of children displays all child - even those that already have a parent. If I were to pick a child of another parent, then the parent will lose the child connection as the child is now connected to the new parent. Thanks ..
