@@jaycastelli2339 The reasoning behind Pioneer, now AlphaTheta, stock issue is because the factory in Japan, where they made their units at, had burnt down. It had burnt down during covid. So do realize how massive this had hit Pioneer. It was more then just a chip shortage for the world. If Pioneer/AlphaThetas factory didn't burn down the shortage probably would've been handled differently. Their factory had made everything from brake pressing the metal body to the CDJ/DJMs to printing the PCB boards and everything. Generalized chip shortage and semi conductors was rampant because of the factories and their locations and covid causing a disrupt in this manufacturing process. Pioneer/AlphaTheta in theory probably would've been relatively fine. But because of the burnt down factory, outsourcing for factories is PAIN. Especially in the PCB/Semi Conductor field. I hope this makes sense to you as to why the shortage happened and was a thing. Seemingly Pioneer/AlphaTheta is back up on their feet and are handling production of these units as they are seemingly readily available. This seemed to have been resolved earlier this year.

No.. it’s a hack controller made for sync DJs with no ear. The sync with the echo assigned faders should not be ok. I was DJing a party a week ago with it and at a point realized, “wow, I can take my headphones off, blindfold myself, and barely pay attention to what I’m doing like I’m mashing buttons on an Xbox.. not ok. We have moved far from turntables, which is good for optimization, but this is no.. not for professionals. The platters are wrong. Digital platters are gross. No! What are you doing spending that much money for professional equipment that feels like a toy. DJing needs to not be so damn inclusive.. leave that to the lefties. Stop catering to the posers who ruin something that was once so pure. The AZ is perfection.

I was on a long waiting list for the old XDJ-XZ, and after 6 months of waiting for stock, i gave in and bought the Prime 4+ I've had it about 2 months now and really love it. Especially the fact that it does everything this new XDJ-AZ does and more! There are loads more music streaming options on the Prime 4+ (soundcloud, tidal, beatport, beatsource, dropbox), and you can even analyse and beat grid tracks directly in the Prime 4, without needing to use rekordbox or similar software on a pc to export to usb first! I really love the fact i can install an internal SSD and keep my whole music collection onboard without needing USB's! I was worried that I would have buyers remorse when this new XDJ-AZ was released, but now I'm not so bothered. I think I'll stick with the Prime 4+ for now ;) The only concern i have with the Denon Prime 4+ is the durability of the faders, as they dont feel quite as robust as a pioneer mixer.

I have had a Prime 4 installed in a late bar for the last 4yrs and it's still going strong. I actually bought 2 just in case but the other one is still in its box! The ONLY reason to buy Pioneer is because most venues have them installed.

The crossfader can be swapped out on the prime 4 for an innofader, but the channel faders are soldered onto the circuit board and way more complicated to replace should anything go wrong. At least I have 4 channels should one go bad. But your 4 years of use in a bar has me hopeful they will last 😁👍

Denon is like Android...really innovative but after a year Or 2 you're going to notice the degradation... Pioneer is like Apple... It might not be all the new gimmicks and technology but it's going to work like new and it should years after you buy it

I have really enjoyed my XZ (which had issues when new, rectified by firmware updates) - but the AZ is a much needed update and game changer. So many great features, makes my XZ feel old. Ordered! This is what I was waiting for. Before this, there was just not a true 4 channel all in one console that had a similar layout to a standard club dj system. The only options were an Opus Quad, but I tried it on multiple occasions and it just felt so different from what I was used to that it has never been an option for me, the XDJ XZ, but it only had 2 channels even if it had a 4 channel mixer, or you just had to go with a controller. Now for the first time from Pioneer/AlphaTheta (and yes that is the only option for me since I have my library / playlists / hot cues / etc. set up in rekordbox ready for club CDJs) I see a product that fits 99% of my needs. I just would have liked a couple more physical buttons for a couple of little things I often have to toggle, but definitely not something major. I can't wait to try this!

