to be fair to NBC, they did have a huge news story to react to. Now that I have been fair to them, how in the world does the same network that screwed up the Heidi Game make this decision here knowing that they would be done in a half hour. Push the newscast. This isn't 1994 when you had to be in the same slot every time to see news. Everyone who wanted your analysis of the Biden decision either 1) had already seen it on social media, 2) would have waited the 15 minutes it took to finish the race (which could have led to an opportunity to hook new fans), or both. 1. Nascar officiating needs an overhaul. Too many inconsistent decisions, it changes every week, identical things happen but get called differently each race, even the drivers today couldn’t keep up with the rules nascar enforces, leading to frustrating outcomes as viewers. And unfortunately the calls trend towards the similar drivers and teams which is a whole different topic 2. Really sad how all the hype behind the first Brickyard 400 in years was marred by skipping the pre race for "breaking news" Gray area blend line violations, which sounds like teams weren't told what they couldn't do, then slapped on the wrist for it, and Larson was skirting on the same thing and probably barely went on to the surface, and a rule that you can't pass the leader before the restart line unless you think youre the leader or unless you're the 5, cutting the race on NBC short due to "breaking news" again which in my region was just an buildup to the olympics infomercial, for a solid lap, just black coverage, half the screen not working when transitioning to USA, and the postponed caution till Larson got the white. So quick it went from an amazing fuel saving finish to controversy. I still wish the see the Brickyard again next year but NBC should be utterly embarrassed by the extreme poor quality of their broadcast this week. Larson definitely deserved to win, it would have been nice for him to legitimately win. After this week, NASCAR can no longer deflect the Larson/Hendrick favoritism allegations.

I have a crazy idea...A Cup Series double-header event in Indianapolis. What if the Cup Series raced under the lights at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park on Friday night and then raced at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday. This would showcase the drivers' talent and the car's versatility going from the short track to the 2.5 mile track. Have a special $1 million prize for any driver that wins both races. This also allows NASCAR to have another Cup race without adding a weekend.

If you watch the Hocevar incident from the start finish line, you’ll see that he didn’t shoot the middle, he held his line, and the car inside of him shot under him pushing 3-wide down the straightaway. Then Blaney crowds down from the outside.

I think for me, as a definitely biased Blaney fan, is that I would like to see some consistency. The Keselowski deal was just some unfortunate unlucky stuff, but the caution being held until the white flag was thrown was the straw that broke the camels back. It really does not help the Hendrick conspiracies and how Nascar is turning into the WWE narrative. Let's not forget that it wasn't very long ago when a caution was thrown as Blaney crossed the finish line of race. That one turned out good in the end for Blaney fans, but all I ask for is some consistency.

Man. This was a tough race. It was cool at first as Truex fans seeing him pass 27 cars to get into the top 10, but then he wrecked and bummed us severely, and then maybe Brad was gonna win, but the caution came out with Busch wrecking when he was gonna have a good day, and to top it off NBC decided to cut away with 3 laps to go. And finally, Nascar making a TERRIBLE call not throwing the caution. Geesh! A hard race to end the week on before we go to Olympic break.😬

Data shows Larson did not jump the start, it looked worse because he had a bit of momentum built from moving up a lane, but they fired off at the same time. In a normal start he probably would have been called for hanging back and rolling the start, but circumstances as they were worked out great for him and he got an advantageous rolling start.

The Preece spin was a "damned if you do/Damned if you don't" situation for the NASCAR officials. If they throw the yellow when Preece stalled out, we get at least one more Green-White-Checkers and hopefully it ends without caution. Honestly i think they took the lesser of 2 evils, the drivers now are more aggressive then ever and during overtime the "driver's code" goes out the door and people are driving over each other and that breeds cautions.

