I've taken the SAT 3 times. The most frustrating part about the SAT is that unless you're at an advanced level in math or above the "normal" level for your grade, there's a high chance you won't understand or even recognize over 50% of the material and questions. The first time I took it I barely understood a lot of the math on it because I wasn't even completely through Algebra 2. Long story short I hate standardized testing and I feel as though a lot of kids are set up for failure T_T. I'm lucky I got to take it multiple times this year since I understand most of the math now.
@cj27083 жыл бұрын
If everyone can get full marks easily then whats the point of standarized testing?
@leah24073 жыл бұрын
@@cj2708 I'm not saying it should be easy. I'm saying it should be doable. It's understandable if you use the knowledge you have and apply it to something new that you may recognize but not understand. It's different when you have no idea what you're looking at or what certain things mean. There's definitely ways to prepare for the SAT but you're not prepared to do math you've never even heard of.

For #15, instead of the work in red, look for a combination that multiplies to 15 & adds to 8. If you can do the work in red, most likely you understand the straightforward concept. You can immediately get a=3 & b=5 or a=5 & b=3. Save yourself 1-2 minutes! For #17, once you set up the problem, please recognize that 1400 is twice 700. Values on left are 2 times the corresponding values on the right. Alternate on #20 is dividing both sides by square root of 2. You get 10 = square root of x. One less step.

great walk-through of the sat, one thing id like to say is that for #10 the only thing happening with x in the equation is that it is being squared. since 4^2 and (-4)^2 are the same value, we don't need to solve for a and we immediately know that the result of g(4) would be the same as g(-4), therefore it is 8. just a way to save a minute or 2

for number 10 there is a faster way to solve it. you can plug in the equation g(x)= g(-x). and if this is true then the equation would be reflected off the y-axis, thus giving the same y value. Or you can see that the equation is a parabola and 4 and -4 would have the same value
@n1waii2 жыл бұрын
nice thinking. that saves a good bit of time. the way i thought of was realizing x was power to an even number meaning that the result would be positive even when raising a negative.

Really, and this goes for all sections of the SAT test, you just need the knowledge. That’s what the SAT is testing; do you have the knowledge, do you know the formulas, do you know how to solve these problems? As long as you know a great deal of math formulas and principals (like functions or systems of equations), then you’ll be fine.

Is there science in sat ?
@MrJonathan20053 жыл бұрын
So easy. The last one you should say x≥0 and then when you square things up you should say |2x|=200 or |x|=100 or x= ±100 and you would reject the negative answer as x≥0. I think this is a more formal way of resolving the exercise.

I should mention that problem 10 has a trick that would allow one to get the answer without much calculation. g(x)=ax^2+24 is an even function. Graphically, this means g(x), when reflected over the y-axis, is the same graph. In function notation, this fact is represented as g(x)=g(-x) for all x. g(4)=8 g(-4)=g(4)=8. There is no need to find the value of a in this particular instance.
@alexia.vachhani3 жыл бұрын
Does this apply everytime? How can I tell if a function is even?
@vlogtomejr.19193 жыл бұрын
@@alexia.vachhani No, the shortcut I exploited is only applicable for problem 10. The technique shown in the video is a general procedure for any problem of similar type. I answered your question regarding determining the evenness of a function in my original response, but I will answer it formally anyway. A function f is even if and only if f(x)=f(-x) for all x. For example, suppose f(x) = x^2 - 4. f(x) = x^2 - 4 and f(-x) = (-x)^2 - 4 = x^2 - 4. f(x) = f(-x) ∴ f is an even function. As another example, suppose f(x) = 1/x. f(x) = 1/x and f(-x) = 1/(-x) = -(1/x) f(x) ≠ f(-x) ∴ f is not an even function.

Because it tells you that g(4)=8 and 4 is in place of x. g(4) is g(x) where 4 is the place of x so you know to plug in 4 for the equation.

All the very best to everybody who’s giving it :) I wish you pass with flying colours... PS: Ig the competition is tougher than the actual paper... Do Correct me if I’m wrong. Also, do questions repeat in SAT in papers of different years?
@angellllalex3 жыл бұрын
yeah the questions are all very similar in each test from different years
@exoticcats6119 Жыл бұрын
This is two years later, so I hope this at least helps some people in the future. The questions should be pretty similar every year. The competition for college can be pretty tough, and the price is definitely expensive. And this is just a standardized test because the schools themselves can vary greatly. You could be taking a class like AP Calc BC, but it’s not a required class and you won’t see anything crazy on the SAT.