Totally agree with the comments re price. Also, the streaming and connectivity options are miles behind the competition. If AT reduced their prices so it reflected the feature set, which let’s be honest, is not what it should be at this price, then it could be called worthwhile. We as dj’s and the community need to stop this madness that is the AT/Pioneer pricing… I’m not anti AT, only tired of them pushing products that don’t justify the price tag, (in my humble opinion) based on what the competition offers regarding feature set vs price … Thanks for the in depth review Jamie, Appreciate it 🎉

What a disappointment. This is really the XZ from 2019 with a bigger screen and build in wifi. That's pretty much it. The biggest thing happend to the DJ industry over the last 5 years are STEMS. Where are they on AZ? The Prime 4+ from Denon has it as a stand alone unit! I worked on the XZ and than I upgraded to the Opus Quad. That was amazing. And I don't really miss the performing pads. Love the smart echo, pre-listing, and that I can hook up my 1T harddisk. To be honest, I was hoping that the AZ would be the FLX10 (with the stems function) but stand alone. That would have been a game changer. Well, guess we have to wait another 5 years right?

It has much more. Actually an entire new touch screen and OS and you can't use 4 channels without a laptop. On board analyze and the a9 mixer. There is more but that's basic main stuff

Also the denon doesn't do stems. That does stem separation that is much different. It can't take those stems and save them to be used on other tracks. Hence it only does stem separation

It would have made sense for those wireless headphones to be natively compatible (without the transmitter), with the Omnis-Duo, given the wireless focus of that system. That being said, personally I prefer in ears. I'm surprised Alpha Theta (or Pioneer) haven't implemented a sampler in to a standalone controller; I guess this could be achieved by having 8 samples loaded on 1 track, and then having said track on 1 of the now 4 available decks, which isn't nearly as bad as when you've only got 2 decks. Given that the Feedback Reducer is now in the settings, it'd be good if you could have the Mics set different. It's crazy that it's been nearly 8 years since we've been able to plug 2 laptops in to a system like this, with the DDJ-SZ2 being the last product to do it in this line. The XDJ-XZ had 3 ethernet ports, I'm presuming if you want to add multiple CDJ's or Samplers, you'll just need a network switch. Surprised to see it doesn’t support a wireless connection with the WAVE-EIGHT portable wireless DJ speaker.

You can always cue hot bank samples and load a hot bank and use it like a mini sample on a 3rd or 4th deck

@@HardcoreeggrollUT I think that’s what I suggested but you said Hot Bank, I’m not sure this system supports Hot Bank list, this is a feature where you can have multiple hot cues loaded on 1 deck, with cues for multiple tracks. This would be good, as that way you wouldn’t need to compile your samples in to 1 track. It’d still be good to have a sampler, like 4 banks of samples and the ability to easily change a sample on the fly would be perfect.

To be fair and ignoring the pioneer tax: this thing is all that is great about the cdj club setup. Familiar hotcue buttons (instead of the effed up cdj3000 ones) and a proper mixer. If I had money to spend this would be definitely be my preferred setup and would even prefer it above a full club setup.

I ve sold my Sc for a p4+ because the only things I’ m disappointed was plasticky buildt quality no real standalone mixer no effects description on the mixer and searching it in a 7 inch display. But P4+ is easy to use and have all this stuff. I ve an S4 NI with triple function. This all in One unit are useless if you play in a club . With half of budget Alpha theta new controller or a ddj 800 are ok . ( my opinabile opinion .. I m a Pioneer user too)

All in one it's computer:software+hardware+screen+buttons+terminals.Could have implement:better processor,Groove Circuit,stem,keyboard,effect pedal,sampler,dmx light,smart faters,harddisk,send+return,aux,zone out,video,cooling unit, water/dust resisting.the technology is there.Why not? Branding Opus squad less zone output is the answer?! More option on the table more creativity to the DJ/artist/musician. I believe that a lot of clubs and consumers will prefer a truly all-in-one system with all the option on the table rather partially stand alone unit. Peace❤

