Thanks for your encouragement! I’m a new ICU nurse and it can be terrifying! Having come from medsurge, my mind is expanding in the ICU

Been an ICU nurse for 2 years now and got a new job in Detroit in the MICU. I love ICU and I appreciate you talking about the importance of self care. It is huge, I recently had a pt who was young and dealing with family and explaining they were now brain dead was very hard and heart wrenching. But I love my job and I am good with those situation, I defiantly take time and do something fun after those day though.

Great video Crosby, I'm a former traveling scrub tech now turned recruiter, and I wanted to inform myself about the many types of nurses. I really want to understand more about nursing so I can best understand my travelers. Thank you and take care.

Hey Bill! I really appreciate this video! Being an ITU nurse in the UK a lot of what you were saying is very accurate! I especially liked the point about how fast patients can crash... like a flash!

Umm I disagree with ER nurses not having to deal with crying families... Who do you think deals with the families before you get them? You think ER nurses just ignore them and send them to the waiting room? Arrogant remark on your part. We get young kids that die in the ER, middle aged people, old people.... not just the icu! I disagree with a lot of your comments, we have to deal paying attention to 4 plus patient's needs and that could include a critical patient and three other less sick people. Not one or two!

Flight nursing?!? Maybe I am very interested I’m guessing that it will be very similar to ER and ICU. Also cannot wait for peds and psych because that’s next clinical for me.

Thanks for the video. I interviewed for an ICU RN position last week, and they had a handful of intubated patient's, but they also had a lot of hold patients that were lower acuity, is that normal?

You have to pay attention to all those things in any specialty, med-surg, ER, or anything. People also die in these areas and families are there, Surprise! Actually, a lot of ICU nurses think they are superior to other nurses. They are not. It is just what they have chosen to do with your lives. You think you don't need organizational skills with 10 pts on med surg or pts flooding the ER. This is insulting. I worked step-down, ICU, med surg and now have been an NP for 25 years. I'm sorry, but I have a saying, "How do you know that someone is Vegan?" The answer, "It's the first word out of their mouth" Same thing with ICU nurses. Gee I never thought about it, maybe NP is the Top nursing specialty? Not, lol, get off your high horse ICU nurses, I have seen many flounder when floated to the floor, and I'm sure that I would too now, if I went back.

This video is about specific traits that you need to be able to work in ICU. He never said this doesn't happen in ER/wards. It's obviously a lot different when you are doing 1:1 nursing on a patient, often for multiple days and then they pass away compared to ER where you might not spend as much time with the patient
