Celtic Autumn is now finished! In this video I show close ups of the design and discuss the colour conversion I used. See below for more detailed information on this.
This colour conversion was obtained from Janet Granger's blog, and I give her full credit, and my heartfelt thanks, for sharing the details (which I believe she obtained from the Celtic Ladies Forum). I have added links to both Janet's blog and the Forum, as well as given full details of the colour conversion used.
Janet Granger's blog post: janetgranger.w...
The leaves chart (not included on original L&L chart) was obtained from the Lavender and Lace Cross Stitch Group. It is listed under the Files section and the author is Jennifer Janney. I changed the colours of the leaves to:
920, 783, 300, 611, 319
Lavender & Lace Facebook Group: / 165322413647754
Celtic Ladies Forum: lavenderandlace...
Colour Conversion:
All symbols remain the same - you just simply swap out the original colours for the Autumn conversion. I advise changing the colour key to avoid any confusion when stitching.

Nicola Rooney Next is my Mum's Mirabilia (Roses of Provence). I decided to alternate between the L&L Celtic Ladies and Mira Ladies, because the Celtic Ladies are very similar in their layout and I didn't want to get bored with them. The next L&L lady will be either Summer (converted), Winter (converted with a hood - if I can get hold of the chart) or Christmas (original). I'll wait and see which one calls to me first :) x

I LOVED getting to see this beautiful lady up close. She is so very Autumnal. The conversion is just so gorgeous... the way the greens play off the orangey browns and her ginger hair... I mean, I'm not biased or anything! Hehe. Wonderful wonderful job. I didn't realize she was as sparkly and beady as she is from your pictures. Seeing her on video definitely makes a difference! Thanks for sharing.

+BlimeyCatStitches Thanks so much Brittany! There is something so special about Autumn, and I'm glad I can say I now own a piece that reflects the season properly. She's gorgeous Carolyn! You can't tell the bead difference unless it's pointed out. Stunning. Makes me want to try beading, which I will once I get my first Mirabilia going. Feels like a rite of passage. Although I think I'm going to try my hand at it on my current piece and replace french knots with beads.

+Emily C (eclecticpossessions) Oooh I love beading Emily... there's something so addictive about adding them to the blank spaces around the stitches! I'm sure you'll love it too. Quite often I too replace french knots with beads, purely because I just need to do some beading :) Thanks for watching and happy stitching :) x

I'm sure that some of the increased hours in your time were due to doing the skin 1/1. She is totally gorgeous, however, and worth the time. I have looked at this conversion a lot and tried to figure out how I would manage NOT to make a mistake with the colors. Thank you for showing me how to do it! I don't think I would have thought of the liquid paper, but that is the answer. I didn't realize the project had so many beads! Be super careful when pressing her after the wash with invisible thread (ask me how I know!) but you probably know that already. She's another masterpiece, my friend - which Mira is up for you next? I'm waiting for my fabric to start Bluebeards Princess - don't plan on waiting until Jan 1 unless the fabric forces the issues! Want to stitch her with me? :-)
@TheFlosstubeStitcher
@TheFlosstubeStitcher 9 жыл бұрын
+Shadow5618 Haha I just commented that to someone a few minutes ago - hadn't realised it at the time of filming!! You are totally right, as the 1 over 1 takes 4 times as long but is definitely worth it. Even if she had taken me a year of stitching, I would still be happy. I'll definitely report back with my ironing recommendations :) My next project is Mirabilia Roses of Provence which was chosen by my Mum. She found it hard to choose but eventually that is the one she selected. Kitting up online in the next few days :) I would love to stitch with you, but I'm not sure when I'll be starting hun. I wanted to start before Jan 1 too, but the plan was to finish my Stocking UFO and then go on to the Mira. The stocking is taking a lot longer than I thought it would (and I missed stitching on it the last 2 days!). Don't wait for me to start yours, but if it works out that we can do it together, then that will be great :) x
@Shadow5618
@Shadow5618 9 жыл бұрын
+Carolyn Mazzeo I like Roses of Provence as well. Which fabric are you going to use? That stocking is incredibly complicated so I'm not surprised it's taking you longer than you expect. I'm also waiting for the pattern on mine so don't really know when I'll be starting it either. Anyway, you can probably start AFTER me and still beat me! LOL Can't wait to see your stocking!
@TheFlosstubeStitcher
@TheFlosstubeStitcher 9 жыл бұрын
+Shadow5618 I've been looking at fabrics from Picture This Plus - I want something subtle that won't take away from the design at all. I'm thinking maybe Sprite at this stage, which is a lovely soft lavender. After I finish this stocking, there will be nothing holding me back from doing a Teresa Wenztler... it's just as difficult as her charts lol. Haha I don't think I'll beat you to a finish :) x

Lovely finish. I have this one in my ufo pile and using a very similar conversion I purchased mine from Leisurecraft (Tewkesbury) - I don't think she offers the converted kit anymore. As for the time it took you 100 - 150 hrs is about the time it takes me to do this sort of size project particularly if it has metallic and beading. So perhaps Janet is a really quick stitcher.

