What about the blatant plot hole about the police thinking that they killed Martin in a “shootout” that literally makes no sense whatsoever, they wouldn’t of just entered the house firing bullets all over the place, they would of entered the basement and seen his corpse on the floor, and he was dead overnight, the pathologist would of known that instantly, plus the bullet would of matched his gun, pretty lazy writing that just got blown under the carpet
@KG-ql5qn
@KG-ql5qn 2 жыл бұрын
@@step9624 also and this might be a director issue, but there’s a scene when Jeanette is talking to her dad in the kitchen and there are so many pauses between their dialogue that it doesn’t flow and sounds really bad. Also with the plot hole I think she said the media, specifically, assumed he died in a shootout, but wouldn’t the truth come out eventually?

Depends, i guess, on the context. If you're a late riser and still in school, you're going to be woken up by your parents pretty frequently. As for boyfriends, i dunno about that one. I binged this show in 3 days and honestly I really enjoyed it. The format where it jumps around but manages not to give away any of the major plot points until the very end was well done and **SPOILERS** The plotwists of finding out Kate wasn't actually locked in the basement for most of her time and he wasn't outright abusive until much much later into her disappearance, and then it makes you think no one was lying because Mallory was really the one who saw her only to turn around and show you that Jeanette really did know Kate was locked up there and said nothing just... Whew. I love a good twist and a double back. Fantastic.

Then when Kate finds out it was Mallory she's like "well of course you didn't know I was a kidnap victim chilling in the living room on my phone loool, no big deal".

Coming from someone who usually hate teen dramas, Cruel Summer is actually good. They do a great job juxtaposing the circumstances between the 3 years and how much each character's life had changed. They avoid cringey teenage melodrama and make the characters feel like real people. It's well acted + edited, and the hair/makeup is really effective in showing how the teenagers' personal style changed over the years. However, I think the show could be trimmed down as there's quite a bit of filler, and it's unclear if those scenes will actually have a pay off in the end.

@@MattViviani I do not think Jeanette, a girl who wanted Kate to like her so badly, a girl who desperately tried talking to Kate after her rescue to clear up allegations (that desperation did not seem born out of fear), would not go to the police if she saw her in that basement. She would have been Kate's hero and hopefully her friend. Besides, Kate said that she made eye contact with Jeanette while she was running away from Martin's house, but the placement of the basement windows would make that impossible unless Jeanette laid on the ground. Both girls have shown to be dishonest though when speaking to the police. Jeanette has lied about going to his house more than once, and Kate did not disclose that she went to his house willingly that night (I'm not excusing that she was still held captive and kidnapped internally & placed in the basement. She is 100% the victim here).

Even if Janette saw the girl, she was 15, she could've been threatened, could've been scared. Maybe had some twisted way of coping with the issue by "stealing" that girl's life, maybe tried to justify it in her head that she was doing the girl a service. I don't know! She's a child too!

I just finished this and the whole time I thought “Jeanette is such a creep and a liar!” Nothing changes the fact that once she found out Kate went missing, she changed her look, became friends with Kate’s friends, and started dating Kate’s boyfriend. The post credit scene confirms Jeanette was always a creep.

The acting can be a bit teen drama at certain moments, but the story, plot device and majority of performances across 3 timeliness have been really enjoyable and interesting. I'd definitely recommend it.

this show is actually really quite good. the three year storytelling per episode, the way they alternate POVs to create this mystery, the acting has all been excellent. also the way they set up the kate and martin storyline little by little. anyway if you saw episode 2 you'd see the point was to ask who is telling the truth - kate or jeanette, and i think that, and the thriller elements really make it the show to watch right now
