@@kenn1936 Awhile ago, I knew a man who had a super-weird house, too, not finished and hardly livable, as his "ongoing project" .... As a project in "progress" for 25 years or more. Eventually, his old mother plucked up the courage for the hip-replacement, and she was her 80s already. Her operation was a success, and she could walk again soon. The first thing she did was to visit her son, of course. But when she came, he would not be opening the front door for her!!!! The old lady was standing outdoors in the chill, dumbfounded. I was puzzled, too, because I was there as a cleaner, coming and going twice a week. I asked "Why don't you let her in?!" Yet he was reluctant to explain. Some time later, the mother tried to pay the visit to her son again. It was a weekend, and the man knew that his mother would be coming, and he asked me to clean the house again. To clean is one thing; but how to disguise its semi-broken semi-empty deteriorated uglysome condition? Anyway, the mother came, she could walk very well, and she went upstairs looking sad and quiet. And she then said in disbelief, "Oh, he has not quite finished it yet..." Bah, in 30 years, as a single man, with a good-paying full-time job! Unbelievable!! I wish his aging mother had not seen that ugliness and had not been upset by what she saw. By the way, his mother had a small restaurant in the 1970s, and then she sold her business and decided to buy her son a separate house in a very good location, and the son moved in, and ... and... Heaven knows what he has been doing with his life once he moved there. He was already in his 50s, and still planning and planning to someday finish the house... So stupid and sad.

We just sold our custom, beautiful home that was spotless. We wanted to cut our mortgage way down so we bought an 11 year old home a couple of months ago. It was grubby. The bathrooms were gross. I about gagged when I cleaned out the garbage disposal. It took me 6 hours just to scrub the entryway and front hall. The bathrooms are now clean and look like new. I don't know how anyone could have lived in such a dirty house. What's sad is that the owner had probably "cleaned" it before putting it on the market. She did have it staged nicely, though, which covered up a multitude of sins. It's been satisfying to make the house shine. We took out the filthy carpet that was even in the master bathroom--gross!--and put new flooring in and will be painting the interior. We had the worn cabinets professionally painted white and they look like new. Not everyone can stomach doing what I've done, but if you can, you can buy a diamond in the rough.

In my hometown $429,000 would buy a MacMansion with close to 2700 square feet, attached garage and possibly a pool. It must be difficult for young families to afford their first house. The homeowner knew a television company would be coming to film. She, therefore, should have done some basic cleaning. Before she boxed the items and placed them on the truck, she should have washed all the items to avoid taking anything unhygienic to her knew home. By decluttering, there would be much less to transport. Hopefully, her new home is better maintained.

BIGGER MISTAKE . Do not sell your house because moving to a boyfriend house looks a good choice. If for some reason the " relationship " didn't work. She's going to end with NO BOYFRIEND. NO HOUSE NO MONEY. Just clean and update your house and RENTING.

It amazes me people have such little insight into what sells and what people hate and the piles of junk don’t sell a house as a dream home, also getting rid of rodents requires trapping them not just decluttering and they do have an odour that people will detect

Do you really need an 'expert' to advise why this house isn't selling. Pure common sense tells you why. How easy is Ms Allsopps job. Im English and have worked in the estate agency world for 22 years. A well presented clean house always sells fast. When selling think how you would like to walk in and view a property. You don't view show home in a mess, so why present your own that way. Just common sense!

I can`t imagine how she could stand the mice running in and out of her house, and even on the dining room table, iiik! Does she not know that mice have no bladder, they pee ALL the time - on everything they walk on, and they spread an awful lot of germs that can give you all kinds of diseases.... and with the kids running around in the mouse pee... awful!

They get in through the narrowest opening as we. We live in the country and a recent run of warm winters (Ireland) mean there are rodents everywhere. Discovered the mice were getting in through a 2cm crack around the washing machine pipe to the drain. Neighbours were coming in under the back door, they can creep in through a 1cm space with ease. Cats solve the problem with lots of peppermint oil sprays which they loathe. Unoccupied house is just begging for them to take up residence, but she should have noticed.

If the mice have no place to hide they don't spread. Her "storage room" is nothing more than a glorified dumpster where mice can prosper.

tbh the kids rooms are so easy to fix though!! If they want to draw. Hell if they HAVE to draw on a wall. 1 tester can of chalk paint. bucket of chalk. and a good sized square of their bedroom wall. BAM built-in drawing board

I’m going to pass on watching this video, due to the rodent infestation, talk about a dangerous way to live. OMG! Encephalitis which causes major brain damage can be caused by mice droppings. (I had a friend who got the disease, and her neurologist told her that the encephalitis was likely caused by mouse droppings or their turtle. And her house was clean! In this case the encephalitis did major brain damage and nearly killed my friend.)
