I loaded up my Crosstrek with my camping gear, brought along my Lab Bea, and headed down to Parker Canyon Lake to try out my new Luno Life signature mattress. We had a great afternoon and night hiking, taking pictures and chilling by the fire before going to sleep for the night. All in all it was a great night and mattress lived up to my expectations for it. Easy set up, tear down, adjustment, transport, fit, and build quality. You can't ask for more than that. Those foamy anti fatigue mats that click together like a puzzle piece at the dollar store work great to level out the hump. Throw them in the spare tire wheel well when not using.

Great video Rick! It's always a pleasure watching them. The integration of the technology you use: maps, drone shots, photos and video footage at ground level is awesome. You have worked out lots of the bugs for many people who may want to sleep overnight in their Crosstrek, even arranging for a discount with the suppliers of the mattress! Very cool! I must say that I was surprised that Subaru didn't engineer a fully flat bed arrangement into the design when the rear seats are folded down but your use of the plywood to increase the height seems to pretty much resolve that issue. I hope that you and Bea enjoyed the overnight trip together. The lake area looked very pleasant, the sunset was lovely... and I'm sure that the coffee tasted great in the morning!!! CFDU, Martin

Thank you Martin! You are too kind. We had a great trip and Bea was so tired the next day. When you come and visit some day we can go down so you can see it in person. :) Along with all of the other good stuff around here. Too bad you can't bring your Crosstrek with you on the plane, but you can drive mine as much as you like and finish off with a drive up Mount Lemmon in the 911!

Beautiful scenery Rick! Looks like you were by yourself except your pooch. Nice way to address the uneven floor with the plywood! Did you have your morning coffee? You need to modify a Keurig coffee machine to plug into your cigarette lighter!

I have a Volkswagen T3 Transporter Double Cab, which I bought with the idea of using as a leisure vehicle for camping trips. The elevated driving position is good for sight-seeing and the load bed is completely flat with no wheel arch intrusions at all. It measures 1,880mm long (74 inches or a tad over 6 ft) by 1,735mm wide (68 inches or 5.6 ft wide). Furthermore, it has an under-floor storage compartment that measures 1,650mm X 650mm (65 X 25.6 inches). The vehicle came with three foam mattresses, but they were covered in vinyl and not very nice. So a new mattress is something that's been on my mind for a while too, but it will be foam rather than air and fabric covered. At least there are no issues with uneven heights other than longitudinal wooden strips on the floor, easily dealt with. So my plan was to fill the strips between the wooden strips with high-density foam rubber and that's what I would have used in the Crosstrek rather than plywood. It's lighter and you can just roll it up.

Thank you. To be honest It has been so long that I am not sure of the exact dimensions of the board, but it is made out of 3/4 ply and I used the cargo mat back there as a template to cut it out.

So what do you do with all of the other camping gear you take with you when the mattress is inflated taking up the interior of the car? Cooking stuff, food, dog stuff?

On my recent camp out I put my box of cooking stuff on the roof of the car and some stuff under it. That is definitely a consideration if you have a good amount of stuff with you!

Rick, another great, informative video. This is a better option than roof top tents in my opinion. Totally off this subject: I have a 2018 crosstrek purchased July 2018( 28K+ mileage already). I have one complaint, rattling in the eye site housing. This was replaced a month after purchase but the rattling has resumed intermittently. Are you familiar with problem?
