I had no problems with Lizzo playing that flute. I DID have massive problems with anyone anywhere even breathing on Marilyn Monroe's historic dress. That dress is made of incredibly fragile fabrics and when she stepped on the hem, dripping beads everywhere, and stretched it out, she caused damage to it that can not be repaired. No one should have worn that dress and certainly not to an event where there were bright lights, fluctuating temperatures, and where the person in the dress was not the person it was made for. That flute was in no danger from Lizzo and she was careful handling it. I was enchanted by her playing in the LoC, she's amazing.

The issue about the flute is not because she is fat or black. People do not realize that a vast majority of actors, musicians etc, in the entertainment business, are not uneducated poor peeps. They are highly educated, classically trained individuals from very prominent schools and universities. They often are from upper middle class families. Don't assume anything about anyone, because you will be wrong. Lizzo is a classically trained flautist, and I am sure she was very honored to play the crystal flute made by Laurent and given to Madison. Would they be upset if Eddie Van Halen played an instrument by Stradivarius? Actually, there's a big difference. The dress was made to be worn by someone much smaller. They ripped open the whole back of Marilyn Monroe's dress because it was way too small to squeeze Kim into it. There was also minor accidental damage to other areas on the dress. Even after it is repaired someone who looks at it closely will be able to tell that it was damaged and repaired just by looking at it. A flute is made to be played by someone of any size or shape. They didn't have to break the flute for Lizzo to simply play it.
