I see Cruella’s rewrite story creates a sort of urban legend. She doesn’t care how she’s seen, so she wouldn’t say anything and let the ball roll with questions about her Dalmatian dress, accompanied with Rodger’s song. It still kinda works.

Honestly you’re right, I mean maybe if it gets a sequel she could eventually actually become the myth or more of try to become a puppy killer, but fails once the Dalmatians trumpet over her, but still it seems Cruella just doesn’t care whatever the public thinks about her, just those who are close to her(Horace and Jesper, oh and probably that dress shop keeper too since she needed his help for later in the film). I kinda had a theory that the reason she didn’t kill her mother’s Dalmatians was because of two reasons 1.She didn’t want Horace and Jesper to leave her side because they’re both dog lovers and even Horace gotten close to the Dalmatians. Or 2. She decided it wasn’t the Dalmatians fault her adoptive mother died because it was her real mother that cause them to rush over to attack her.

Fun fact: in the original book, Cruella had a cat, and instead of having the cat spayed, she'd just drown the litters of kittens. 8:46 Cruella and Anita had known each other since they were kids, and sometimes Cruella would turn up and act all spoiled and derisive, especially towards Anita's lowly musician husband Roger. He was simply exaggerating to make fun of how obnoxious she could be, and because he's a song writer: "in song form!" It's an old dynamic that we've seen a million times.

If Cruella was as big of a monster as you think she is, she would have killed the puppies herself. That's what my mother believes, and I could agree with her when looking back on this movie. Cruella isn't a remake in my opinion. It's a standalone story. A prequel to the original 101 Dalmations, if you will. I believe Disney Live-Action stories that don't copy an original story are good movies. I know this is rather unpopular, but I actually enjoy the first Alice in Wonderland Live Action movie. It's not about Alice as a child, but rather as an adult revisiting the world (unsure about the second, as I haven't seen it). Cruella is it's own standalone story and I honestly love it.

I think the issue that Cruela suffers with most is that it’s ideas feel like a contradiction of themselves. It wants to be its own thing and be separate from the original continuity, yet it constantly parades references and symbols of the original Dalmatians movie over and over again, and the ending would imply that it’s still part of the same type of universe as 101 Dalmatians, so which is it? It does seem like someone who started this did actually want to try, but the studio wanted all of these ties back to the original to nostalgia-bait the audience.

More so than making her a dog lover instead of a dog hater, I got the feeling that OG Cruella just...didn't care. animals were just things, she didn't love them or hate them, she just saw them as things. Which is kind of more villainous, at least compared to this movie, because the movie went out of its way to give her a dalmation related backstory. Before, she just didn't care about animals at all. I'm glad this movie was fun, because at least it sidesteps the crimes of a lot of the other live-action-re-somethings-of-OG-animated-movies in being fun, and making her the heartless monster she was originally probably wouldn't have been very fun, but them going out of their way to make her entire life revolve around dalmations was a bit too much, imo.

Me too. Not because they gave her a backstory, but because the backstort seemed too rushed. Like, her mom being knocked off a cliff by dalmations? That was the prologue, and all it did was make me wonder "why the hell didn't she run away?" I appreciate them having her embrqce her inner evil unlike they did with Maleficent, but even that comes with some problems. And the main problem I have is that... Estella is way too awesome to be the same Cruella from the animated movie or even the live action one. Cruella was either a graceless monster who got her car wrecked, or whom barn animals got the better of before driving her insane. Estella got the better of an aristocrat with her fashion and theatrics. I will not deny that the presentation is amazing in this movie, and it really comes back to the potential this movie would have as a standalone film without the convoluted twists dragging it down to Hell like... a DeVil, as it were.

Seeing Maleifcent as a child, I liked it for not being a really old Disney movie (I had something against the audio, don't ask). I thought it amazing, and a perfect Sleeping Beauty movie. And for a however year old kid, that was fine. I think it's an ok movie now, but I don't praise it as highly. Seeing Cruella as a teenager, I agree with the original character idea. I actually liked the less action and more dialog in this movie, and it was pretty refreshing to not have loud music and fight scenes every half hour. As a 101 Dalmatians prequel, it's just alright. As a movie on it's own, I think it's pretty great.

Its the only Disney live-action remake that actually feels like its adding something decent to the original story, which elevates it above all the other remakes. Still though, saying that this movie is better than the other live action remakes is like saying that an oven is cooler than an inferno.

