It absolutely cracked me up when Kieran’s slingshot broke and he goes ‘here Momma, fix it’ fully confident in Mom’s ability to do so. Of course, his faith in Mom is a huge compliment! I’m sending best wishes for your passage. I worry about how exposed the helm station is - that single aspect of your boat would’ve been a deal breaker for me. I would’ve had to have had a more enclosed and protected helm station located in the cockpit.

Yes - it would be very near the top of my list of things I’d look for if I ever switched boats. That said, I find it to be more of an issue on short trips - in and out of anchorages with lots of stuff going on than I do on longer passages. Mom is actually more naturally handy than Dad…

New subscriber. If you're not familiar with Sailing Zatara on YT they have alot of videos of their experience with their Privilege 585 and how they dealt with issues, etc. Good resource. Happy pacific crossing

The kids look like they are having fun so far. Maybe if Kieran starts to get bored let him stand an half hour watch during the day. He would just need to watch the weather, radar, and direction with Mom or Dad close if needed. It is to bad about the shark Would have been nice to see you reel in a big fish for this crossing.

I enjoy watching your videos and you are a great family but why are you rushing it so much? You are missing out on so many great places and now you even ignored Galapagos one of the most unique places in the world. I'm sure you would have loved it, especially the kids. What's the purpose of your trip when you miss out on some many things along the way?

Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching! I’d respond a couple ways… 1) we would have loved to visit the Galapagos, but they’re getting harder and harder to do from a bureaucracy and budget perspective for a cruising sailboat. Fewer boats, including us, are choosing to make the stop even though it was right on the way. 2) everyday spent somewhere is a day not spent somewhere else and its a big world with lots of places to see. We’ll do our best to see a lot of them but we only have so much time and will certainly miss lots of great places. That said, would we have spent a few weeks in the Galapagos where it not for point #1? Absolutely.

@mattexploring1184 Check out the COST of going to the Galapagos by boat and the bureaucracy of doing so. Making statements like yours clearly shows that you have little idea what's involved with cruising. Also, many places are more restricted for Americans than other people. Interesting, that.
