Its an easy calculation: whippets are faster but make more mistakes, herders are mostly mistake free. If they loose the ball thats it.

Yes, the other team is by far faster, but there are rules and they committed errors that in this kind of race are very costly. First error, 1st dog did not run on the first round. Second error was on 2nd round, it happened on the 3rd dog crossing the start line before the 2nd dog cleared it making it a fault (a foul of some sorts) which in turn cost them the championship. Speed is very important, but they have to be error free.

If this sport got big enough where a large enough population of collies were breeded to select for more short-distance speed while maintianing other characteristics, we’d have a whippet fast collie! Just give it a couple decades! haha

I'm a fan of road runners, but the rule is the rule. It may feel like the other team does not deserve to win but they absolutely DO. Errors or faults cost the road runners the championship.
