One of the reasons that Mick is charming is he keeps trying to show off, but he isn't a macho idiot - he just wants everyone to think of him as a larger than life character, the kind of person everyone is always telling stories about. He doesn't buy into his own legend, he just has fun with it.

This classic romantic comedy was a huge hit in 1986 and is still as funny as ever. I saw this in the theater when it came out, and the whole theater burst into cheers and applause at the ending, probably the greatest final scene ever in a romantic comedy. Paul Hogan became known in the U.S. for a very popular series of commercials he did for the Australia Tourism Board. He presented the same sort of character, a super-friendly regular guy who invited you to visit him in Australia. He capitalized on that popularity to make this movie.

Another great film that showcases the “fish out of water” theme (and one I KNOW you would enjoy) is called “The World’s Fastest Indian”. The movie is “based on a true story” about an elderly man from New Zealand who builds a racing motorcycle out of an old Indian motorcycle. He makes the trip to the U.S. to race it and meets quite a few people who’s lives are touched by the “kindhearted” visitor from Down Undah. Great movie that stars Anthony Hopkins. We're famous for Minnesota nice. Actually, I did use that hand trick with a dog once. It was running around loose, and everyone was trying to catch him. It was obviously having fun, and it was a game. I did the Mick Dundee thing, and he was so captivated that I was able to just walk up and grab him gently by the collar. I don't think there was any magic I think the dog just thought I was weird. and was confused. You're right, Sue was leading Mick on quite a bit. Ideally this movie should have taken more time for the relationships to get sorted out. It made me uneasy as well that it was a tad sordid, but then I'm Minnesotan.

About the team 'Sheila' It means woman or dumb woman, unfortunately it was used as 'dumb woman' so often it's bad manners to use it now unless it's clearly just meaning woman in the context it's used, it has become easier just to not use it. I have still heard 'just a Sheila' used in the same way some people use 'dumb blonde'. If you're thinking about watching 'Crocodile Dundee 2' be advised it's a very different movie, basically, Sue gets into trouble with drug dealers and Crocodile Dundee deals with them. Love your reviews.
