The dark lord only losing a third of his health unless he’s vulnerable makes a lot of sense, I figured that he took much less damage unless he was attacking since I was testing weapons that bypassed his shield and he barely took any damage, you can destroyer blade the very top of him any time during the fight but it barely scratches him. The same animations for the modified monsters reminds me a lot of how with custom monsters in zdoom can inherit all the code from a parent monster and allow you to add only the code that makes it different, which saves a lot of time and space when it's something simple like a Stone Imp (or its custom bestiary constituent the Soul Harvester, especially in its pre-667 update) for example

Have you noticed you keep consuming blood punch charges when you use the crucible? It happened on the screecher and on the dark lord summons. You only took note of it for the cursed prowler.

@@BloodShot9001 They had probably added extra code to make sure that doesn't happen with the DH sled but haven't added it for new enemies just like they didn't add code to make sure the glory kill highlight thing doesn't turn on. It seems that glory kill and blood punch have their code tied together and as you surmised the crucible is also coded as the glory kill.

Hot take: It would have been an even better twist for the Dark Lord fight if you gave up your hammer for a new crucible. Instead of having a flashing eyes segment, you have to dodge his attacks and hit him, but rather than insta glory kill him, it does damage against his suit in chunks. Do enough, and then you do a glory kill. The arena is flooded with Crucible charges that respawn, but the Dark Lord still has his shield up first. So you use your guns to whittle his shield down till he casts it aside, allowing you to melee fight him. Sorta like the Khan Maykr. This would have made the fight a lot more interesting.

It's not the same model for the armored baron! if you play it at 0.25 speed you can see it starts off with his armor on and it gets destroyed mid animation once he's been cut in two, at least in that first instance :)

If you take out the crucible in the room in Cultist Base where there's all the guys that just sit there, you can see the same glory kill highlight (at least last time I checked you could)

A shame they didn't intend to have the crucible in the normal game, even as an extra. It could have a nice option to spice things up. For instance, the screecher could have been set as insta-killable with the crucible without releasing its buff to other demons, and the armored Baron could have required two pipes, 1 for armor and the 2nd for the kill, kind of like a Doom Hunter.

That would be more interesting fight with Dark lord. Slayer drop super shotgun on the ground counted as all weapons. And then he takes crucible to hands to have just melee fight with Dark lord, just being able to use flamebench and grenades. They could add some cool mechanic to the crucible to not being just as one swing weapon, maybe shield with shield bash on alternative fire button and an special attack while in the air, also hold fire button to charge stronger attack or send wave similar to charged destroyers blade. And crucible just do some damage to Dark lord not instantly eating full health bar. Or jusrt making the hammer similar to crucible but doing just some good damage with area of effect. Instead of slam stun and a lot of armor and health drop.

The crucible works on stone imps and cursed prowlers probably because they might show up in a future master level. Like how the specter whiplash is in super gore nest master level, even if you dont have ancient gods 1 or 2.

I think the cursed prowler steaking your blood punch kinda further reveals that blood punches use the same system as glory kills, chainsaws, and crucibles, which is probably why they fail so often and feels really unnecesary imo- I hindle the blood punch in my classic doom mod just like any other projectile, activating if it hits something and doing nothing if it doesn't, and it works way better

Well that kinda is how it works. When you melee you game checks if you hit something, and then what it should do based on what you have. If you miss do nothing. If you you hit push the demon. If you hit and have a blood punch then use blood punch. If you hit and the demon is staggered, do a glory kill. The problem is not the ability, its the way it targets things.

how were you able to keep the sword through all the levels I could only keep it on the first world spear opening level then I ran into some trouble with the tutorials since you cannot switch them off it starts them with no weapon available and you have to run a cheat engine just to default back to the hammer at that point boom no more crucible!?

Also can you Unbind one of the buttons and use designate it for the crucible and still Get the Hammer possibly? I mean will the game allow you to do this if there is two spots for the bind I noticed that crucible is in the binding cmds and it made me think that perhaps one could actually un bind like say the down on the d-pad or even a keybord button for instance in order to have the normal button for the hammer and still KEEP the Crucible or would it just change both to the hammer I will attempt this as well wish me luck!

It's neat to see how the crucible is basically just a glorified…Glory Kill, and how the reused parts of the new demons react weirdly to it. Also, I see this involves a console command; I keep thinking that back in Doom 2016, using console commands at all would permanently flag your save files as "cheated" and it apparently was impossible to get rid of that once it flagged it. Does Doom Eternal do anything like that when a console command is used?
