My camper setup is complete and I'm so excited to get out and use it! If you're looking for a fun way to explore right now I highly recommend this - you don't need all of the extra accessories to get out and have a good time either. If you do want the extra accessories, I'm really loving all of the things I talked about in this video. Except I may need a heavier blanket heading into fall... 🥶 thanks for watching!

It's taken me about 10 years to collect all the camp gear that I own, purely becuase I just can't afford to buy the expensive equipment all at once. Blessings that you were able to have all of this on your first go-around at a campsite. It's not always about the gadgets, so if you're watching this and feel discouraged cause ya can't afford a $300 awning, just remember that $10 tarps and rope get the job done. Use what you have, and get out in nature!!!!

I've been camping in my vehicle(s) for years. Couple of items you really don't need. A wooden platform. It is just cumbersome and must be dragged out when you need to use your SUV for 'normal' everyday activities. Just use a 12" thick or less memory foam cut to size of SUV for your bed, light weight easy in easy out. Add blankets All that cooking stuff is to much bother, pack cold food or use a fire pit for cooking. Bring a small iron grid. Showering can be done in a campgrounds, or I use two buckets one to wash in one to rinse in. I carry 3 gallons of water, replenish/refill when ever possible (I've never run out). I also carry a Life Straw for drinking out of streams, lakes, etc. Electronics I use a solar power mat or simply power Up/recharge when I am driving. Lot of the items are a huge waste of space and you most likely will find them a bother in the woods. The item that made my camping so much nicer was window screens and the magnetic sunroof screen. Inexpensive on Amazon. Hardest part is a bathroom, a portable bathroom would be great. I'm female - 64 years old and have traveled across America 4 times now, just my dog and I. It is the greatest time of my life! Never ever had any issues (with humans or animals). I've put about 350,000 miles on my vehicles traveling. Happy camping everybody!

A hot water bottle for cold nights is a total game-changer. I heat up my water just before bed and tuck it into my sleeping bag so it's super cozy when I get in. Stays warm through the morning. I reuse the water several times over, so it doesn't draw on your water supply. Plus, they're inexpensive!

I'm going for my second camping trip in my Toyota Highlander next week. Am "shopping" my house for items and only buying a few things. My mattress is cushions from the porch furniture with a memory foam topper of one of my twin beds. It was sooo comfy and cozy for sleeping, like being in a warm, dry cocoon. Spent $38 dollars for reflectix and black duct tape (Weathertech wanted $195 for the set). Got a "wine bottle" Coleman cooler off of Amazon for $35 since she is right about the dimensions fitting well on the floor. I am very excited to try this lifestyle. At 69 years old, I'm ready for adventures.

Allison here is a tip for you , reference sleeping in comfortable heat during colder months. I presume you have heard of MERINO sheep ? Now their wool is so versatile that if you buy a king size double blanket, place it below you and above you and your night will be glorious and warm - maybe even too warm? But they are expensive and I purchased mine via Amazon here in the UK - so by all means try one out and see what you think. Nice set up which I am going to copy, once travel restrictions in Scotland are lifted.

Absolutely one of the best SUV camping builds I’ve seen. The design thinking and simple but effective solutions have led you to almost a minimalist camper, which is pretty rare. Most builds look like the vehicle is making a trip to a storage unit. Very nice. You’re likely aware, but they make a pressurized shower system that attaches to your roof rack - or you could make one fairly easily out of PVC. Just a thought if you decide you want more water on hand without giving up any interior space. You’ve probably already seen them. Very nice storytelling on the video too. Straight forward, direct, yet still conversational. Great job all around. You def earned my sub.

I live in my van and it's the best thing I ever did. Mines an old Chrysler town and country but with the stow and go seat folded into the floor it gives me plenty of space. I know this is a promotion for Jackery, but there are so many cheaper alternatives that are just as good. I have three solar generators - smaller that the 1000, but produce about 700 wh, and I bought them all for a total of 310 dollars. It pays to shop around.

Pretty sure everything she uses and shows on the vid is a promo for the product. Nothing seems to be a product she already owned and everything seems to be chosen ONLY for it's promotional value. No clever little cheap alternatives, or living in a car tips and tricks. Allison is skilled with her presentations of the products and very good with directions to the stores where products can be purchased; so good on her for creating a video that's informative for anyone who is looking for tips on what they might want or need for their own lifestyles.

