This video is about how we lost weight on a repositioning cruise taking the Celebrity Apex for 33 days, starting in Athens and finishing up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We share our methods of the Mediterranean Diet, intermittent fasting, and plenty of exercise that helped us actually lose weight on a cruise. Our past experiences on cruises have been overeating, drinking too much, gaining weight, and feeling miserable by end of the cruise. This time on the Celebrity Apex we changed things up and felt fantastic when we left the ship, lost weight, learned some new healthy habits and hopefully established some healthier ways to live going forward.

▶️ We started our channel to inspire and share our world travel lifestyle, adventures, and optimistic outlook on life with others. After completing a two-year journey in our Airstream to see all 50 states and 51 National Parks, we left to travel abroad. We have downsized our possessions and sold our home so that we can wander about with only the things in our backpacks.
We love living on the road, traveling each week to a new location. We plan to travel extensively to every part of the world. Ours is not a slow travel lifestyle but rather a vagabondish one. The goal is not to check a country off a list, but to experience it by meeting new people, seeing how others live, and making new friends. We believe in laughing, loving, and living our lives to the fullest.
We are working hard to build a beautiful website where you can get travel information about the places we have been. In addition, we post blog articles to help you travel better. Our channel is a way of augmenting that effort, so sometimes we post videos about how to travel or a vlog showing our lives on the road as we do an activity or an adventure. We also post Shorts, so check those out, too. We hope to entertain you, but most importantly, we want to inspire you and give you the confidence to plan your own adventure around the world.

Guys, I think the best advice you offered here is to not take the drink package and establish a healthy plan before you board the ship. I don't usually gain weight on a cruise, but I have never lost 7 pounds. Good for you Bev!

Another great video thanks guys! I have done a version of this before with a DIY yoga retreat. I went to Sydney, got a week’s pass to a studio and drank lots of green juices, smoothies and ate yummy salads - all bought locally. A fraction of the cost of an actual retreat, had my own schedule and I didn’t have to share a room!

Love your recent 'cruise diet' video. We have done many B2B cruises = 30+ days. We do not gain weight but neither do we lose. Our secret is NO elevators - only stairs + walk, walk and walk some more. And yes, avoid the heavy, rich in calories sauces and deep battered foods. Paul is a long distance runner so he needs premium beers to replace caloric burn😅 We love the Celebrity brand of cruise ships.

We do the same thing. Take the stairs go for walks and gym early in the morning.

Congratulations on your weight loss! We recently took a two week cruise. We never drink alcohol or soda, we’ve been Intermittent Fasting for three years, and we never take elevators. I still managed to gain 3 pounds.😅

My son and I did a cruise very similar to yours. 26 day back to back cruise, Turkey, Greece, Egypt, Rome, Spain, Portugal, Casablanca, and transatlantic. We were on the cruise for 26 days, land travel for eight. We did not diet at all and we lost weight as well. He lost seven, I lost 13 pounds. We both literally stuffed ourselves silly. I was so full even going into the next meal. I think it has a lot to do with being so active with all the excursions and walking around the huge boat. Also, the ships have food sources from Europe, which is much healthier than the US food sources. We did eat a lot in the Mediterranean style diet. Not so much breads or cheeses, and did not have much alcohol.

We will be on cruises for 212 days this year (our deferred 2021 WC is finally happening). We 1)only eat two meals a day, 2)NEVER go to the buffet except for the salad bar, 3)go to the gym every other day and walk at least 1.5-2miles on alternate days. We are not big drinkers but limit alcohol to 1 glass of wine at dinner OR a cocktail before dinner, never both. Long cruises require routine, in our experience. Good for you two!!!

Holy moly! $100 a night is a screaming deal, especially for a ship that looks as nice as that one. Very impressive results for the two of you with all that amazing food in your face every day. I'll think of you two when a bag of chips and tub of dip is beckoning me from my healthy plans.

I have never done a back to back cruise..I am interested in a repositioning cruise. I eat a plant based diet, and cruises have a great selection for us plant based folks. I did take the stairs every day as well. I never went to the gym, but didn’t gain any weight on my 10 day cruise. These are great ideas.

Fabulous. Inspiration for all of us, whether cruising or not. Since you've adopted a "travel full time" lifestyle, that is helpful in not perceiving going on a cruise (or trip) as a "special occasion". Since it is not a "special occasion" for you, you are not inclined to leave your good health routines at the dock. Clearly you set some goals, followed your plan, had success, doubled down and improved your results. However for many, such a trip is a "special occasion". And for those, that "special occasion" is perhaps their only chance to leave their routines and worries ashore. None the less, delightful, love your videos. Keep it up.

I do intermittent fasting as well. I have learned I need to take minerals in water in the morning when I am fasting, to keep myself healthy. Also BHB Exogenous Ketones will give your brain fuel and DOES NOT kick you out of fasting. But those can be crucial to ensure your brain gets ketones for fuel because in fasting your brain does not get glucose for fuel. These two "assists" for fasting have helped me feel good even when fasting.

Great job! I’m applauding. We have a different approach. We diet both before and after the cruise, and we eat and drink what we like, but mostly healthy, while on the cruise. It’s more fun that way! We are quickly back to our desired weight 2-3 weeks after the cruise ends. Even after a month long cruise.

Happy New Year John and Bev, I know it's counter intuitive to be cruising and not over indulging in food. I absolutely agree with everything you did on the cruise to keep weight off, it's mostly how we do it. We've just completed 25 days aboard a Princess cruise, we do 18/6 Int Fasting and maintained that pretty well on our cruise, used only stairs, walked everywhere, drank little alcohol but still ate more sweet than we'd normally do at home. Managed to put on a few pounds but still had a good time without "pigging out" or starving. It is hard to be disciplined because there's so much nice food to choose from, but we must stay strong, at our age, (70's) too much weight means limited mobility and we need to stay lighter to keep travelling. #Keep going.

