Mouson connects perfectly with Tyner , Lawrence is great and even greater when you consider he is only 21 here, and Booth plays beautifully. A creative peak indeed

To me this is McCoy Tyner at his peak, I saw him and his band at the Keystone Korner in S.F. the year after this and was mesmerized. He had the ability to surround himself with amazing talent and inspire them. What a great musician...awesome.

Such a great moment to get immersed in this phenomenal trance 'saw this band with Eric Gravatt on drums ,Sonny Fortune and Joe Ford and Guillherme Franco on percussion at the Village Vanguard in.N.Y. And several times at EL Mocambo in Toronto 75-76. Trane' s spirit was there. Mc Coy was second to none. Sad today this vibe is lost.

Yes, yes, yes ... spirits talks in Walk spirit, talk spirit. Beautiful composition, beautiful memories ... I heard this excelent group with same program at Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb, Croatia in my youth as student (it's 50 years! I can't believe.). Later same evening was at the same stage great Argentinian saxophonist Gato Barbieri, also at peak of his powers. Barbieri was very known and popular, but public was almost shocked with Tyner's (emotionaly strong and direct) music and young musicians (so good they were) - brilliant Azar Lawrence on sax, Joony Booth on bass and Alphonse Mouzon on drums. It was one of best ever concerts in my life and expirience is still very strong, unforgettable. This group and program are also well documented on double live album "Enlightenment" (Milestone records) from Montreux jazz festival (including Walk spirit, talk spirit). In my opinion was this Tyner's best group as leader. ... It was a special evening 🤩 and very special night. Returning from concert from Zagreb to Ljubljana i met on the train beautiful young girl 😍(she was also on concert), which is still my loving wife today! Happy me 😋! Regards from Slovenia! This is great powerful music that I first heard and saw on the TV in '74, and the four of them impressed me so much! Mouzon became one of my very favourites, together with Eric Gravatt and Stu Martin, a flow of effortless energy, not many drummers know him and even less try to play in that direction. Great move crownpropeller, thanks a lot!!!

This is amazing. I bought the album soon after it came out and it is still near or at the top of my all-time favorites. While McCoy was the draw for me, I have always thought Alphonse Mouzon's drumming here to be some of the best I have ever heard. His playing with McCoy for me is the tightest keyboard and drum playing I know of. Thank you so much for posting these!

They are so close together. One of the best jazz quartets I ever heard. Azar Lawrence age 21(!) , Juni Booth and Alphonse Mouzon age 25 ! I listened to the Combo two years later at the german Jazzclub domicile but Alphonse Mouzon was replaced by Wilby Fletcher and Guillerme Franco. Two for one but at this night they didn´t create the spirit of this fantastic Moutreux concert.

Tyner became more sophisticated and toned down over the next 15 years or so but the sheer energy and vitality of his playing during his youth was breathtaking. I saw him in Northern California at a concert at Humboldt State University back in 1976, I think it was. The acoustics were not so good but Tyner was incredible as always.

I fell in love as soon as I heard him with Miles. For me that was over 50 years ago, and my husband and I had a chance to catch Tyner about 15 years ago. He was certainly quite on in age, but so so mellow that we were both lulled to sleep like children being sung to! Sounds crazy but true. It was absolutely, positivity hypnotic, and we weren't the only ones in the audience. We talked with others afterwards, and they shared similar experiences during the show.

@@marcibolton5718 I saw Tyner again at the Vine Street Bar and Grill on Hollywood Boulevaard in the late 1980s. We got to sit very close. At that time he was both polished and energetic and it sounded like more than 1 instrument. There may never be another pianist who could generate such a powerful sound.