I do ;) I'm an avid (but cheap) camper but also work in the outdoor industry. For car camping I pack all our cooking and misc gear into a plastic tub we got at Target for $12. Our cooler and stove both are under $70 from Coleman and are very easy to pack away, one bought at REI and the other at our local big store (Fred Meyer/Kroger, but I've seen it at Walmart and Costco too) store's outdoor section. You can DIY an awning with tarp and paracord, the Adjustable Tarp Pole from REI, or some trekking poles. GoalZero makes powerbanks for decent prices (and you can easily find them on Amazon from other more affordable brands), but I personally don't believe in powering shit up while camping unless it's my phone or camera battery, which I can charge in my car anyways. The base would be pretty easy to set up, you just need some plywood boards. The brands Coghlan's, Outdoor Products, and GearAid are VERY affordable and easily accessible, they make great odds and ends like tarps, safety equipment, gear repair, etc. For comfort, I have ALWAYS (and this is coming from someone who camps a dozen times a year) stuffed my coat and extra clothes into my sleeping bag stuff sack as a pillow, I lay my sleeping pads (one is the Therm-A-Rest Z Lite and the other is a self-inflating Coleman one, both are $50) down on the ground and use a sleeping bag for extra warmth on top, then pile whatever blankets on top. I normally use Rumpl's too, but I definitely paid NOWHERE near $200 for either of mine. You can find privacy tents on Amazon for less than $100.

See you out there. I’m now converting my Toyota Highlander. I ordered an iKamper mini, a rooftop tent so I can use the interior for a Dometic cfx95 cooler, clothes, food, Jackery 1000+2 solar panels, etc. I’m almost there. My goal is to be on the road by October and be gone until spring of 2022. Once I have the portable mobile router/WiFi etc. done, then I’m ready to go.

@@josephinebustos8074 may I ask you a question? What was the reaction of your family/friends/tribe or anyone else in your life to your plan? I made the mistake of mentioning to my people and immediately got negative feedback. I have never been more excited to do anything in my life and it really really wounded me that they were so incredibly unsupportive.

@@wenderella81 my only child’s reaction was concerned about COVID. Other than that, they all understand why I want to do this. Besides, even if none of them are supportive, I’m doing it regardless. It’s my life, my money buying all these so I don’t care. I didn’t need their permission, I simply informed.

I appreciate you being a role model! I'm a Seattleite, and I'm just getting my 2021 Honda HR-V accessorized for weekend trips to the Olympics also! (Explored the Quinalt River two weekends ago, but I stayed in a hotel for the weekend while I get geared up.) Also, as an apartment dweller my biggest frustration is finding a rooftop box flat enough to fit into most downtown parking garages.

Cool video Allison. I like it. Just one thing I would like to point out. The wood legs that holds your bed seems to be very thin and may damage your back seats of your car. I would recomend you to cover then with some soft rubber coat or something that gives a soft pressure in order to have a soft support on your back seats, or make the legs wider so the weight can be distributed throught more area of your back seats . If not when you sleep on top, these woods legs are very thin and giving a lot of presure into a small area of your back seats can damagen them Great video

Amazing set up! I've never gone camping like this and I'm hoping to try it soon. I have a lot of things to figure out and your set up is a great model for me. The only thing I would do different is to get an electric cooler. If you have a regular cooler, including the fancy Yeti, it means you don't plan on being there more than one day or so. You could probably power the electric cooler and all your electronics for a day with that 1k power station. Thank you so much for the video. Cheers!

The first time I started watching this I was a little put off by all the product pitches. But now I really appreciate them! I’ve counted the cost of some DIY and it’s not really saving much, if anything. Especially if I calculate labor and other non material expenses involved. A smaller Jackery and a solar panel are on my list. The full sunshade kit is tempting too. A bit pricy ( around $140 for my vehicle) but I have to ask myself ‘do I really want to make those?’. I’ve camped in my car enough to appreciate how much of a positive difference it makes to have things fit neatly and install quickly. Condensation is the one thing holding me back on that one. I use window slip screens for the time being. Ventilation plus darkening.

I totally agree with raiding ones house, being creative & inventive to build your own micro car camper setup. Reality, she has at least a couple thousand $ in new equipment. With long term use, she’ll discover that 1/2 of it doesn’t work well for SERIOUS camping or auto living. (Hmm, must be nice to be GIVEN a top of the line Jackery & who knows what else!....She’s working the system for free gear & $$$.)