In the post-credits scene, Cruella gives Pongo and Perdita to their respective owners, meaning that the puppies are the result of a brother and sister mating. This move would be even better if it wasn’t involved with 101 Dalmatians and was a standalone film based off an older character.

I dont think starkids Twisted is supposed to make us focus too much on character and stuff though. I mean its a starkid musical so I went into it focusing and enjoying their crazy ass comedy more. (Aladdin's double personality "twist" and the prince's tiger fucker bit is ICONIC). All the "character depth" stuff are just little extras i think. Cause it really is just "Jafar good aladdin/sultan/genie bad" and the bad guys were so out of this world its hillarious.

I'd argue that, out of the straight-forward remakes, Jungle Book and Pete's Dragon could be considered on-par if not better than the original. The only times where "fixing" the story is actually necessary, and not just lipservice for people who take CinemaSins too seriously.

I liked the Jungle Book remake better, they made Sher Khan more of a threat with him actually killing the wolf pack alpha and hunting Mowgli down. Instead of remaking the movie beat by beat with insignificant changes, they altered the movie to reflect the live action grit. The cgi blew me away when I first saw it, the actors and actresses did an amazing job, I liked it. One thing that could've made it better is if there were more themes of being human and how they are the most dangerous of Earth's creature. It would've been thematically and emotionally satisfying if Mowgli's arc of self-acceptance ended with him going to the village like in the original.

I feel like the one moment, the ONE moment that would have done Cruella herself, as a character some major justice. So she had those dogs in her apartment, and she had to get a necklace out of one of them. But she doesn't know which one. And then later in the film, we see her wearing a coat with a very... peculiar pattern on it. And just as we start to believe she's a dog murderer, we find out 'aw shoot, they faked us out and the dogs are still alive'. Personally, I think she should have for real murdered the Duchess' dogs. I think that alone could have nailed home the idea of 'this is Cruella De'Vill.' oh and also if she smoked.

I'm afraid I'm one of "those" people who hates the movie on a conceptual level. Turning an intimate love letter to dogs into a commercially driven fashion show is already kinda cynical. Bringing dogs in as even something related to murder (even if it isn't what motivates Cruella in the end) feels tasteless on a nearly existential level.

There is something I never understood about people complaining about the Disney remakes. If they're so similar to the originals, what makes them bad? If nothing is changed why is the older one good but not not the new one? Doesn't thay sort of betray the idea that these things were never good to begin with? Was it purely the animation where the older movies get their merit? Because the plots and scripts are basically copied and pasted from the originals, yet these are the biggest complaints people have. It makes no sense. Maybe Disney movies don't belong in the pop culture, because their merit exists only because of nostalgia, because all of their work is actually vapid and poor.

My biggest issue with this movie is....Solo effect they give Cruella. If it was just one thing, I could stand it. But it seems like she took every aspect of her character from somebody else or had no choice over. Her hair? She didn't choose it as part of her image/fashion sense - she was born with it. Her evil laugh? She saw it on TV. Fish net she had for her outfits in '90 version? Why, it's because she had a similar thing end up on her head when she was throwing away trash. Rich girl boss attitude? Why, she has it from Baroness...alto is it Cruella copying her or it being...another thing she has after Baroness because it was passed via DNA is anybody's guess... just nothing of her character came from Cruella herself...

Dr Doofenshmirtz: perry the platypus, you may be aware that the Disney company has been going through a trend of live action remakes of their animated classics. Particularly sympathetic takes on iconic villains such as maleficent and cruella DeVille. That inspired my latest scheme, I have enough tragic backstories for an entire cinematic universe! My life is a series of unfortunate events! (Winky winky) I already got the first movie started- the title was going to be "Heinz" but I was informed that is a brand of ketchup. So now we've got "the Doofenshmirtz Chronicles: I was a pre-teen lawn gnome". I got Sacha Baron Cohen playing me, and for my younger selves I got a couple of those Disney sitcom kids, you know the ones they grow in the test tubes? These films will make me so famous and beloved, I will rule the tri state area!! All that's left is to activate the live-action-reboot-inator! Hahahahaha!! Oh, wow....sorry perry, you don't look so great in cgi 8(

Now I know the other two are technically sequels and Cruella is a origin story to its own version of Cruella, but that doesn’t matter because from what I like from each of these movies were the setting, the music, and some moments in the movies whether it was emotional or funny.