Eric, you are so correct about the drama-making of NASCAR's restarts. Watching the F1 race earlier in the day and then viewing the NASCAR race is frustrating, with commercials at the worst times, followed by the three-hour hour broadcasts, then races with the lack of competitive passing throughout the field, to watch single-file racing for stages to end with repeated restarts. Grovy-gauge is 30% It's becoming hard to love NASCAR's NBC commercial-based broadcast with the left side of the screen showing the field suddenly displaying a commercial about some product. I'm scheduled to see an F1 race in person and may end my viewing of NASCAR races on television and attend races in person at the tracks with excellent viewing sightlines.

My takes on a lot of things from this race: I think there's nothing wrong with the oval. It's the car that's the major issue with this track, but it's honestly always been kind of lackluster no matter what car they use because it's not really a "stock car" track. But we have mediocre, one lane/no passing tracks elsewhere. I hope we can keep to the oval because, while the road course is okay (it was getting better with time), we also have enough options for road courses now, and I (and most of the drivers themselves) would rather see NASCAR on the "crown jewel" oval track. I hate how inconsistent NASCAR is with the yellow flag... It feels like 99% of the time you see a yellow as soon as someone wiggles a little out of line (there's been a few exceptions this season alone), but as soon as "overtime" starts, who knows what will happen! I think we've had full blown wrecks in the back go green for longer than they should have (granted, NASCAR usually does throw a yellow before it gets too dangerous). Today was way too far... Yes, it was only a single car spin, but he hit the wall and was barely moving/flat out stopped on track for at least a minute or so and almost to the point where the field had came back around to where he was stranded... Elton Sawyer was interviewed on NASCAR's KZbin and asked if this would have been different earlier in the race, and to sum it up said "it's a case by case basis." There shouldn't be any "case by case" when it comes to this, and NASCAR needs to be consistent throughout the race, either throwing a yellow as soon as something happens, or wait and see (but not this long...) if it's a minor/not dangerous incident. As for Kyle Larson winning and if NASCAR was pulling a "favoritism" card here...I honestly don't think the result would have been any different if it stayed green with how the racing was (hard to pass, one lane, etc.). If there was a yellow before they took the white, then maybe, and I still think they should have. I would have hated to see another "Nashville" overtime mess, but, again, that last yellow was held back too long... But I am happy for Kyle Larson and getting redemption for missing out on the double earlier this year. Now....ugh...NBC...what the heck were you doing??? I had to switch to the radio broadcast for that whole last overtime drama just so they could switch to (at least for me) "local news coverage due to the earlier breaking news" or some nonsense... I get it, the current president suddenly dropping out of the race is big news, and I think NBC at least did a decent job of getting back to the race before it started when the story broke, but I don't get why that meant they had to cut the NBC coverage short... I heard west coast viewers had paid programing to fill in after they switched... There were some other issues that caught me off guard as well, like the blackout near the end of the race, and also some missed calls during the race with little to no info on what happened... A notable example was Chris Buescher losing tires apparently multiple times to fall back a couple laps, then an explanation like 10+ laps later after briefly showing his smoking car once earlier to say "we're not sure what's happening to his tires." Yes, this is a lot to say, and a lot to take in as well... I did enjoy the race (I'd say 7 out of 10 mostly). I thought there were a lot of good moments (even in one lane racing), and was really was excited to see how it ended with the fuel strategy. Unfortunately, a lot of nonsense just made this return to a "crown jewel" leaving a bitter taste in my mouth...
@jokool_aid2 ай бұрын
LOL I completely forgot to add the "restart" (edit: and the blend line...) controversy in all this. So much once again in the last few laps of a race... I'm honestly starting to hate overtime outright and kind of wish we were back to just end at scheduled distance.

To be honest guys, I really don’t think the Preece accident was going to impact the rest of the drivers due to it being a one car incident under the racing line far way from start/finish. The Kyle Busch accident was closer to the restart with cars closer to it, just trying to understand NASCAR’s logic (if there is any). That’s why they let them race to the white to avoid 10 restarts again. Once they got close, the caution came out, seems logical to me…
