I don't really know where to start. This guy for anyone who knows hockey is just about the most complete player to ever play. His finesse and humility are unmatched. As other players in this video keep reiterating how he's the best player in the league, just shows you how incredible he is. His far side backhand goal against the Sharks for example...who else has scored a goal like that? Simply mesmerizing with his creativity and selflessness with the puck. His assists were sometimes more highlight reel than his goals. And that's saying something. It's a real shame he left the NHL this year, as he is truly missed.

Opinions are like assholes everyone has one but in my mind he's the best ever. I can't think of a single player with his offensive skill level, and to couple that with probably the best defensive forward ever one on one and one of the highest hockey IQs ever if not the highest. Gretzky and Lemieux played when everyone was scoring. They're the best from that era no doubt but people act like no one can ever touch them because of their numbers. People also forget that in his prime datsyuk was one of the fastest skaters in the league. Not like gaborik or grabner fast but he was in that next lowest tier. Put datsyuk up against any player ever one on one and no one comes close to matching his overall skill set. In my mind him and Crosby are the two best right now. Mcdavid is amazing and could be up there with them but I need to see more.

if I had to take one player to start my team in an all time fantasy draft, I'd take datsyuk number one. best hands, amazing iq, best defensive forward, amazing skater, pin point shot, secretly strong and solid, and plain and simple the most skilled player ever. no other player packs everything that datsyuk does and there has never been a player make other nhlers look like the jv team every night. watching him every night he always did something you just had to laugh at because you hadn't seen it before. there isn't any one with better hands and there isn't any player that matches him at both ends. my opinion but the absolute best ever.

Got see him live a dozen or so times......the most skilled hockey player I’ve ever seen. Able to do things I didn’t think were possible. Even on routine/non-‘highlight’ plays that don’t end up as a goal or an assist, etc....just absurd talent: the fake drop pass to get some space coming from his own end, perfect position backchecking to prevent a pass on a 3 on 2 against, getting guys leaning the wrong way so space opens for teammate, etc...and on and on.....the dude was just absurd. His release was so quick and he’d shoot “off beat” a lot...getting the puck off his blade before the ‘natural rhythm’ of play...and that, in a league where every goalie is great & defenders are great at getting the shooting lanes, is just so impressive (something you’d see Gretzky, Forsberg, Crosby, etc). Amazing player. Great video!

I went to 4 or 5 playoff games every year and always amazed by Datsyuks abilities. I can't remember which year but prob 2014/2015 I watched Wings comeback from down 3 goals at start of 3rd to beat Phoenix and the Joe Louis Arena erupted. It was so loud and crazy I thought the concrete was gonna reach its resonance frequency and just completely crumble and collapse under the clapping, stomping and cheering. It was the loudest sporting game I have ever been to in my life. Just the typical Red Wings experience throughout those years always behind in goals in the 3rd period and then the last 2 minutes of the game they go full nonstop offense to finally score and win. Makes you wonder what they were doing the whole 1st & 2nd periods of the game just skating around for fun and not really even playing. Thats what made all their games great. The push they put on for goals in the last few minutes of the 3rd period always gets people on edge and they always score to win or tie it up in the JOE would just erupt!

Everyone talks about his hands, and for good reason, but I rarely see comments about his breakaway speed. When he got behind a defense, it was his speed that gave him the space to put the moves on and beat the goalie, and his skating and balance had as much to do with the Datsyukian dekes as his hands. Great video man...growing up my dad was a Wings fan back in the early 2000s...still remember watching Carolina vs Det in the finals...back when they had McCarty, Lidstrom, Yzerman. I have lots of respect for Detroit...alas I'm a caps fan myself...firstly an Ovechkin fan...following him since he was drafted and my god is Ovechkin also a generational player. I have immense respect for Datsyuk, you look around in the league, and you look at players that play the game the RIGHT way. He embodies that more than anyone else in the league by far. At least when it comes to thinking, elegance, demeanor, flair, man he's got it all. That goal he scored against SJ in game 7 of the playoffs is still one of the dirtiest things I've ever seen in sports. No business that backhand was going perfectly top shelf. No business. I couldn't even look at the screen for a min after that shot was just incomprehensible haha. People talk Crosby vs Ovechkin all the time. And I love Ovechkin to death...he's the reason why I still follow hockey. Crosby I think is really good too, and it's stupid to debate. Both different players, and I couldn't pick whichever player I wanted. But i'd rather have datsyuk than these two. No one hates pavel, and this guy can play until 45 easily. If Jagr can, Pavel can play till 45 easy. He's even go the play style to match

One of the greatest players that will ever grace nhl! His Puck awareness and ability to see things that were developing that nobody else could and is downright footwork and vision, and my words makes him the goat! There are other players that show larger numbers and more prowess in their scoring abilities but when it comes down to Straight puck awareness and Keen sense of how the play is developing nobody has or will deliver what he has! You can take the top 10 best players in the past 10 years and put them against Pavel dad zuk one-on-one and they'll be shaking in their skates! Because they know!

If datsyuk’s prime was in today’s social media era he would be far less underrated

Is Pavel the best player ever? No. Was he the best player, not of all-time, but of the NHL players playing at that time? Not last year but a while ago, definitely. In my personal opinion, he's one of the best, if not the best player, at handling the puck and getting the job done. In my opinion, he's one of the best NHL players ever. When I think of the best, I think of Gretzky, Lemieux, Hull, Datsyuk and many others. He's of the best Detroit players ever and despite not playing for them, he's possibly the best player to be contracted with Arizona ever. Other people may not think like that, that's fine. Everyone has their own opinion, that's just mine and many other people's. But, even if you don't like him or don't think he's one of the best, you can't say he wasn't a great player and one of the best top 15 Detroit Red Wings players ever. If you said he wasn't any of those two, you'd be lying.

Ему не нужны силовые приемы, ему хватает змеиной гибкости, чистоты и красоты исполнения своих финтов. Прорывается через троих соперников и обыгрывает вратаря, это волшебство

No player has had better hands that i've seen. Not just his hands are insane, his hockey sense is Gretzky level

you guys noticed that most of his highlights come when his team is loosing or the game is tied? I mean if he didn't defend or play 100% 100% of the time he could have prolly made 150 points a season...

Easily. He wasn't a goal trader. He simply was out there to win, he was the best plain and simple. Think of how good Bergeron is today mainly due to his shutdown ability. Datsyuk was like that but with the offensive skill of McDavid with the puck.

Here's a first: Number 13 should be retired in Detroit, but it should feature two names on the banner: Kozlov and Datsyuk. Tell me what you think.

Потому что туда могут принять лишь спустя несколько лет после полного завершения карьеры игрока, а он в КХЛ ушёл. Ягр тоже пока не в зале.
