i wonder if the alliance gear and horde gear *mogs* like rank 14 old scholl gears can be used by other factions? like there is gears only alliances can have them same for horde! example seen a orc with full grand marshal rank 14 is not gonna be fun! but a human with horde rank 14 gear might be awsome...

I think it has to do with the next expansion. The next expansion is gonna be something “unity” based. Uniting to fight a common enemy. No other reason to add it now this late in wow life

Makes sense. If we even think about it RP wise, not every single horde/alliance member hates the other faction's members. Even if we are heroes of azeroth or adventurers, I think it's still possible to end up doing things w/ other faction members. Valeera was a blood elf but she teamed up w/ Broll and Varian. Brox teamed up with night elves, etc. Warcraft 3 has u teaming up with different members.

This is really awesome, i have played Warcraft all the way back to Warcraft II Tides of Darkness. Me and my friends have all the time wait for this options to come. Remember back then when i was 8 years, that the Kingdom of Altarek join the Horde. We allso know that through the time alot of human and join the horde as pirats . So actually this would give the game way more freedom. Hope that they are going to allow ppl to join one of the two factions, when doing so you would get some chain quests that made through a storyline of how you get rep with the factions and finally end up work for the other faction. Sorry for alot of miss spelling. Hard when you got a Danish keyboard 😂

I think, next expansion. will all be about helping Azeroth if she wakes up, as apart of that we fix issues in the world and by the end of the expansion the horde and alliance are no more, all is open, guilds and communities take over, would be cool to make our own alliances with other guilds or go to war with them

I imagine they want to test it for a bit first, then in 10.0 it'll be available for LFG, Random BGs and Skirmishes with an "opt out" option for those who don't want to do Cross Faction.

Definitely a lot of spaghetti code to go through and update from over the years which takes a lot of time. I'd wager they wanted to push this out with 9.2.5 to beef up the content drought we're headed into and show they're working on things people want. I hope, and feel, that in 10.0 or perhaps 10.0.5 might bring some more fluidity to all of these cross faction interaction. Hopefully that includes guilds... but hope has been misplaced before so we'll see.

Yeah, I can see 9.2.5 being the "establish the system" and 10.0 bringing full cross-faction play (guilds et al) once they can get the code 100% functional.

Everyone saying "it makes no sense from a lore perspective" clearly hasn't paid attention to the story in legion or SL. Faction conflict hardly even mattered in BFA in the patches, they realised it was tripe and moved on to naga and old gods. Alliance and horde work together all the time

What's the point of excluding from LFG and LFR? People would be happier getting groups formed quickly and allowing cross faction that way would make it so. Once again blizzard makes big promises but only half arses the content

this system isn't going to workout like they think it will. they just need to add cross-faction guilds so servers can stop having one side dominated and people quitting the game because they picked the wrong server and or faction.

This is awesome. I was maining my balance druid on alliance, decided I wanted to play horde again but didn’t want to faction change/realm change my druid nor did I want to level a whole new druid on horde side. Now I can play with my horde friends on my alliance toon yeeeeeee. :’)

When you are forced to play a faction because all of your friends choosed that one and you can't play your own so you can't play the races you actually like and can't go to the places you actually like. Then blizzard release cross-faction. You get hyped they finally drop this unlogical annoying war thing between them and finally you can play with your friend doesn't matter the faction. AND THEY ONLY LET YOU DO THIS IN THE COMPETITIVE CONTENT AND EVEN THEN IT HAS IT'S LIMITS! That's shows me the leaders are still the same people let wow killed.

Just doing Raids kinda makes sense since all the enemies tend to be global threats, but not allowing dungeons of all difficulties to be cross faction, that's a bit dumb.

I kind of hope eventually this would allow for ironically another faction war where some race may not agree with their faction. People change sides in real life but there’s hardly a threat of it in WoW lore because of how would they implement it? They can’t turn someone who rolled a certain race into another faction. Unless they manage to somehow create like a personal option of do you stay loyal to the horde/alliance or your race sort of like the mini option horde got with Saurfang vs Sylv

well works on the private server I play on, everything is cross faction but you have to get a diplomacy thing from your major city, it is a vanilla+ server though so only so many instances and raids.

Unless they actually allow for cross-faction guilds, this is only going to be moderately used because most players will still stay horde because of their guilds and alliance will stay dead. This is just for those people who don't have a guild i guess so they can find groups faster through group finder

From the RP server perspective: it’s kind of stupid. They should have just toggled restrictions off to be like instance content in all stages of the game. This leaves a lot of the issues cross faction SHOULD have fixed in-attended.

What an odd choice, I understand not being able to do regular quests some quests typically come from opposite faction NPCs but with SL world quests there kinda no issue. Great choice however allowing us to turn on our allies outside of instances that was actually a really good call.

I'd have to disagree. Wow got popular because it was more accessible than its competition (Which included Star Wars Galaxies, which had a faction war as well.) It is true that a great way to encourage community interaction in an MMO is with factions, but the only reason why people identify with the Horde or the Alliance is because of what race they play. For some, that's not enough. I've seen faction war done right and it leads to the community debating ideology. There's nothing substantial to the Alliance or the Horde. There is no ideology that is in opposition, if anything, the Alliance and Horde have more similarities than differences. Their war is literally a race war. An Alliance player can't hate the Horde like a New Conglomerate Player hates the Terran Republic and Vanu Sovereignty in Planetside or like a (Alliance to Restore the) Republic player hates the Imps in either Star Wars MMO. Some people will only get invested in a faction war if there is a distinct difference they identify with. You could also go the route of Warhammer: Age of Reckoning or any Superhero MMO and have people identify with a faction base on what sort of power fantasy they like, Heroic or Villainous. The last idea is to remove the war from the faction war. You don't need conflict for people to identify with a faction, which appears to be the way Blizzard is going.

typical Blizzard. I remember when I played Vanilla hunters were restricted so they couldn't use throwing weapons with auto shot as hunters.... Then they completely removed Throwing weapons altogether... Great my dream of being able to play a troll axethrower got completely gutted. Then they restricted the game even more and in Legion they completely removed 1 handed weapons for warriors and frost dk's. Atleast now those got it back but hunter is still stuck with 2 handed weapons which makes barely sense for a hunter except maybe spears as polearms. Even Rexxar has two 1 handed weapons... and where are those quivers from vanilla?? and don't get me started on all the other restrictions in the game it makes me nuts

Can someone test if you can wear tabards from the opposite faction now that you can send items to opposite faction characters? It'd be funny if you can and they function properly enough that you could stop being hated with the other faction at least enough to tour their cities, etc. Also, now that cross faction is a thing, I hope they add some way to learn more languages so B/VElves and Demon Hunters aren't the only ones able to talk to each other across faction lines (both this and the above combined would be amazing for RP Servers since then you could roleplay even more interesting ideas/scenarios).

Clearly the reason auto-group-assembly activities are still faction locked is because of the one true hurtle of cross faction implementation: The Community. Premades are in the hands of the community and all bets are off, but an automatically assembled group can be laid at the feet of the game itself, and "dirty [insert race here]" is going to be a thing in WoW for a long time yet, unfortunately. WoW have created, validated and nurtured their own toxic tribalism since forever, and people wrongly feel entitled to it, so part of WoW's "protecting the new player from the community" has to be shielding them from the toxicity here.
