Very good review of what in my opinion is 1 of the best cb/10m radios on the market! What got my attention was the noise reduction which is a fantastic feature and really works in reducing or eliminating the crud from modern day noise.

Fully agree! I've compared them to by FT-857 and FT-891 and they actually perform (receive) better on 10/11m than the Yaesu! The noise reduction is excellent and I've been blown away by the audio quality in general. Some great gear for both CB and Ham operators at a sensible price.

@@mostlypostie1 Mate, I've done the same trick with the IC-7300 as well and come to the conclusion that this radio AT-5555N2 in my case is every bit as good on the 11m as the 7300 on the receive sensitivity and sound quality. Sure, there's a lot more adjustments available to absolutely fine tune and tailor the sound on the 7300, but for a cb and the price you just can't complain. I was that impressed with this wireless, I purchased a second unit and that was on top of already having the AT-6666. And that is a great wireless too.

Very happy with my new 7900! I have only one thing that irritates me, and thats the volume adjustment. Its not possible to get a smooth stop to the volume when you turn the volume down. On "Volume 1" on the display theres no sound in the speaker, and when you go to "Volume 2" on the display the level is a bit to high in quiet surroundings. Is that adjustable some how? No big issue really but i thought i would ask. Thanks from Sweden/ Jan 21JL66.

Just bought this radio, as u said it's an absolute beauty of a radio, only thing that goes against it for me is that those rubber/gel like button could've been illuminated, had it in the car last night and ye can't see a thing unfortunately, also as with a lot of the new radios, would've been nice to have a selection of colours, not really a fan of the Orange but apart from that I can't complain, puts out good power for what it is

I have the original 7900 and I love it, only thing I'd moan about is the channel selector skips every half-dozen channels and S-meter reads S5 from home (where all other radios read flat) . Apart from that it's stable, sound good and has the -100 repeater shift for NY repeater. Well worth the dough.

Great video. FYI - Note that Anytone will provide firmware updates to users if needed, CRT will generally not.
@Transmission1 Жыл бұрын
That's true as CRT have a policy of not releasing firmware updates to the general public. That could be a deciding factor for anyone wondering which version to purchase although if you've purchased the 2023 from CRT with the 5KHz step it's unlikely that much else will be done with the firmware at this stage.

Coverage starts at 24.715 MHz when fully expanded so yes it can do the 12m band. They are such a good radio for the price. Maybe not the most fancy looking set but very functional and great audio out of the box. One of things I've been really impressed with is the stablily of radio - mine has never drifted off frequency which is more than can be said for some other radios that are really aimed at the CB radio market. For want of sounding a bit thick. I would like to have a go at CB as well as HAM radio. I got my UK M7 cert late last year and wondered if the SSB with these radios requires a license to go on air. I notice that the power output can be way above what is allowed with a M7 foundation at 10W. I am assuming I'm missing something here but would appreciate the guidance. By the way great video.

Great video Simon, best I’ve seen on this particular radio. Have you since established whether last years model can have a firmware upgrade to allow for the 5k step? I’m finding I really need a 5kc step in the mobile as theres just as many operators QSY’ing to the zero’s now as opposed to the fives, and this or the Yeticom optima ticks the boxes, but I don’t have the budget for a brand new radio for the car. Alternatively are you aware of any other 10/11 multi modes with 5kc steps? Thanks again. 108TM163
@Transmission1 Жыл бұрын
Sadly CRT seems to have a policy of not releasing firmware updates to the general public or making them available for download. As the radio is made by Anytone and it's parent company, it may be possible to flash the unit with the firmware from the 5555N II but nobody seems to know right now and not even sure if any firmware has been released for this radio either. There is also the risk that it could brick the radio by flashing an unofficial version. The Yeticom optima was discontinued quite a few years ago now but was the first good attempt at bringing 5KHz steps to similar radio to the magnum 257. It seems like Qixiang finally understand the needs of radio operators so hopefully going forward all new models with have the 5 KHz step!
@GG-im1cb Жыл бұрын
@@Transmission1 yeah we’ll wait and see. They are nice radios, however they are still quite chunky for the mobile, so hopefully they release the same tuning steps into this years 9900’s and that would be a better option for the car. 👍🏻

I'm puzzled. The one I bought end of last year as well as the one I bought in 2016 are much simpler - push the selector dial to select the digit you want to step through, then dial through it. That way I can dial in 1 kHz steps.
