I grew up with those gnats, they are absolutely the spawn of Satan. :-)

When I hear Hell Gate, I think of Hell Gate we have in NYC. It's up on the East River (which is really an estuary between NY Harbor and the Long Island Sound. Since the harbor and sound tides don't match, the currents at some times will be very turbulent and can form whirlpools.

Yes! It’s interesting that there are multiple Hell Gates all around. Cheers

Nice job planning the high tide crossing. Remember when turning into wake to always look astern before turning.

Thanks Rebecca! Planning the tides really made our lives much more enjoyable 😁 Great advice, not an activity to get complacent on!

Thanks for another great video. Loved seeing the drone shots of the boat and the route traveled through Hell Gate. Keep up the great work. Jen-what type/color of nail polish are you wearing? Looks great. Thanks.

As a native of coastal Georgia, we’ve found Avon Skin+So-Soft lotion is effective at repelling gnats!

What Anchor alarm do you use? Chart plotter or what app? Or both?
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo 2 жыл бұрын
We use our Garmin Chart Plotter.... It's definitely not the best BUT its pretty simple to set up and will 100% go off if we drag. The part that we don't like is that it only will set the radius from where the boat is, not where you actually set the anchor. But it works well enough 😁

This is an old video so you may not see this but if you have a small freezer you can fill a dixie cup of water and freeze it and use it on bug bites and itches. It works so good!

Great video, I’m really enjoying your trip. What is your draft? What is your bridge clearance? Last question, what is the year make and length of your boat?
@SchoandJo

Thanks Randy! Pivot is a 1989 34' Marine Trader with a draft of 3.5ft and clearance of 17ft! If we drop our biminy we are more like 12 I think.

@@SchoandJo sorry, had replied using old business account. Would like to know which GPS you use, do you use a plotter? Depth sounder? And would you buy the same unit again or would you purchase the same one again?
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo 2 жыл бұрын
@@jeffballantyne5394 No worries! We use a very old Garmin Echomap DV GPS / plotter that has a depth sounder. It is old (installed before we purchased the boat) so I wouldn't recommend buying it but it does the job! We use those plus our iPad for navigation and it works. On our iPad we run Navionics and Aquamaps primarily and use the Garmin as a backup. With Signal K and NMEA 2000 its pretty neat whats possible now adays. A pretty sensible set up would be a vesper for GPS / AIS and then connecting a tablet to it for your chartplotter.
