Күн бұрын

Driving west on the Crowsnest Highway #3 from Pincher Creek Alberta, Canada we will explore some of the locations in the beautiful Crowsnest Pass region.
Located in the southern end of the Canadian Rockies, the Crowsnest Pass is one of the richest historic and prehistoric regions of Alberta.
In 1981 one of the best preserved Tyrannosaurus Rex skulls nicknamed Black Beauty was found.
The oldest evidence of humans are stone tools found on a rock ridge outside Frank from the Clovis culture, dating to 11,000 years ago.
Settlement began in the 1880's with the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
The main economic activity of the area was the mining of coal both for the railway and other markets.
By the 1980's the coal mines had all shut down and now the area has turned more towards tourism.

This concludes all of the content from my trip to the Crowsnest Pass in the summer of 2020. Some locations have been visited in full in previous videos and there are also some new locations but this ties the main highlights together so I hope this will be of help if you ever visit the area. There are other nice stops in the area but this should help give you a start on your adventure. If you have a favorite location in the area that I may have missed let me know. Thanks everyone!

Thanks 👍 It is a beautiful area but what a tragic past also. The tree they say is the most photographed in Canada. The wind toppled it over in the 90s and unfortunately some vandals cut a branch off in 2004 but it was reattached. Good to see they take care of it after all these years.

Thanks for sharing fascinating history from your parts together with beautiful footage. I enjoyed this. Those roads looked very inviting for a road trip. 😉 I'm from a mining town in Norway myself. Kongsberg is the only town in Norway with silver mines. The official history of the town and mines started in 1624. But there has been some kind of activity since 15th century, maybe earlier. It is a fascinating and dramatic history.

Well, that was an informative video of a culmination of history in your area. From this and past videos it was evident that coal mining was a vital source of income. What a horrible job that had to be. In parts of Pennsylvania, where some of my family resides, they strip mine for coal instead of mines. Thanks for the history lesson.
@ExploringwithWade
@ExploringwithWade 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Coal mining was a big part of the economy in this area for sure up until the late 1970's when mining was shut down in this part of the rocky mountains due to new policies. Unfortunately now we have companies coming in to this area that want to start surface mining. There has been lots of talk over the past while because people are upset and trying to put a stop to it and bring back these policies before they destroy this land.
@DavidLorenzoFlorida
@DavidLorenzoFlorida 3 жыл бұрын
@@ExploringwithWade I agree. Strip mining in Pennsylvania scarred large areas of land unless the companies did their due diligence and put everything back the way it was prior. And, that includes planting trees.