Great review mate. I was looking forward to the bluetooth "out" connectivity and hoping their range of speakers that connect or a receiver (like the sennheiser DMX tx/rx units) would become available. As some who has DIY been DJing with wireless HD 25's (cut and soldered the cable and tested a few different brands for no latency), the headphones is a welcome sign in the right direction, but Id love to see an adapter kit that can convert current headphones to connect with the controller because when you're not using those headphones with the unit, you might be wanting to then use your HD25's or other brands. In summary, this is what I think people were hoping for with the Opus Quad, so it's great to see it finally out. It's time to upgrade from the RX2 which has been a wonderful unit.

Looks absolutely fantastic, definitely interested, but I have to say the lack of options for connecting line/phono kind of makes me pause for thought. I have 2 Turntables and 2 DJS1000s which I currently have connected altogether into my RX2. I can switch between them easily on the mixer. With the AZ it appears that I would need to disconnect and reconnect every time I wanted to use the different players.

Removing a whole lot of buttons and just making them "digital" isn't as good as many think. I think Alpha theta is just trying to make producing costs as low as possible while making the user experience worse. I'd rather have a button that I can press within a tenth of a second than having to look through 3 different menues and having to click through all of them until I finally have some basic functions enabled/disabled. Also having more options digital is making it harder for the hardware to use it for a long time. As soon as the software gets some new update loses Support for beatport that device is basically useless. I'd rather have everything as analogue as possible so that no bugs or errors in code affect my workflow. Having Buttons and sliders that are haptical I can just replace one of them if anything breaks.

Is it fully Powered by USB C? IEC cable or the daft Pioneer dodge 1/4 inch Power Brick again? No sampler again. And where are the STEMS? 3K and no STEMS even now they have a usable 4 Channels and could have done all the funky splitting Acap & Inst to Deck 2 & 4 stuffs like the FLX10 and Rane 4. I don't get why they haven't included the Keyboard mode where you can split it across all 16 Pads like with the Rev5, or at least the option in the software to do this, that was a great feature of the Rev5 why leave it out? Also why no option to open a port on the back and slot in a SSD with your library on it, the Prime 4 has that option since launch? Honestly was waiting to see this but may just upgrade my Laptop and stick to my trusty DDJ1000 that still does way more than this. Damn.

For anyone upgrading to Pioneer. I did so with tne XDJ-XZ and the quality of the units are the best. Pioneer isnt a company that will innovate dj software or hadware anymore. What they will continue to do is match the bare minimum in terms of new features and maximum for quality. (While cutting costs because they all do)

Great Video, yeah they missed continuing with the lighting DMX wich is a really great feature. I wonder if it can be done via de DJ-Link on a seperate computer like with the A9 and CDJ's. Plus they should have put a second or even many DJ-Link ethernet plugs. One more thing I hope you can record your set within the unit or output a No-Mic mix via the cinch out. Cheers

I have the ddj rx, its a great piece of kit and im definitely skeptical about going to a 1000 or flx 10 considering the fx section is different. In my opinion the rx type of fx section is definitely better than the djm style

3 questions… 1 No stems yet? I guess no? 2 Does the 2nd usb port have the ability to record like on the RX3? I guess no? 3 is this suitable to take to a club to use with a void or function1 sound system or are all in one systems still a bit lacking in quality over a dedicated mixer like the 900 nexus 2 or the newer A9?