I find I walk so much I seldom gain weight on a cruise. I don't drink alcohol and I limit sweets. It can be done. It's the people drinking all day and laying at the pool that puts the weion. Another tip is of you don't like something don't eat it. Also quit eating when full.

Congratulations on your weightloss during your cruise! In our everyday lives, we limit carbs and sugar, but find it very difficult to maintain those restrictions during a cruise. Desserts are our major downfall. I always start out 'good' for a couple of days, but then end up succumbing. ☹Our 2-week cruises end up adding 2 to 3 lbs., even though we get a lot of exercise. So, my hat is off to you guys!! Good job!

If you think about it, this idea could be more economical than going to a Spa! I would love to find a cruise(s) for about $30 a day to better fit my budget, unrealistic, I realize, But this could be a savings goal for me. Although pretty sure my first cruise I will not be dieting but rather gobbling up everything in sight. I pretty much decided that I would not be getting a drink package as that is way too much alcohol for me, so that could bring me closer to my Dailey expenditure goal. Love the ideas you give us. Thanks so much. Arranging was easy, we were booked on the Celebrity Apex to Israel and then planned on spending time in the Middle East. I agree. It is easy to lose weight on a cruise. I get so much more exercise on cruises than I do regularly. The fresh food is so available too. I've lost weight each time I go on cruises. I can't IF on there though. The food is just too good. Don't indulge and don't eat dessert just because it's available.

I’ve learned that cruise ship deserts usually don’t taste as good as they look. But I have to keep reminding myself, as they really are beautiful. Also, if I take one bite & find it only so-so, it’s hard to leave the rest (I was raised to not waste food).

What a great idea! Keep it up - especially giving up the diet soda. I lost 50 pounds in 2018 and giving up diet soda made a big difference. We are on a 30 day cruise in August/Sept so until then, I'm going to knock off 10 pounds so I can splurge on some desserts. Happy New Year!

Loved this video so much! I loved your approach. I was on a Princess Alaska cruise tour this past September and was actually able to lose 7 lbs myself-TONS of walking, choosing better foods. I did have some alcohol but not a lot and a few desserts but never a lot. Mostly water and milk for my main meals, and lots and lots of water in between meals. Zero sodas. Only a couple of specialty coffees. Since the cruise I’ve been incorporating intermittent fasting and that is helping me a lot. With fibromyalgia it really helps reduce the inflammation which in turn helps reduce pain levels.

Congratulations! That’s impressive. I’ve only been on one cruise and gained 10 pounds in one week! I couldn’t resist the dessert buffet. That was with no alcohol. Your lifestyle is impressive. Wowza… you two are SO inspirational! Good for you! I went to an all inclusive resort in Cancun last month for my 65th birthday and I did my best to eat healthy which really wasn’t that hard. You’ve inspired me to take a one month pause in a couple of items I’ve started to get impulsive with: chips and beer or hard cider. You’ve shown that one can do without something for 33 days and survive just fine. Plus add a vigorous walk each day. Thanks again.

I loved the Apex. Plenty of options foodwise so a great ship for spa type eating. The jogging track was one of the best I have used on any ship.

If I'm going to have dessert I don't skip the sugar. The sugar free usually are more calories than the good stuff. I do limit my Diet Coke to 2 to 3 a day then water.

Alcoholic drinks are big diet busters. Same with soda. So if you eliminate or at least limit your intake you’re bound to lose some weight. Drink lots of water. If you need to dial it up, add lemon or some other squeeze of citrus straight from the fruit.

Good for you both - helps that you were in it together and could support each other! Congrats on the weight loss! I have a 14 day cruise next Nov and this sounds like what I'm planning to do. I decided that with so many sea days, I needed to go in with a routine/plan as far as food goes. I gave up drinking about 20 yrs ago so that part is easy, and if I skip the elevators and do something in the gym everyday, I should at least break even! :)

Thanks so much for following along with us. We use a BCBS US-based health insurance because if we ever get something serious we want to be treated in the US near our children. We do preventative care overseas and just pay out of pocket. It is SO much cheaper than the United States. We are age 60, so plan to do this until Medicare in 5 years. I never gain weight in any vacation: land or sea. I work out in the fitness facility, always take the stairs and eat small healthy portions of food. No alcohol, ever. The vast majority of people on a cruise do none of those things and are mostly extremely overweight and always take the elevators. My lifestyle is continuous.

Did you book your cruises yourselves online, or do you have a travel agent? I've heard an agent can get you better rates (or or at least get you some onboard credits), and they may have access to cabins that aren't offered on the cruise's website.

Good question! We make it work. We just have no other option. Bev packs a black travel dress and pairs it with Rothy's flats. John has a golf shirt and golf pants that he packs. Since we have a limited wardrobe, we skip the dress-up night in the dining room. We were fine with that since we ate better at the buffet with so many healthy food options. Hi guys, small question, you mentioned you managed $100 per night or less? I’m going to assume that’s per person. Incidentally I was on that cruise from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale and I had an inside cabin with all included, but I was nowhere near the $100 per night pp .. how did you get such a low rate? Did you book directly? Long time ahead? What’s your secret? PS I also tried booking without the drinks package, with only tips and internet (themselves add up quickly) and again was nowhere near $100pppn .. thanks in advance
