Your vandas and their roots look amazing. Good job. Would love to know what fertilizer you use and regimen you follow. I use cinnamon and peroxide. Thanks

everyone has their own way. Some people use cinnamon, some dragon's blood, some Physan. Cinnamon is the easiest way for most people to deal with rot because most people have it on hand.

Dude, I love your channel! Do you work in a nursery? Tell us your story and how you got into Vanda’s? How often do you water, all your roots are so green. I’m guessing you’re in Florida and it’s hot as hell. Can’t wait to hear more about your methods of caring for your orchids.

Awesome videos. Thanks for sharing. Cinnamon is anti bacterial. My great grandmother used it for Phals.too. Thanks and I subscribed!

Thanks for the video! Mine doesn't have crown rot, but I am new to the Vanda variety and have been trying to do research on how to help my dying baby. I've had a couple phals for maybe 5 or 6 years now, and a vanilla for 2. So not terribly new to orchids, but I am still learning a lot. Do you have any video's on saving a nearly rootless vanda? It lost almost all it's roots when I first got it a few month ago (didn't know what I was getting into) now it has 2. 1 fat one which is mostly brown with a quarter inch of green on the tip and brown green close to the plant. And the other one is 100% brown, but still feels firm like it is trying to hold on.

Would you be so kind as to permit me to pose a question regarding why no video has been published since the one? Yes, your methods might not work out for all orchids, gor they are so individual; but your video are amazing, so are Vandas.

Hey Stu. Thanks for the crown rot tip. How do you handle pests -- spider mites in particular? Found a few crawling around on one of my vandas. Doesn't look like anything serious yet. I hear that diluted dish soap in a pump sprayer does the trick, and others use diluted horticulture oil or use rubbing alcohol with a cotton swab on the leaves. Anyways, clearly you're managing pests pretty well over there. What's your strategy?

I bought a V. Coerulea Alba in November 2019 and plant was adult plant that had bloomed before but had crown rot. I used cinnamon powder. It’s all dried but I lost a few top leaves and looks like roots are starting to grow at where leaves were. But no growth from crown yet. I wish I could show a picture. Will leaves ever start to how out crown again? Thanks for your help

Stewart, quick question- if a root is mushy near the plant, but a beautiful green further down the root, should it be removed or is it still supplying nutrients through the green portion? Thanks! Hope your 4th was memorable!

And, have you ever used Dragons Blood to cure crown rot? Miss Orchid girl suggested using it for crown rot on one of her Vandas. I use cinnamon as you did in this case. What are your thoughts on using dragons blood?

I saved my Coerulea that way, but first I poured peroxide in to the top, dried it Real good then put on cinnamon, and keep the top very dry! do you think the peroxide was not necessary ? could you do a video on how you are going to save that kieki on the bottom of that Vanda you just pulled to top leave out of? Thank you

For me hydrogen peroxide 10% pure on top rot & relocating the plant to an airy location is so effective in arresting crown rot
@mainlyvandas214
@mainlyvandas214 5 жыл бұрын
I will just let it grow normally until mature enough to separate. Peroxide is good to use for this as well, but i have found cinnamon to be more effective. Peroxide can be used on new plants before putting into your collection also :)

Why do you think this would be controversial? It’s the standard procedure for most growers AFAIK. Although some ppl use Dragons Blood resin.

Well, unfortunately there are people out there that instead of actually trying to do this themselves and seeing that it does in fact work well, they bash it and condone its use. Oh well lol

I am wondering if either the Hydrogen peroxide or the cinnamon can be used preventatively? or only after evidence of crown rot is showing?
@mainlyvandas214
@mainlyvandas214 5 жыл бұрын
I dont use it preventatively for this issue. I use.regular fungicides. I will post a video on that soon!
