I've done this trip twice and it's definitely a reminder that the country is beautiful and BIG!!! As a former Californian, I had to get use to the "Southern hospitality" in Georgia. Random people saying hello and at first, I was kinda taken aback but now, I have come to appreciate it. Thank you for sharing your trip with us.

Are Californians not friendly? Asking because I'm curious how the "norm" differs from state to state in the US. My friend went to college in Illinois, and was quite overcome by Midwestern politeness. Granted we're from a country where pleases and thank yous aren't given, nor expected.

@@caricakes That's a good analogy. My friend did say everyone was super nice, and wasn't sure if that was an Urbana-Champaign thing, or a Midwestern thing in general.

This reminded me a lot of when I was younger and my dad was a long-haul delivery driver and we used to go on trips through the mid-west and just stumble into these small towns. I always found it incredible to see how people are living in these relatively unknown places. Driving for that long definitely takes its toll though and I used to nap at times I didn't even know I was tired lol. I love the intro to this vlog and all your observations. There's something about your state-side videos that come across as very effortless. It's apparent that you spent time going through footage and choosing where to put what clips together, but I like that it doesn't give off the vibe of being laborious. That you've gotten such an editing groove down that you get into the zone and it's even weirdly relaxing for you (and if I'm wrong, do tell!).

I did a eastward road trip along the same route back home with a friend back in summer 2020 when we both finished school. Despite the gloomy feeling of leaving California against the backdrop of worldwide pandemic and social unrest across the nation, the trip was still nothing short of epic. There is simply no better way of saying goodbye to California by watching the palm trees and desert sands gradually turn into lush green fields as we drove east.

I'm in Wisconsin and grew up in Illinois. When my dad passed away in California my husband and 2 daughters and I drove his Chevy Cavalier from California to Wisconsin. It was a lot of time in a very small 🚗. We went through Arizona, New Mexico, Kansas. Loved New Mexico.

I found this video incredibly charming. Maybe partly because it resembled many trips I have done with family as well, so I identify with it. But it felt really sweet and was lovely to watch. Thank you.

The first part of this vlog hit me so hard. I had such a hard time saying goodbye to our family home a couple of years ago… we lived there for 24 years which at the time was as long as I had been alive. It still hurts to think about it sometimes but I have so many good memories from there!! Sending love your way! On to new adventures! 😊❤️
