Here are my thoughts on Crossroads of Twilight! My least favourite of the series so far, but there was still a lot to unpack and discuss. No spoilers in the comments for anything past this book, please 😊

Shaidar Haran isn't really the Dark One, but he also kind of is. He's an avatar of the Dark One, kinda. Like an evil Jesus, maybe.

I always say that "slog" is subjective. I've seen reviews that like the slower parts of the series. After my, maybe 5th reread (maybe I should say re-listen), I find an appreciation for even this book. But I mostly just see it as a part of the last book and the next book. I love your take on the book and I can't wait until you've completed the series 😁👍

Definitely subjective! I truly believe that some really interesting things still happened in this book, it was just a lack of wrapping up arcs, and more of a continuation between books 9 and 11 like you said. I’m sure it works into the overall story 😊

I just finished this book the other week and I agree with your rating. It was a (somewhat generous) 2/5 stars for me. This is, though, really the only WoT book that felt like a true slog to me. Apparently, regarding the prologues, somebody told me that Jordan would release the prologues before the rest of the book, so the fact that they are so substantial is due to that. Like it was a trailer of sorts for the book. I've done exactly zero legwork in corroborating that assertion, but it *feels* right

It's so funny looking back, I forgot that I gave this book 2 stars, but I'm glad I did because it is truly the weakest of the series haha! Also, that prologue thing makes sense to me, even though I still sorta wish he would split them up into chapters 😂

I cant remember exactly when certain halima things were revealed but i will say her introduction is worth rereading as it may answer a lot of your questions and theories on the topic just to refresh your memory :)

Yes I think this is a very good idea tbh! I remember when she was introduced knowing that suspicious things were happening, just not the specifics 😂

@@GraceDionneReads Yeh from what I recall its actually pretty clearly stated who she is its just that much of a gap between when that person was introduced that you barely remember :P

I've read CoT 4 times, and every time I reread, I'm surprised by how much good stuff happens. I do certainly remember it as the worst single volume, but it's actually not really a single, complete volume, anyway. At a certain point, WoT just turns into one long book (probably book 5, but it doesn't start to wear on most readers under book 7 or 8). CoT is definitely a total failure as its own book, but it's perfectly fine as *part* of a book.

I completely agree here, I don’t think I’ll have any issue with how these events fit into the larger story, but god I wish RJ had found more of a way to make CoT impactful by itself 😅 on eventual re-read, at least I will have the whole picture to look at, and appreciate what we are working towards!

Just finished CoT… book 10… mama didn’t raise a quitter🤦🏽‍♂️. My biggest issue with this whole series so far is that 3 girls can basically FaceTime in their dreams, but it seems no one knows what the others are doing. 4 more books to go

I tried several times to read the first volume and I got a certain vibe from it - something that made me reject it. (Weird.) I haven't given up on this series entirely - I still hope I'll be able to connect harmoniously with it at some point. Not now, though. I've recently finished Malice and now I'm halfway through Traitor's Blade. Looking forward to reading Ship of Magic afterwards.

Ultimately it’s a long haul to commit yourself to, so if it doesn’t work for you that’s alright 😊 but always worth another try if you think you’d feel differently upon re-read! You have some great books ahead either way

First Wheel of Time book I was actively not enjoying reading for a good portion of it. Things were at a snails pace and I really thought there would be more focus on the fallout from the end of Winters Heart but there wasn’t any. I also think on book 10 having Rand only in it for around 50-60 pages tops shouldn’t be happening. Earlier books maybe but not this late in the game. Hopefully the slog is behind us and it’s smooth sailing now.

Yep I totally agree about waiting for the fallout from Winter’s Heart! It was a surprise that the events of this book were happening concurrently and not afterwards. I really hope the slog is behind us though 😊

If you're confused about Halima, you need to look back at the resurrection of the two Forsaken.

This book almost made me drop the series. Nocap, I lost my love of the people of the Two Rivers, after so many other people boring story are shown.

2 Stars? Harsh. At least you made it through the so-called slog and are still enjoying it overall. Keep going, big payoff with the Sanderson ending. Be well, stay safe.

Haha perhaps a bit harsh but I do still have faith in the series overall, and I can only see my enjoyment increasing again from here!
