My grandmother was Blackfoot Cherokee, she would tell us stories of how the crow served the Great Spirit and would transport souls to their destinations after their human life died. She would say sometimes crows would lend their bodies to good souls to visit loved ones before their journey . I'd say your young one was blessed by a elder of your family who's passed.
