Surprisingly this was probably the most well written shows I’ve seen in a while, you can tell the writers put effort and attention to detail into every inch of the story tying up every plot thread, even for scenes that they probably could’ve ignored.
@step96243 жыл бұрын
What about the blatant plot hole about the police thinking that they killed Martin in a “shootout” that literally makes no sense whatsoever, they wouldn’t of just entered the house firing bullets all over the place, they would of entered the basement and seen his corpse on the floor, and he was dead overnight, the pathologist would of known that instantly, plus the bullet would of matched his gun, pretty lazy writing that just got blown under the carpet
@KG-ql5qn3 жыл бұрын
@@step9624 also and this might be a director issue, but there’s a scene when Jeanette is talking to her dad in the kitchen and there are so many pauses between their dialogue that it doesn’t flow and sounds really bad. I binged this show in 3 days and honestly I really enjoyed it. The format where it jumps around but manages not to give away any of the major plot points until the very end was well done and **SPOILERS** The plotwists of finding out Kate wasn't actually locked in the basement for most of her time and he wasn't outright abusive until much much later into her disappearance, and then it makes you think no one was lying because Mallory was really the one who saw her only to turn around and show you that Jeanette really did know Kate was locked up there and said nothing just... Whew. I love a good twist and a double back. Fantastic.

Coming from someone who usually hate teen dramas, Cruel Summer is actually good. They do a great job juxtaposing the circumstances between the 3 years and how much each character's life had changed. They avoid cringey teenage melodrama and make the characters feel like real people. It's well acted + edited, and the hair/makeup is really effective in showing how the teenagers' personal style changed over the years. However, I think the show could be trimmed down as there's quite a bit of filler, and it's unclear if those scenes will actually have a pay off in the end.

The only thing that bugs me is that the whole premise of the show is that Kate reckons Janette saw her in the living room on the phone (not the basement) while Kate stood there in the dark with all the lights off and Janette was way out on the street also in the dark - and Kate decides to name Janette on live TV for it. Then when Kate finds out it was Mallory she's like "well of course you didn't know I was a kidnap victim chilling in the living room on my phone loool, no big deal".

@@MattViviani I do not think Jeanette, a girl who wanted Kate to like her so badly, a girl who desperately tried talking to Kate after her rescue to clear up allegations (that desperation did not seem born out of fear), would not go to the police if she saw her in that basement. She would have been Kate's hero and hopefully her friend. Besides, Kate said that she made eye contact with Jeanette while she was running away from Martin's house, but the placement of the basement windows would make that impossible unless Jeanette laid on the ground. Both girls have shown to be dishonest though when speaking to the police. Jeanette has lied about going to his house more than once, and Kate did not disclose that she went to his house willingly that night (I'm not excusing that she was still held captive and kidnapped internally & placed in the basement. She is 100% the victim here).
