On the right, you can see the cost map generated by the robot in real time using only onboard sensing and compute. Magenta indicates lethal obstacles such as tree trunks, and contour lines show the robot's estimate of ground geometry. The cost map is projected onto satellite imagery for an observer's reference, but the robot is not using any advanced maps or imagery. The waypoints that define the mission are shown on the map as blue dots; between waypoints, the vehicle is making its own way, using roads when they allow it to make progress towards the goal.
