Focus's last dog is considered one of the fastest collie but looked slow in the company of whippets. Congratulations to the Belgians. A small country doing amazing things.

It's just an off season. You should have seen the 2019 final with focus' Panic and ace's Hustle. Focus' last dog is definitely one of the fastest ever.

Interesting to see the huge increase in how many whippets and lurchers are on the teams these days. It was only a few years ago that the teams would be entirely Border Collies and I think they even had to make a rule where one dog on each team couldn't be a Border Collie. As I recall, one team brought a whippet in 2016 who absolutely nailed it, and the rest is history.

Seemed to start a few years ago when the winners had a whippet which the crowd loved and it seemed so much faster. I guess sighthounds like whippets are harder to train than collies but if you put the effort in it pays off.

Whippets, lurchers and greyhounds are probably a little bit easier to train, as they already have that high prey chase drive. Meaning if you tell them what they’ve got to chase, then theyre gonna get it. The speed that these 3 breeds can deliver in seconds is amazing and as a flyball dog, they’re what id say, is a teams best bet in winning.

A lot of these dogs are lurchers and whippets, breeds which were originally created to be very quick on their feet since their purpose was to chase small game rather than retrieve or track it by scent. They use their eyes as much as if not more than their noses which is why they're sometimes referred to as sight hounds or gaze hounds.

I enrolled my dog in a fly ball training course. We spent 4 out of 6 weeks learning how to turn on the box. The problem was they basically left us to ourselves while they worked with the intermediate group. I understand the importance of getting the technique down, but it was a complete waste of money and time. After 1hr each week with we both got tired of it. We never got past the box. I think my baby would have been good at flyball had we had proper attention and training.

Awe man, that sucks. Do you have a flyball club that practices near you? I don't know how common this is, but I just started going to practices with a team near me and it doesn't cost anything to attend. This probably varies from club to club, but at this club, you leave your dog either in the car or in the crating area, and when it's your turn, you bring them out and they work with you individually at whatever level you're at. The rest of the time you can watch everyone else work with their dog and ask questions. If you can find a club near you that will just let you come to practice that might be something to look into.

Roadrunners have spectacular timing on the crossovers. The dogs are fast, but they're virtually perfect on their crossovers.

Yes exactly, Aces did a cross-over, so they sent the next dog too early and they crossed before the line. Therefore the other team got the point for this round.

Hustle is a bitch, and she might be going through a post-season slump. I will say her not doing well is only in comparison to her stellar runs in past trials. Most people would kill for a dog who runs like her here!

Always amazed me when everyone used to use agile but slower border collies as opposed to more faster dogs like whippets....were they all idiots or something?... Now it's obviously whippets which will win this event each year...just goes to show those who think they know so much more than others often don't know very much at all. Go figure.

Because the average Border Collie is easier to train and has more drive than the average whippet. A lot of the "more faster dogs" are not pure whippet but crossed with Border Collie or other breeds to add in more drive and ease of training. I think whippets are becoming more common because people are realizing that even though it takes more work and it's harder to get a whippet to do something like this, it's worth the effort because they are fast. But still not everyone wants to do that.
