Those top 2 grooves are also rings. They are stuck in. Apply some torch heat and little taps all around and they will free up.

When I was tuning and prepping Kart engines I used waste petroil from the last race meeting to wash off any engine before I worked on it, And get everything absolutely clean before I re-assembled. When I got into vintage motorbikes, same applied. Clean the external cack off before you strip anything, then do whats needed engineering wise, clean again, re-assemble. And clean the bloody bench between processes!

Great video, fascinating to see in the compressor.
@MICMARKMAC24 күн бұрын
Adam I believe this to be a compressor for the old style heavy big helmet divers rig. This motor would of been on a boat. The open bottom end with an oiler is to keep the oil content low in the compressed air. Those rings are more for oil control not so much air pressure. The plug ontop of the exhaust valve is to oil the valve.
@trisrush915524 күн бұрын
It’s not, it’s a starting compressor for charging air start bottles.

I spotted a bolt and a phillips head screw while you were lapping the inlet valve. I wonder if they got sucked in or some vandal put them there?

Interesting to see how that compressor works
@danmeads769424 күн бұрын
That plug on the second valve housing is to allow access to the slot in the end of the stem for lapping the valve in.
@pennyfarthingman24 күн бұрын
Is that a broken stud trapped under the inlet valve? Also those 2 more sets of rings need to free up. They are in pairs to seal better for higher pressure
@robmk324 күн бұрын
100% a stud in there below the valve.

If you get a thick piece of plate glass that is perfectly flat you could use grinding compound and rub the head on it in a circular motion, that's what I always used before I was disabled.

You are very lucky that all that foreign material ( stud , screws , etc ) did not damage the Valve and Valve seat . The Big question is how did it get there . Also the Valve thread has had a big knock it's bent .

Great vid , looks like its been sabotaged by dropping nails and junk in there to damage the valve seat .Looking forward to the next installment, stay grey 👍💨💨

Yeah it kinda looks that way. Like you say lucky it didn't get drawn in. It all looks good tho. Can't wait to get this done. 😀

Put the piston in the ultrasonic for a bit
@hogdigerdy24 күн бұрын
i,m guessing it has 2 rings at the bottom of the piston which overlap to make a good seal on the bore as its a compressor (in a combustion bore it would have oil control rings at the bottom)
@joesangalli88224 күн бұрын
It has 6 rings. 2 in each groove. The top 2 are stuck in the groove.
@terryraymond798424 күн бұрын
Im not bored
@lennewton818423 күн бұрын
If I were you I would soak the piston in some diesel, just the crown as I think the two top grooves are rings.

Adam,now that you have got your engine hoist sorted,why don't you give your knees a break and lift your engines onto a heavy duty bench or stands, outside, and work comfortably, you are going to need you knees when you get old😂
@Herbybandit24 күн бұрын
Nails and stuff in that valve gallery stinks of children! 😂 you know what their like, if they've got a handful of stuff they'll drop it into an interesting hole! Adam, that bearing carrier on the end of the crank you took off first, it's got 6 holes, 4 larger fixing bolt holes and the other two, top and bottom, should be threaded so you can put a fixing bolt in each and jack the carrier out so you've no need to lever it off. Those four top rings on the piston might come free with a bit of heat, but please don't be tempted to use a pick or anything metal to pry the loose.
