We sold our house a little over a year ago and the first thing we did was de-clutter. It takes time to go through your stuff and either donate, trash, or sell but it is the most important thing to do when you put your house up for sale. De-cluttering makes it a lot easier to move, too. Now I am trying to KEEP our new home clutter free, simply because it is so nice and relaxing to have a place for everything and everything in its place.

Oh dear,I wouldn't dream of selling a house in that condition. This owner is totally blind !! She may love that green and pink but honestly....it's quite yuk !! Great improvement 👌

As someone who recently bought a house, I really appreciated the houses I looked at that didn't have the owners' personal clutter everywhere. I spent maybe 2 minutes in those houses. The one I bought I knew was "the house" the second I walked in the door. The family of 5 was still living here (they were NOT here for the showing) but they had packed up or put away all their personal items, so the house was very tidy and clean with minimal furnishings. Even the closets and drawers had been organized to emphasize their usefulness. I know they put a lot of effort into making it look like a space anyone would want to live in. And it paid off! We saw the house and put an offer on it the same morning it went on the market because I knew it wasn't going to last. So decluttering has got to be rule number one when selling a house! (Especially in a case like this when they should have already been half packed since they were moving anyway?! Sheesh.) Also, remove all personal photos because those houses made me feel like I was intruding which made me uncomfortable. So there's definitely a psychology to staging houses that sell fast!
