Very infotmative review.... When you do the comparison reviews please throw Rogueware into the mix as they seem to be a lot cheaper than other brands. I run a Rogueware m.2 and the K100 keyboard without any issues

I appreciated the video but I am puzzled by one thing: there is no discussion of the disparate scores between the two models (P3 vs. P5) I'm looking that the random read/write scores at 6:14 minutes and, unless I am seriously missing something, the P3 outshone P5 in almost every category. The P3's minimum was 1834MB/sec vs. 546MB/sec for the P5. That's 332% higher than the P5 Similarly, the P3's maximum was 2944MB/sec vs. 2244MB/sec for the P5 . That's 31% better than the P5 The P3's average speed was 2830MB/sec compared to 2034MB/sec for the P5 . Here again, the P3 is is 39% faster Again, I am possibly missing something; please enlighten me. One would think that the P5's performance ought to be better than that of the P3; something on the order of 25% better. considering that it is about 25% more expensive. But that doesn't appear to be true here. Again, please tell me what I'm missing. Thanks for the time and energy you spent making this video.

Hey Thank you for this :) So your observations are 100% correct. However the issue is something that I did by mistake in the P3 had a fresh install and the P5 was on a saturated system. I think I did mention this in one of the videos but I should have highlighted it again. However even with the performance difference (even if the numbers were evenly correct) the P5 is a better buy purely because of its Dram. The P5 has dram and the P3 does not. Alot of reviewers are going on about dram being pointless which is misinformation. Dram increases the speed when the drive is saturated. Also one thing that's forgotten is the dram increases the life of the drive. To explain in an analogy, the P3 in these test was an empty Nissan vs the P5 was a BMW that had more passengers. The Nissan out accelerated the BMW because of the unfair weight. The BMW will be better in top speed eventually and it will go further. This is why benchmarks can sometimes be misleading. If you look at my video on the T700 it kills everything, but when it was tested in real world it was on part with the best PCIe4. It is my fault for not giving the P5 the same environment as the P3 and for that I apologize

Does its 1 TB version have the same TWB value of 1200TB?...Also is its temperature on the good side in a laptop while playing games of extraction files around 100gb?
@WootDini
@WootDini 11 ай бұрын
Hey. I'll have to check specs but a higher capacity generally means more TBW. And temps will be fine. Just make sure it's got some form of heat sync or if you don't have a heat sync don't mount above GPU as the radiant heat artificially increases the heat

Don't try to use them to back up any big data. Those things overheat so badly, it's almost impossible to use them. I've always been a Crucial fan, but pretty much not anymore. All they've done is blame my machines, my equipment and, my knowledge. 😠😠😠 I finally had to put them in some ASUS Tuf enclosures, but that's really overkill for anything. That's 146 g of metal heat sink there!! Which is a hell of a lot more than anything Crucial sells as a heat sink. And guess what? They still fail all the goddamn time, when used in even a really good enclosure. Once you start trying to back up like 700 gb, they're going to fail, either because of the heat, or they'll just randomly fail. 👎👎👎

Great review; the NM 790's are speedy drives for sure - I've got some in my NAS along with P3 Plus's (2x NM790 4tb's, 2x P3 Plus 4tb's). Both drives seem to be doing well to date, without complaints. One thing that has concerned me - which consumers may not have thought about - is potential for data corruption courtesy of HMB. While I'm not entirely up-to-speed on the finer details of HMB, I guess one concern is if someone is running these nvme's in a system with overclocked ram (ie. anything outside JEDEC specs... like our XMP profiles), then there's chance for RAM instability/corruption to occur with regards to writing/reading of the L2P (logical to physical) table and FWB (fast write buffer) for the HMB. This is something that seems far less likely with JEDEC spec DRAM on-board (ie. 2133MT DDR4 is pretty easy stuff to "get right" these days). Now, companies like Phison (who make controllers for many DRAM and DRAM-less drives), suggest they have ways to combat things like data corruption due to system memory; power loss etc. via their proprietary firmware. If I had to guess, they would write *multiple* copies of the L2P table and FWB to system RAM (ie. at least duplicate; possibly triplicate), then do a compare (parity check) prior to writing the data to the NAND. If any bits are wrong in the parity check; it probably repeats the copy process (or relies on the 2 bits that are the same to be the "true" values).
@WootDini
@WootDini 10 ай бұрын
Heya thanks for the in depth reply :) I'm not a fan of HMB currently because it over works an SSD. But OC on ram always runs a risk for corruption but that is standard and can even happen on base. The best practice right now is utilizing the best components for intended use. What raid settings do you have on these drives? That would be my main concern for the setup

Depending on the system you are testing in, there could be situations where the P3 Plus could out perform the P5 Plus, if you have a new higher end PC with DDR 5 say 6000 plus, the Dramless SSDs using HMB can actually have an advantage over the slower dd4 used for cache. If the rest of the drive is capable you can get some great results like WD Black SN770, beating out the SN850x in some tests. Not every situation will be great but it makes you think will HMB be preferred soon or will DDR 5 start being used, even gen 5 drives use 4GB of DDR 4 so not sure if it s the amount or the speed that has the biggest effect on performance.
@WootDini
@WootDini 10 ай бұрын
Heya :) Really nice comment. DDR5 will be adopted in a year or so. But the issue with HMB is they are sporadic gains. They are very unpredictable and it requires specific testing. So you can in a lab prove the worth of HMB BUT: the issue sits on lifecycle. Dram maps a drive better always so the node switch is not as frequent as HMB, as soon as you turn off your PC , HMB maps disappear and has to remap on boot, it puts unnecessary cycles on the flash which lessens it's life. The argument can be made for both, but for me dram is still superior

Talk more about channels available for use by the drive. Q?: Will this Gen 4 Drive operate at competitive Gen 3 speeds. (The board and the drive are compatible.)
@WootDini
@WootDini 10 ай бұрын
Heya 100% it's just sometimes difficult to answer all the questions :) Gen 4 and gen 3 are interfaces limited by the cpu and motherboard. They are all backwards and forward compatible. So gen4 drive will work on gen 3 motherboard but the speed will be limited to the speed of gen 3 (if the SSD is faster than gen 3 max)
