When I was in Jr High my family when to Seattle worlds fair in a Series IIA Land Rover we decided to go see Crater Lake. It was paved road with fresh powder. We were first to go up in morning. The snow was above the stock Rover bumper and stayed between the snow fence post every 40 yards. We stopped at lodge and totally surprised snow plow operator who spent the night. Nothing like your trip but pretty neat especially with the snow plow driver explicit remark. “How the heck did you get here this morning and don’t start down for 45 minutes.. it was still snowing

Snow, just as sand or any other backcountry terrain needs to be respected. You should always have the proper gear, knowledge and training or you can definitely die out there. With: 1. The proper gear 2. Preparation 3. A team of others, that you know and trust (if you're not experienced, you should not travel alone.) it's hands down one of the best and most enjoyable elements in which to adventure!

@@bsg2580, tire chains do nothing in the kind of snow in this video. Tire chains are fine for packed and slippery snow on maintained road surfaces, but are completely ineffective in deep powder. They would only serve to dig the vehicle in deeper and get it buried.

I really appreciate that you show you were able to do that with KO2s. Everyone bashes the KO2, but I feel like a lot of those people do not fully appreciate the driving skill to use them to their full potential. We ran them for years snow wheeling in our basic build offroad vehicle. Yes there are better tires for strictly snow wheeling rigs, but for an all round overlanding rig, the KO2 does a fantastic job in snow aired down, and driven properly.
@DirtLifestyle
@DirtLifestyle Жыл бұрын
The KO2 is the best snow tire in the US because of 1 main reason. Size. I've seen other snow specific tires that have better technology. Specifically, 3d siping. BUT at the end of the day, tire size matters... alot! Firestone makes a tire that has an unbelievable tread pattern, 3d siping, and other tech that I would love on my rigs. But the biggest size they make is a 35 in that tire 🤦‍♂️. I've tried a bunch of different tires in the snow, and I have found that the 39x13.5 r17 ko2 is the best because of the combination of size and a tight tread pattern. Everything else this size is too aggressive to hold onto snow. And everything with a better snow pattern is too small for our trails. But I'm hoping to see some more competition in the big a/t space 😁. Because when tire companies compete, we win.

We loved to do the same thing, go drive up one of the local mountains as soon as the snow started and go as far as we could. Suggestion: mount a light, but sturdy, plow V-blade on the front of the lead vehicle. Set the height of the bottom of it about two inches lower than the bottom of the lowest obstacle on the underside....bottom of the differentials. On the move, the blade will clear away any snow which could pile up underneath and high-center the machine. Clearance of the top of the snow with the blade would also prevent build-up in the steering gear as well. Just a thought !! Have more fun !!!!