+Lisa Bergin Thanks Lisa! I think what also contributed to the extra time was the 1 over 1 stitching.... I completely forgot about that. It takes 4 times longer than normal stitching and there were a few areas that I stitched that way, so I'm thinking that was it. And yes I'm sure you're right - Janet is a really quick stitcher :) Happy stitching :) x

+Carolyn Mazzeo I really like that way it looks so I will be doing it as is. Though i did the conversion for the needlepaint colors to dmc...plus i already got the floss for it, but we shall see. Do you know of a different conversion for Celtic Summer?
@TheFlosstubeStitcher
@TheFlosstubeStitcher 9 жыл бұрын
Chelsea Gelesko I've seen a few. I really like the gold & green one shown here: www.thutmosis.net/CelticLadies/CelticLadies.htm as my ancestry is from Ireland, I feel the colours can relate to me. There is one here which is pinks and purples: stitchingrabbit.blogspot.com.au/2008_08_01_archive.html Another one which is all pink and changed to Celtic Easter: lavenderandlace.yuku.com/topic/1632#.ViGDKrSqpHw Another one here: lavenderandlace.yuku.com/topic/1426#.ViGDrLSqpHx I'm not sure if all these links will work hun or if you need to be a member to see them. If not, I found them by doing a Google Image search on the internet.... so many variations listed there and they will lead to the stitchers' blog where hopefully, they have listed the colours used. :)

Do you have instructions on charting one's signature? I agree on 1over1 for faces and hands. It's worth the trouble. This is perfection!

+Millie Alayon Hi Millie! For my signature I just found an alphabet book with a design that I liked and played around with it a bit and changed it to suit my needs. My particular letters had flowers, which I omitted and then I staggered them so they would take up less room, widthways on my fabric... and then I added the year. It's just really a matter of finding something you like and then adapting it. I love the 1 over 1 too... skin should be delicate and petite point is the best way to achieve that. Thank you for your lovely comment, happy stitching :) x

Hi Carolyn, Oh Celtic Autumn is soooooooooo! beautiful. I hope mine looks as good when I start it next year as one of my 2016 projects. When you start the others in the series are you going to convert any of them or stitch them as charted?Take care lovely ladyHugs Amanda from UKxxxx

+Amanda Williamson Thank you so much Amanda! I'm so glad you're going to do one next year. I think I'll be leaving the Christmas one the same, but may possibly change the others. I love the Winter one with the cape, but there isn't a pdf chart for the cape anymore so I'm not sure about that one. I'll be doing a Mirabilia next (for my Mum) so I have a little time to consider which one will be next and whether to do a conversion or not. Take care and happy stitching :) x

In one of your past videos you showed a bead storage system that you had purchased. I can't find that particular video now. I have been looking at the storage boxes with the small individual snap lid containers. I think that is what I saw in your video, but I am not sure which brand. Can you give me feedback on what you have and how you like it? "Miss Autumn" is gorgeous and your color selection is perfect.

+E.F. Bauer I am sincerely sorry for the late reply.... I just now found this comment in my "likely spam" folder along with 19 others????? You've probably already got your answer to this question by now, but in case you haven't here goes.... As for the bead storage, I'm going to direct you to McKenzie's video where you shows it off really well, because I honestly can't remember where I showed it on mine either lol! kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWPSYaaKatWXaZY I absolutely love it and wouldn't be without it. Mine cost substantially more because of the shipping to Australia, but it is worth it. I haven't filled it up yet, but when I do, I won't hesitate to buy another one :) Thank you so much for the compliment. Take care and happy stitching :) x

How do you iron after the beads are on the piece? I've heard the invisible thread can melt. Thanks for showing us a closer look at her. She's gorgeous. My favorite color is purple, but I might have to do this conversion.
@Shadow5618
@Shadow5618 9 жыл бұрын
+Kristin Choate It will most definitely melt. I had beads going everywhere on a project after I pressed it with too hot an iron. I'm sure Carolyn will figure it out and tell us how she did it so that won't happen!
@TheFlosstubeStitcher
@TheFlosstubeStitcher 9 жыл бұрын
+Shadow5618 Which invisible thread did you use? I used the YLI Wonder Invisible thread and according to their website it doesn't melt with a home iron. Maybe the iron was too hot? Another site recommended a pressing sheet between the iron and the thread to prevent melting also.
@TheFlosstubeStitcher
@TheFlosstubeStitcher 9 жыл бұрын
+Kristin Choate You know I thought I had ironed a piece with invisible thread before, but I can't remember what it was. According to the YLI website, their thread doesn't melt with a home iron - although I'm sure the temperature of the iron would have to play an important role in that. Another site suggested a pressing sheet between the iron and the thread. Don't worry, I will test it out and report back :) I still love the original colours - the purple is beautiful... just not really for Autumn. Maybe I might use it for another season conversion :) x
@Shadow5618
@Shadow5618 9 жыл бұрын
Ha ha! Yes it does! I can assure you that is wrong! I was using a medium temp AND a pressing cloth and it still melted in some spaces. Beads everywhere. I still think you can do it but you have to be really careful. Switch to NYMO thread (get it on Amazon) and you won't have to worry about it again!
@TheFlosstubeStitcher
@TheFlosstubeStitcher 9 жыл бұрын
+Shadow5618 Nymo only comes in black or white though - is that right? I actually like the versatility of invisible thread. Oh dear.... you have me scared now. I'll have to do a test piece first I think... otherwise she's not going to get a wash OR an iron :(

+E.F. Bauer Hi! It's called a Tiny Containers Tray by Bead Storage Solutions. I'm not sure where you're located but I've heard you can purchase these from Michael's or Hobby Lobby... also Amazon have good deals also. Because I'm located in Australia, I purchased mine here: www.firemountaingems.com/itemdetails/h203076pk Here's a link to McKenzie's video where she explains hers in detail: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWPSYaaKatWXaZY Not cheap, but well worth it. I love mine - they're perfect for storage. Make sure you shop around as prices do vary. Thank you for your kind comments :) x
