Magnificent. There's no-one, on any sailing channel, indeed any other channel at all, who is posting anything that quite hits home with me the way your stuff does, fellah ... long may it continue. I sit here, late at night, and I have tears of joy watching your journeys - you are the living embodiment of Hope. Keep on keeping on, my Viking friend. Much brotherly love to you, and to Silje too of course.

Erik, another excellent video and I'm glad to see you took care of some maintenance items before departing. Funny thing is, you and I have done similar repairs this year. I was having problems with my shifter and throttle Morse assembly too, and mine required me to take the levers apart, clean them of the old grease that had turned to like glue, then reinstall and make some adjustments. I have two levers: one for the transmission and the other for the throttle and when you would pull the transmission lever back, it also pulled the throttle lever back. Now it's fixed and works like new. I also installed a jam cleat system on the reefing hooks for the mainsail at the mast. Before, I had to put the hook in the sail, pull it down, and then tie it off on a cleat on the mast but now I pull it down and then pop the line into the jam cleat and it's done! I also need to look at replacing my mainsail traveler. It's 47 years old now. Works, but it's really stiff. You gave me a good idea of what to look for. I'm liking the new storm sail. You really need it and it's good that it hanks onto the staysail standing rigging, moving the center of effort closer to the boat's 'center of lateral resistance', which will reduce your 'weather helm'. I have something similar but it hanks onto the forestay because I don't have a staysail rig, and this sail is extra heavy dacron with wire reinforcing on the leech and luff. Bulletproof! I did crew on a Jason 35 staysail rigged sailboat for a few years and used it in heavy weather. Loved it! Glad to see Tiger is back on watch, keeping an eye out on you and Tessie! Say 'hello' to Silje too... BTW, I've done about 1000 miles sailing this year, which included 600 miles of off shore sailing a 46' Hunter sailboat from a little town here in SE Alaska, all the way to Port Townsend, Washington. I'll be working on my own video of this in the weeks ahead. Looking forward to the next video in the series to Greenland!

Hi Erik. I realy like to watch your adventures. Nice to see your improvements. And that of the boat. The only concern I have is that you walk around the deck without safetyline. Cool. Love the videos. Really useful information on the reefed foresail and storm sail. I've got a storm sail on my boat that I don't has ever been used. Now I know when to use it. The aluminum carabiner? If you haven't used them on your boat before, give the moving parts a spray of dry lube. When the gates get stiff and do not want to close, just work them back and forth and they'll soon return to operating normally. It's just a bit of salt and corrosion. I always have a some caribiners clipped to my PFD. They're very handy. (Barber Haulers) And of course they can be replaced with stainless steel if needed. I like the camera. I would like one higher up on my mast so I can see over and beyond my asymmetrical spinnaker. And great that it's stabilized with good magnification. I've got a pair of Fujinon stabilized 14 x 40 binoculars. They don't replace the 7 x 50s because they aren't much good at night. The stabilization and greater magnification has made them very useful many many times. They're much better than the Canon stabilized binocs. (these seem to fuzz out the image.) My only complaint is the battery contacts. They're a little weak so they can be bent just enough to break the contact. The other issue is no where do they say, hold them roughly level when pressing the stabilization button. Sometimes the stabilization doesn't turn on and you think they're broken. They're well worth these hassles.

Not sure about the use of carabiners, I think that soft shackles would be better and maybe good, old fashioned bowlines for the jib sheets. The biners are going to get salt encrusted, corroded and seize up and I don't think that they're designed for the shock loading that an offshore boat is going to put on them. I guess we'll find out... Thanks for the video, excellent as usual Erik.
@erikaanderaa3 ай бұрын
Thanks! Caribiners have been great for a couple of years, easy to clip on/off. Softshackles is a hazzle in bad weather on the bow, but ofcourse much more safe once they are fitted🙌

13:00 the lever is completely mounted on free air and bolts have barely few mm of off cut walls to bit to. Imho this is very dangerous and wont last. You should first completely fix the hole in hull and only then make new hole that is just the right size. Gas lever could easily get ripped of and drop inside the hull with full speed ahead or backwards applied. And leaving big gaping hole to inside hull for waves. Erik you must do that better.