It took them a while, but they finally did it. Wish they would have kept us tuned in though. Wouldn't have bought an RX3 as an upgrade. (maybe I would have, the screen on the RX2 was killing me. It's still usable but that screen is nice). I really wanted an XZ but I bought the RX2 because I didn't want to have to use a laptop for 4 channels, and I still don't want to have to use a laptop for 4 channels. I want to just turn the players on and go. RX3 is a pretty nice controller, but if you have an RX2 it seriously isn't worth upgrading, unless you wanna deal with selling the RX2. I was afraid that AT/Pioneer wouldn't make a device like this and cannibalize sales from the Opus Quad. I'm so glad they aren't pushing us towards controllers that look like that. Opus quad is nice, but it ain't for me. Also being able to manage rekordbox libraries over wife on the device itself is a pretty good idea. I know it costs money for that service, but it might actually be a step in the right direction

Love the Beatjump buttons, the KeyShift and of course the new Display with possibility to set needleposition to left and the option to remove the FX section. Don't like removal of parallel phono/line inputs for 3+4 channels (I have still two Technics connected to XDJ-XZ in parallel to 3+4 decks). Also instead of adding a RETURN the SEND is now removed so using DJS as a real Sampler is not possible anymore. Still I don't see an option how to properly connect RMX 1000. Definitely a good unit it seems because those downs are probably not relevant to most people. But absolutely not understandable why they switched from PioneerDJ to AlphaTheta branding. This sounds like a total desaster for reputation. Future will tell.

Looks like you made it to the top of my AZ reviews first! To practice for clubs and have fun at home would you get this for £2700 or 2 x CDJ 3000s for £4300 and use your existing mixer (Xone 92 for me)? I could sell the Xone for a DJM-750MK2 later if I wanted all pioneer. Also can I use my 1210s with this unit as a timecode for decks 3 and 4? Can you control stems with eq or the pads when plugging into a laptop? Thanks

I have the XDJ-XZ and it works well with Serato stems, when support is added it will be same on this unit, I think Rekordbox stems still aren't that great

I am looking at the display and it doesn't seem to have the master deck element that is usually on the top of the screen, which sounds ridiculous when you want mix on 4 decks when you can only see 2 at times. Or am I wrong?

DAMN IT!!! Why does Alpha Theta segment their product line so hard?!?! Seriously Alpha Theta, you couldn't offer the couple of A9 features that caught everyone off guard in the AZ in a good way? Still forcing customers into an upgrade path instead of producing a unit that will satisfy almost all of your consumer base. Got to make money for you share holders I guess and that mentality will kill the brand eventually. Maybe not today but eventually it will happen, as people hate having that feeling of being taken advantage of monetarily when its known you could have done more for the money you are asking for........other than that, decent enough of an improvement that if you have an XZ like myself, you'll want to upgrade. But come on, seriously no Center Lock feature or Phantom Power for Condenser Mics? Also, lets not forget that Stems have been out for a while and they are still missing on this unit and you removed the Vinyl Adjust Knob which most DJ's use in some way during their performances even if it's just to end their set.

I have the XDJ XZ. Love it. Except I’ve noticed the beat matching software is inferior to CDJ3000. Specifically I notice that the ability to “zoom in” on the beat grid when doing a transition is much finer/more granular on CDJ3000. Can you share whether the touch screen on this shows this very fine zoom in similar to CDJ3000? Thanks!

That's 2 months wages will never be able to get one of those The big new thing is 4 channel standalone control? Denon Prime 4 could do that years ago- I feel that AB are going down the Apple route- holding back technology for users so they can sell it at an inflated price later- I have had the SC Live 4 with 4 channels standalone since 2022 so for me I just think it is over priced and late to the party- but I am curious to what Denon will do next.......

@crossfader any idea when they will start shipping? Also, I'd like to see if the same information is displayed in the browse menu when running rekordbox from a laptop. Currently on the xdj-xz the browse menu only displays song info when using USB Sticks. Which makes browsing on the xdj almost useless, unless you've preplanned a set in advance. Otherwise, I think a lot of the issues I have with my xz have been addressed. I'm glad they didn't add tons of gimmicky stuff. I assume it will be a while before we can get our hands on one. Oh and great video BTW.
