A great episode which shows why I think you are the best sailing channel on youtube. You manage to capture the essense of sailing, especially the long crossings. You give the sailing content the necessary space and the right timing, as this kind of sailing isn't fast paced action. On top of that, great music. A lot of your tracks are now amongst my favorites in my playlists. Of course, it doesn't hurt a bit that your Outremer 55 is one of the nicest catamarans on the market :)

We always fly the asymmetrical spinnaker off the bow eye on the one hull never with the tack in the centre. We fly it on a 1,5m line with a tylaska shackle that you can release on the line to the tack. This floats better especially at deep angles. When we fly the spinnaker like this we run the autopilot on compass not wind angle. When we left Namibia 2 years ago we flew the Asymmetrical spinnaker from 2 days out all the way to St Helena. There were times near midnight the apparent wind was too low to keep it flying so we would sock the sail and motor for a few hours then at about 5 am it was good enough to raise again. We left St Helena on the Asymmetrical spinnaker again all the way to Fernando de Noronha. My favourite sail for sure

We’re on our way to Recife right now and the A2 is up since the beginning. With wind shifts of 50 degrees we prefer putting the autopilot on wind angle. On lower angles the boat seems to perform better with the tack more to the middle. On 160 like we’re doing this night it’s more to the windward bow

Very good video. 👍👍😀😀😘😘 is it an option to reef the mainsail or take it down altogether when you fly the spinnaker?? You would get more pressure and stability in the spinnaker and even a better course stability

We had a Wingaker on the Lagoon. On a cat it doesn’t bring any added value in our opinion and normal spinnakers are half the price

@Stalefish6 gunboat is way out of our league but we would be interested in a successor of the 5X if there would be one. As long as we can still sail her double handed…

213 mi/day? WOW. What was the average speed at night?
@CatGreatcircle
@CatGreatcircle 6 ай бұрын
When there is not too much wind or a lot of wind the speed during the night is the same as we will use the same sails. Only in variable winds or winds close to the edge we will change to a conservative configuration before dark.
