The movie was very well-made, as well as acted. It's like Emma Thompson carried a lot of it, so that Emma Stone could relax and shine. The two actresses knew their stuff. Emma Stone has those big eyes and wide smile, which is perfect for Disney. Originally, Walt Disney sketched simple creatures, like a mouse, and enlarged the eyes and mouth to make them more friendly and attractive looking. Emma Stone knows how to use her eyes.

I don’t like how Disney is trying to make their classic villains “Sympathetic” and deep because they missed the ponit why people liked them in the frist place. Cruella de Vil was ranked 39 out 50 on AFI’s greatest American film villains of all time,not becuse shes complex, but because she’s so uncomplex. Everyone loves the extreme lengths she’s going to kill those puppies and how crazy she is. It’s the same reason why pepole love yzma or why the wicked witch of the west is number 4 on that list, just pure cartoonish evil. My problem with this(and maleficent) is that they have to change recon and change so much of the story to fit there fake soulless message of girlpower that they might as well make it a new character or have no connection with the original. But it doesn’t matter people are going to pay watch this shit because “I KNOW WHAT THAT IS” and “Hate watching “

I don’t think I mind seeing this one be sympathetic, since this time it does look like it’s only sympathetic enough, and it’s not the thing where Maleficent, she’s turned completely into a good guy for some reason. You don’t need to even retcon the good guys’ story just for that.
@yeoldegaymer1906
@yeoldegaymer1906 3 жыл бұрын
Some of the best villains in literature, television, comics, and movies are the sympathetic ones. On the plus side no one is forcing you to watch the new take, and the original Cruella is still around for people and yourself to enjoy. Nothing wrong for creating something for an audience that wants something a little more complicated, no one is making you watch it and no one is erasing what came before. If you hate Disney, that's awesome, the nice thing is that everyone can like different things, and the world would be a damn boring place if every form of media was made to appeal to every single person on the planet. Not all media is made for you.

Plastic surgery, most probably, in the case of the most recent version. The hair origin is actually a bit of bigger flaw if t6ou think of it like this: Because if she had done her hair like that by choice that would actually support the story that she's this untapped fashion genius. Especially the way hair trends are now that would mean she was actually decades ahead of her time. It’s very obvious that they also won’t continue this by having her actually wanting to kill puppies later. This isn’t an origin story: it’s a reboot. Cruella isn’t going to try to kill puppies in the sequel, if there is one. She’s an anti-hero now. This is Maleficent all over again, except Cruella acts like a tone down Harley Quinn instead of being Cruella. Idk, the movie wasn’t bad but it’s really hard to separate it from the original and it’s jarring how they wanted to make the woman that wants to kill puppies for their fur seem sympathetic.

Sorry guys, I'm usually on board with ya'll but watching this review before seeing the movie made me realize the circle jerk of nostalgic people online hating it is overboard. Ya'll were at least fair given your feelings and didn't force yourself to not like it, but most came in thinking its pointless then didn't like it. Some of ya'll critic didn't fall the same for me such as length, it was 2 hours and yea they could shave off the beginning and a couple of steering scenes etc. but overall I could feel the A B C plot and never felt like I was at the ending in part B. It was all structured normally and as Korey said, blended well using music. To be on Martin's side, yeah the music can be hit or miss depending on how manipulative you think it is, since some equate fun music to oh that must mean I'm having fun...The music as Korey said, fit the tone well for me and was only used when necessary. As Korey said the hair thing and dogs etc. all seemed goofy if you thought about it too long but It was goofy in a charming way harkening back to it being a cartoonized world and not so serious, almost fairy tale like. I assure you they were going for that with all the silly ways people reacted to different events. Stuff like her personality switch were explained. She always had a dissociative personality, and it was a large theme spelled out in the movie down to her "SPLIT" hair. As a child she tried to be "NICE" like her good mother told her but her "BAD" side always came out. She embraced her bad side when she gets in trouble. By the 101 movie her bad side will take over completely.

I think they don't want to admit it, but they did let their love for 101 Dalmatians get in the way of reviewing this movie independently. Most of their arguments for not liking this movie are based on the 101 Dalmatians references that they didn't think were necessary. This movie should not be a rental. You guys gave Mulan a Rental and Cruella is way more memorable than Mulan, which was extremely unforgettable. Cruella at least had good performances in Emma Stone and Emma Thompson. Mulan had absolutely no memorable performances. This deserves at least a high rental to a low matinee by their standards. Everyone here is just saying how Disney is not original and how they keep making anti-hero movies from past villains, but everyone LOVES Joker. It's not technically original. It's not technically canon and is herald as a stand-alone movie. It's a reimagining of the character. Both stories are character pieces. Is Cruella as good as Joker? No, but i can't see how people can forgive Joker for not being "original material", but can't do the same for Cruella. Just hypocrisy.

