Sixty years ago my father insisted that we walk across the bridge, but at that time there were spaces between each plank so you could look down into othe gorge to the river below. Thus began my lifetime fear of bridges.

Went on the mini-railroad, the incline car, drove across in my minivan and listened to a train go through the valley. They had just redone the suspension cables that made me feel no safer. The Million Dollar Hiway and Ouray stand in my mind as well. Black Canyon of the Gunnison had recently been named a National park, 1977, 1996, 1997, 2000.

I used to live in Canon City in the late nineties when the old frontier town still existed it had several old buildings then until the Hunt brothers bought it out and destroyed it. I did a lot of fishing in the Arkanas river, so many fond memories of how the City used to be. Thanks for a great video Adaam

13:37 that is called a "Yurt". They are portable tents originating in Mongolia and still used by their nomad herders today. I've seen the modern version (like in this video) throughout the Rockies, particularly some private farmland areas adjacent to Glacier National Park. The orange carts on the bridge are Kubota brand utility vehicles. Most run on diesel. We have a few at work.

Years ago there used to be a funicular ride that took you down into the Gorge. That was pretty cool to stand up and ride down like on a sideways type elevator. When we had a wildfire years ago, a lot of the buildings were destroyed at the Gorge and that ride was also destroyed. They’ve rebuilt them and now people can enjoy it again. So glad you are able to enjoy our beautiful state Be sure to drink lots of water. The altitude will get to you. Hoping you are planning to go to the actual South Park town on the way up to Breckenridge. 💖

@taeron2739 I'm pretty sure if you read the original comment and were a local, you'd realize they are also a local. A town with 20,000 people shouldn't have such gatekeepers weirdos like you. The slow paced og mineral excavating town mixed with fast paced tourism is what makes Canon cool. What's the issue? Lmao. "Locals only. I know more than you. You're wrong about canonical history." The dumbest gatekeeper bullshit. 😂 you don't want people to visit and appreciate the rockies. How pathetic. I lived in CO for a decade and am moving my fiancée back with me, I feel like you Judy hate the tourism which is what makes canon in modern times cool 😂😂😂😂😂 how sad. Won't be replying so have fun

A couple of older ladies were sitting just in front of us and one said "if this breaks loose and crashes i hope we go to Heaven" the other lady said " if this thing breaks loose we'll be heading the wrong way for that" The inclined railway took you all the way down to the river.

Love the RG Bridge. I've been on that mini-railroad and the incline car and the DRG Engine 499 was operating last time I was in Durango. I have video cassette proof at a raging 330 lines of crisp Zapruder resolution. There wasn't as much on the other side of the bridge except a turn around. You used to be able to drive your own car across by yourself!!! We were on the bridge during what we thought was an earthquake that turned out to be a train rolling through. The meshing on the side rails of the bridge is new as well. At one-point, Royal Gorge was one of the largest sources of bricks. You gotta do the Million Dollar HiWay and go to Ouray. Gondola and zip lining? I didn't this far by falling into the bottom of a 1,000 Ft (Empire State Bldg) Gorge, but I do have a Royal Gorge brick. Funny how your mind makes you feel safer when the ground rises up to 100 ft below the gondola even though you can die just as easily? Great video. Hi to the Fam.