Why didn't they just emphasize that Cruella came from a different time? Back in the day people didn't care about dogs as much. It was common practice to just put your pet dog down when on extended vacation because it was cheaper then finding someone to watch it. Also to kill off working dogs that weren't useful anymore. In that context, you can see how someone wouldn't give a shit about puppy lives over fashion careers. In her perspective they were just another animal like a mink or a rabbit. Jeez I came up with an idea of a Cruella film where it focuses on a group of temps, and Ella is in the group but she's a side character for most of it. It was more of a thriller concept where increasingly sinister things start happening, from vandalism of projects to people vanishing and the main character starts to suspect Ella, by the end they get evidence of her being responsible and tries to warn the boss but finds out to late that Cruella has taken over because the boss had "retired" and left her in charge resulting in a dark ending where the main character disappeared in the back of Jasper and horaces van and it's made clear they were taken care of. Leaving Cruella in charge and getting away with it Scott free and meeting her new assistant Anita, leading into the 101 dalmatian movie. Obviously there's a lot of detail I didn't add in that's just a brief description but still I came up with something that would actually show how ruthless, smart, cunning and downright evil Cruella is. I actually want to see the true malice of the VILLAIN Cruella Deville, not a anti hero come on embrace the villainy Disney!

The sound of the truck horn when Cruella honks at the jail is the same sound as her car horn in the animated feature. Horace compares dog owners looking like their dogs in the same way that Pongo does in 101 Dalmatians (1961). Emma Stone was not allowed to portray Cruella smoking as she had previously been since Disney had banned characters being shown smoking in its films since 2007. Despite being an English character, Cruella de Vil has never been played by an English actress. Every actress has been American with two exceptions. Victoria Smurfit who played De Vil in Once Upon a Time (2011) is Irish and Michelle Gomez who voiced De Vil on 101 Dalmatian Street (2018) is Scottish. Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, Emma Thompson, Julianne Moore, and Demi Moore were all in the running to play the role of Baroness von Hellman. Eventually, Thompson ended up taking the part of the Baroness. Like many subtle references in the movie to its original source material, young Cruella's blots on her permanent record resemble Dalmatian spots. The first film in the 101 Dalmatians series not to receive a G rating from the MPAA. The Baroness von Hellman played by Emma Thompson is a German title not a English title. Her character was inspired by the evil Baroness Galiana von Chatouiller from The Enchanted kingdom of Sir Thomas Tattletale (2017) The dog-loving Cruella DeVil is played by Emma Stone, who in the beginning of her acting career voiced a dog in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: Crushed (2006). This is the third live action adaptation from the 101 Dalmatians franchise, and the first to be a prequel. Emma Stone is only 5 years younger than her character's adopted mother (Emily Beecham) and 30 years younger than her character's birth mother (Emma Thompson). When Cruella reads her birth certificate, it reveals her birthday is August 7th 1952. Estella last name appears on an offer letter from Liberty. It was addressed to Estella Miller. This film marks Emma Stone's second time using a British accent, after The Favourite (2018).

Could have easily been a prequel to the live-action movies especially since they're portraying a YOUNG Cruella and the time setting is the 1960s which lines up perfectly from the other movies since you have a thirty year gap. She was like in her 50s in those other movies whereas Cruella is like in her 20s here? Yeah, so I'm not sure why they didn't go this route instead of pulling a BATMAN and just rebooting the timeline. Better yet, this could have been a sequel set many years later and this is Cruella's daughter and Emma Thompson's character could have been tweaked to be the older Cruella and they compete against each other.

I liked the movie, just wish it wasn't linked to Cruella. They took the sting out of her being a truly evil villain. Which has been Disney's thing over the years. 🤦🏾‍♀️😡 Make villains evil (not symptomatic) again! This would've been a great stand alone movie.

If Disney decides to give us a Lady Tremaine origin story, hopefully they will give it a good ending where Lady Tremaine lives happily ever after her royal lover a African king who is a single parent like her was two sons for her daughters. I'm not really getting my hopes up for a interracial Disney villain origin story with a happy redemption ending, is just that I don't want to constantly hear the same story. Like c'mon anyone would want a nice change-of-pace being a single parent living in a society & time where being a single parent as frowned upon, yes I did my NCIS research on Lady Tremaine because I see great potential in a fictional character that can be written in a different lighting.

True true, they forgot to dress as the Cruella sidekicks.

Thank god Emma Watson wasn't in this movie, the director would have to tear his/her hair out from confusing 3 Emmas

I once saw a dude with miscolored hair like Cruella... On his mustache! Some people really are born like that.

While these reimaginings of classic Disney villains as protagonists ended with mixed results, Japan blew Hollywood out of the park with the recent manga and anime series Moriarty the Patriot, which features Sherlock Holmes' iconic villain Professor Moriarty as the anti-hero protagonist who use his status as the Napoleon of Crime to combat the injustice of Victoria era UK's class system and that series is much more enjoyable than Disney's attempts.

"CRAZY WOMAN DRIVER" is easily the best line in any Disney movie.

The only villian I thought Cruella would go with was Captain Hook since her hatred of animals was just equal enough to his hatred of kids.

I’m excited to see this. It’s like fantasy true crime... she’s evil, but why is she evil? Doesn’t make her any less evil, just a cautionary tale
